Ranger Financial filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy 1/18/12 in the Northern District of TX, Case# 12-30347.  If you are a client of theirs, I would strongly recommend sending them a certified cease and desist letter, terminating your relationship and demanding that they immediately cease working any accounts on your behalf.  Make sure that the letter does not demand that they pay you what they owe you for collecting on accounts, as that would be a violation of the automatic stay imposed upon the bankruptcy filing.  If they do owe you money for accounts they have collected on your behalf, be sure to file a proof of claim in the bankruptcy court.

I was paid 9,500.00 on a 15,400.00 account......I was getting worried at first only because I had to wait 45 days until RANGER  sent me my check.   They upset me at first because my debtor was telling RANGER he already paid me and that I was making a deal behide their backs.  I promised them that was all lies and thankfuly they ended up collecting one of the accounts I place with them.  Of you complaining out there should know the business world is not all fun and games.  If you need a tough collection agency I think they are all thats left out there.

I got a call on my answering machine from a man who called himself David Solomon and he said it was a "courtesy call".  He said he had already contacted my bank, my mortgage company and my landlord...how does he know ANYTHING about me??? This is all about a bill I keep receiving for something I never ordered let alone ever billed for before. He also told me that I need to contact John Andrews at 214-666-2064 to try to reduce my debt by thousands before it goes before a judge next Wednesday!!! I looked up this number and came to this site. I am thankful and relieved that it is nothing to worry about. I am an upstanding citizen who pays bills on time and had I been billed for something I would have paid it! I would never let something go for 10 years if I were billed....shifty people.

I am a business owner in California, who was called by Ranger and given the speil that they could get money out of a deadbeat customer of mine, a Solar Energy contractor in Simi Valley, CA. They owed me $4770 and it had bee about 8 months since they stopped making any payments to me. Jeff from Ranger explained they would take 33% of what they collected but they would collect it within 7 days. I was getting NO WHERE with my efforts, so I said what the heck, I'm getting nothing now. So I signed up with Ranger. It wasn't even 7 HOURS before the Contractor called me and said they were sending a check for $2000!! We will be getting it all thanks to Ranger. Are they agressive? I am sure they are. Do I care? No I don't as far as I am concerned, I was being ROBBED by that customer, as surely as if they stuck a gun in my back at the ATM. It's the same thing! I'm sorry if deadbeats think its just fine to steal from people they owe money too, but they do, and it takes aggressive tactics to get them to pay. This was one unsolicited sales call I'm glad I answered. If someone owes you money, call Ranger. Maybe this isn't the forum for this kind of report, but you came up in Google and I just really like these guys and what they did for my business and therefore my family.

Debt Collector
So here's what happened to us with these clowns from Ranger Debt Recovery...

First of all I want to say these people are just plain rude, ruthless, and sick.

We are a small family owned business.  These people from "Ranger Debt Recovery" have been calling us repeatedly for weeks, trying to solicit their "services".  And repeatedly we very kindly told them that we did not need nor was interested in what they had to offer.  Yet they proceeded to continue calling anyway.

This morning (12/22/09) my Grandfather suddenly passed away.  Ten minutes after the phone call we received about this, our "good friends" at Ranger decided to make another undesired check call with us, for the umpteenth time.  Bad timing?  Absolutely.  Was we rude to them?  Certainly not.  We politely told them again (for the umpteenth time) that we were still not interested in their "services" and hung up.  They called right back, and stated that we must give them time to hear their pitch.  Again we told them we were not interested, and even told them we were just advised of a death in our family and today was not a good day for this harassment.  The man laughed and said "I don't care, the calls will keep coming!", and he hung up.  Within a short time of hanging up from him (again), all of a sudden our telephone switchboard lit up.  We started receiving phone calls from all over the country, from all kinds of different people from businesses we've never heard of, stating they were returning our phone call.  Evidently these clowns at Ranger decided it would be funny to prank phone call people pretending to be us so we would get flooded with return calls.  And of course when the phone rings we have to answer it regardless of the number that shows up on the caller ID, since our business is primarily done over the phone and we can't tell if was an actual customer of ours or another prank return call.  This went on for hours today, and as you can imagine it wasn't appreciated by us nor the pranked party on the other end of the line.  Mildly amusing perhaps, if you are into that sort of thing, but very poor timing.

Of course my first thoughts about all this were anger, frustration, revenge, etc...  But as the day went by, I looked into my heart and decided that I felt sorry for these people at Ranger.  How sad, pathetic, and meaningless their lives must be to get their rocks off by doing this type of thing to us, and by the looks of this blog, to other people as well.  I am guessing these people probably have some sort of family lives.  Whether it be a wife, kids, parents, grandparents, etc.; I can't imagine they would appreciate something like this happening to themselves or any of their family, if the shoe was on the other foot.  I guess it just gets back to the Golden Rule.  For those of you at Ranger that do not know what this is, let me tell you.  The Golden Rule is "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."  Now I can see someone without values and morals pulling a prank such as this.  Careless teenagers, mindless idiots, drunken fools, ignorant sociopaths; but businessmen who call themselves a company with a type of service?  Wow, what is this world coming to?  I will include the folks employed by Ranger in my prayers, and their families.  May God have mercy on your souls come Judgement Day.

From Federal Trade Commission Website ? FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ACT
Debt Collection FAQs: A Guide for Consumers
If you?re behind in paying your bills, or a creditor?s records mistakenly make it appear that you are, a debt collector may be contacting you.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation?s consumer protection agency, enforces the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), which prohibits debt collectors from using abusive, unfair, or deceptive practices to collect from you.
Under the FDCPA, a debt collector is someone who regularly collects debts owed to others. This includes collection agencies, lawyers who collect debts on a regular basis, and companies that buy delinquent debts and then try to collect them.
Here are some questions and answers about your rights under the Act.

What types of debts are covered?
The Act covers personal, family, and household debts, including money you owe on a personal credit card account, an auto loan, a medical bill, and your mortgage. The FDCPA doesn?t cover debts you incurred to run a business.

Can a debt collector contact me any time or any place?
No. A debt collector may not contact you at inconvenient times or places, such as before 8 in the morning or after 9 at night, unless you agree to it. And collectors may not contact you at work if they?re told (orally or in writing) that you?re not allowed to get calls there.

How can I stop a debt collector from contacting me?
If a collector contacts you about a debt, you may want to talk to them at least once to see if you can resolve the matter ? even if you don?t think you owe the debt, can?t repay it immediately, or think that the collector is contacting you by mistake. If you decide after contacting the debt collector that you don?t want the collector to contact you again, tell the collector ? in writing ? to stop contacting you. Here?s how to do that:
Make a copy of your letter. Send the original by certified mail, and pay for a ?return receipt? so you?ll be able to document what the collector received. Once the collector receives your letter, they may not contact you again, with two exceptions: a collector can contact you to tell you there will be no further contact or to let you know that they or the creditor intend to take a specific action, like filing a lawsuit. Sending such a letter to a debt collector you owe money to does not get rid of the debt, but it should stop the contact. The creditor or the debt collector still can sue you to collect the debt.

Can a debt collector contact anyone else about my debt?
If an attorney is representing you about the debt, the debt collector must contact the attorney, rather than you. If you don?t have an attorney, a collector may contact other people ? but only to find out your address, your home phone number, and where you work. Collectors usually are prohibited from contacting third parties more than once. Other than to obtain this location information about you, a debt collector generally is not permitted to discuss your debt with anyone other than you, your spouse, or your attorney.

What does the debt collector have to tell me about the debt?
Every collector must send you a written ?validation notice? telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don?t think you owe the money.

Can a debt collector keep contacting me if I don?t think I owe any money?
If you send the debt collector a letter stating that you don?t owe any or all of the money, or asking for verification of the debt, that collector must stop contacting you. You have to send that letter within 30 days after you receive the validation notice. But a collector can begin contacting you again if it sends you written verification of the debt, like a copy of a bill for the amount you owe.

What practices are off limits for debt collectors?
Harassment. Debt collectors may not harass, oppress, or abuse you or any third parties they contact. For example, they may not:
    use threats of violence or harm;
    publish a list of names of people who refuse to pay their debts (but they can give this information to the credit reporting companies);
    use obscene or profane language; or
    repeatedly use the phone to annoy someone.

False statements. Debt collectors may not lie when they are trying to collect a debt. For example, they may not:
    falsely claim that they are attorneys or government representatives;
    falsely claim that you have committed a crime;
    falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit reporting company;
    misrepresent the amount you owe;
    indicate that papers they send you are legal forms if they aren?t; or
    indicate that papers they send to you aren?t legal forms if they are.

Debt collectors also are prohibited from saying that:
    you will be arrested if you don?t pay your debt;
    they?ll seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages unless they are permitted by law to take the action and intend to do so; or
    legal action will be taken against you, if doing so would be illegal or if they don?t intend to take the action.

Debt collectors may not:
    give false credit information about you to anyone, including a credit reporting company;
    send you anything that looks like an official document from a court or government agency if it isn?t; or
    use a false company name.

Unfair practices. Debt collectors may not engage in unfair practices when they try to collect a debt. For example, they may not:
    try to collect any interest, fee, or other charge on top of the amount you owe unless the contract that created your debt ? or your state law ? allows the charge;
    deposit a post-dated check early;
    take or threaten to take your property unless it can be done legally; or
    contact you by postcard.

Can I control which debts my payments apply to?
Yes. If a debt collector is trying to collect more than one debt from you, the collector must apply any payment you make to the debt you select. Equally important, a debt collector may not apply a payment to a debt you don?t think you owe.

Can a debt collector garnish my bank account or my wages?
If you don?t pay a debt, a creditor or its debt collector generally can sue you to collect. If they win, the court will enter a judgment against you. The judgment states the amount of money you owe, and allows the creditor or collector to get a garnishment order against you, directing a third party, like your bank, to turn over funds from your account to pay the debt.
Wage garnishment happens when your employer withholds part of your compensation to pay your debts. Your wages usually can be garnished only as the result of a court order. Don?t ignore a lawsuit summons. If you do, you lose the opportunity to fight a wage garnishment.

Can federal benefits be garnished?
Many federal benefits are exempt from garnishment, including:
    Social Security Benefits
    Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Benefits
    Veterans? Benefits
    Civil Service and Federal Retirement and Disability Benefits
    Service Members? Pay
    Military Annuities and Survivors? Benefits
    Student Assistance
    Railroad Retirement Benefits
    Merchant Seamen Wages
    Longshoremen?s and Harbor Workers? Death and Disability Benefits
    Foreign Service Retirement and Disability Benefits
    Compensation for Injury, Death, or Detention of Employees of U.S. Contractors Outside the U.S.
    Federal Emergency Management Agency Federal Disaster Assistance
But federal benefits may be garnished under certain circumstances, including to pay delinquent taxes, alimony, child support, or student loans.

Do I have any recourse if I think a debt collector has violated the law?
You have the right to sue a collector in a state or federal court within one year from the date the law was violated. If you win, the judge can require the collector to pay you for any damages you can prove you suffered because of the illegal collection practices, like lost wages and medical bills. The judge can require the debt collector to pay you up to $1,000, even if you can?t prove that you suffered actual damages. You also can be reimbursed for your attorney?s fees and court costs. A group of people also may sue a debt collector as part of a class action lawsuit and recover money for damages up to $500,000, or one percent of the collector?s net worth, whichever amount is lower. Even if a debt collector violates the FDCPA in trying to collect a debt, the debt does not go away if you owe it.

What should I do if a debt collector sues me?
If a debt collector files a lawsuit against you to collect a debt, respond to the lawsuit, either personally or through your lawyer, by the date specified in the court papers to preserve your rights.

Where do I report a debt collector for an alleged violation?
Report any problems you have with a debt collector to your state Attorney General?s office (www.naag.org) and the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov). Many states have their own debt collection laws that are different from the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Your Attorney General?s office can help you determine your rights under your state?s law.

I received calls from these guys. I told them I disputed the debt because the contractor I hired never got permits, did the work imporoperly, and did not complete the job. The contractor would not return my emails. He just got angry because I hired others to fix his mistakes. I filed a complaint against the contractor in my state. He knew he had no legal case against me. He never even gave me an itemized invoice. He just sicked these guys on me. They called my business over and over. I would hang up, and they would call right back. They hastled my employee and called him names. They are crude and rude....very. They called a neighboring business and pressured her into calling me. My lawyer is now having me send their information to him. I'm letting him take it from here. They call us crooks. They are the crooks! Why doesn't Texas Attorney General shut them down?

October 2009    Ranger Financial Services B2B    Richardson, TX  I got out of the car business in December. Went to work for this company for a very short period of time. My red flags were numerous on how they operated. the script was what they held their standard to. When you did get a company on the phone and identified an outstanding debt, you went down what they called a pain funnel. A code 14 was false information on the company about their credit and who else they owed. The pitch goes until the customer either gives in or they hang up. Then I noticed they did not pay the companies in which they collected for. Ted Johnson is really Mark Wolff. All built on lies and bullying. It's 3 months of my life I will never get back. Also, they run off of a very short cash flow. The blogs are numerous on these guys
