called and hung up

I received a call and a recorded message identified me by name and asked me to press 1 if that was correct.  Then it told me my name was being used as a reference and if I new Joe something to press 2.  It was all pre-recorded so I could not understand the last name. I have a really bad feeling about that call.

Got a call from this number and went through the menu and it is suppose to be a car finance company of some sorts.  Could never get a live person on the phone.

The same thing happened to me this morning...I called the number back and they couldn't seem to find my name or number...which is odd since they called me and asked for me by name.  I do not have an auto loan, and I have not co-signed for an auto loan ever!  The woman I spoke to wasn't that pleasant but said she would sen my inquiry to "research" whatever that means.  This is stupid.

I gave info on how to block a call if you have comcast, but gave the info backwards. Here is the correct way .......  (star) *60 turns on call screening then follow the prompts. It will say to reject the last call by pressing the number sign key then the #1 then the number sign key again, or if it's not the last call you can enter that number by pressing the # sign key and then put the number in that you want to block.

The numbers this "Drive Financial" calls from is as follows: 888-222-4227 (which is the # I called) and it said if you are calling about a car repossession, or total loss please press, blah blah blah. It also mentioned Sovreign Bank. Live person came on and asked for ss#, account number, or id number. To which I said NO bc I don't have an account and wanted to know why they were calling.  I have no open accounts with any creditors at all, and my car has been paid off for 2 years! She then asked if I was calling from the number I received the phone call from and I said yes.... she then said it must be a mistake bc she doesn't have that number on file. Hmm then how did they DIAL my number? I wasn't nice and even threatened them with legal action if they called again. Here are some more #s they call from ..... 214-634-1110 .....214-237-3652 .....(214-540-2028.....was on phone for 8 min. spoke to someone who said they are an underwriting company for car loans, and that someone must have used my number as a reference. She was very polite and I asked her how I can get my number off the list, she said I would need the name of the person, a ss# or account #.)  214-905-7569 ......no answer. I got two same answers from the two different numbers I dialed. She said they are in Dallas TX. I gave her the address and info I had and she said that was correct. I am now going to write a letter and send it receipt requested to have them get my number off their list. I told her they called me at 8:15 this morning and she said 3 this morning, to which I replied NO 8:15 then I said if it were 3 am I wouldn't be as nice as I am right now. So I suggest if you get any more phone calls to block the number. If you have comcast phone service as I do, you can block it by pressing #01# to activate call screening press (star) * 60 then follow prompts. I hope this helps anyone else who was or is bothered by this.

Got a call by this number this morning and let it go to vm.  Checked message later and got the last half of the message which was in spanish.  I however dont speak spanish.  When i called the number back the message said that the company was called Sontondair (not sure of that spelling but that is what it sounded like) and it was a debt collecting company. Press 1 for english so I did then it asked me for my account number or ss#.  I hung up at that point.  Not sure way the call.  I have no debt.

Yea, It's just a reference check for someone who just purchased a vehicle, this one was thru CarMAX

I just got this call today as well.  Didn't answer but when I came across this thread I Found out I was put down as a refernce on a ridiculously high intrest car loan a family member went out and got thru carmax. Funny how they call for a refernce after they already got the car?

The automated recording when you call back states that it is an attempt to collect a debt. I hung up.

Dont know if this helps, but I too got the call from this number this morning.  Did not answer, but after googling the number found this thread.  Makes sense, I had a friend who applied for a car loan from car max 2 days ago and used me for reference, so that does go along with what people are saying.

This phone number called my cell phone, but I was unable to answer the call, when I called back it said the name of some company, I couldnt understand it, then asked to press 1 for English, so I did and it asked for my account number or social security #. I dont knwo where that call s coming from so I just hung up!

This is (corp. name) Santander Consumer USA, an auto financing company in Dallas, TX, also known as Drive Financial.  888-222-4227 is the correct number.  You need to send a written request to be removed from their phone system.   She claimed I might have been used as a reference for a loan (highly unlikely w/out my knowing the person would do it).  address:  p.o.box 562088, Callas, TX  75247.

yea same thing happened to me.
identified me by my name and asked if correct to press 1, if not correct press2. i hit 1, then asked me to continue in spanish or english, i hit 1 for english then it hung up. that was a very odd and uncomfortable call

after reading previous post - my friend also bought a car yesterday and used me as a reference!!!!

I just call a call from this number in Spanish.    Not sure either what this is about but am wary.

I too received a call and a pre-recorded/electronic message AT WORK that identified me by name and asked me to press 1 if that was correct, 2 if incorrect.  It was correct, but I hit 2 and hung up.

Received phone call from 1 214-237-3567, it was a recording - don't know who they are or what they want.

Got this call this morning and have never seen # before today.. Don't answer.. I'm sure it's a prank or telemarketing or a scam.. Do yourself a favor and hit ignore just in case.. I would..
