When someone starts talking over your,  hang up immediately as they talk.   Faxes are not proof of anything,  and a letter in writing that is not certified proves nothing.  That's why they ignore them.

Ms York is not a supervisor and she is rude and disrespectful. She is no diffrent then the others I was not rude to her I did not yell or curse at her no matter how much I wanted to. She refused to take my name of her list even though I have sent proof several times by fax email and written mail I do not owe money to anyone. She talked over me when I was trying to explain to her and they have refused to send verification to me that I owe money.

This "collection company" told me I had an outstanding bill for an electric company I have NEVER used.
I called the electric company they claimed I had an account with and they confirmed that it is a scam.
I called  Pro Collect, as they call themselves, and told them I contacted the electric company and they confirmed I NEVER had an account with them. They still tried to confirm they had the correct information and began asking me for my social and phone #. I refused. They put me on hold and call was disconnected. I called back. Someone else took the call and claimed to be the manager and then said they had the wrong person. SCAM!!  I supposedly spoke to Ms. Vaughn.  BEWARE OF THESE SCAMMERS!

Pro-Collect called my dad and left a message wanting information about how to get in touch with me. I called them back immediately, because I had sent them a letter seven months ago disputing the debt that I owed. They tried telling me that I owed $709 to an apartment complex that I haven't lived in in almost two years, and that the debt was for the condition the apartment was left in. I told them again that I never once received a bill from the apartment complex, even though I left all of my forwarding information with them when I gave them my 30 day notice in writing. I told them that I refused to pay the debt because I do not believe it is valid. The lady wasn't as rude as I expected her to be after reading the comments, but she was threatening. She told me that the debt had to be paid by the end of the month in order for it to come off of my credit report. I repeated that I had no intention of paying, and she said, "Well, it has to be paid by the end of this month." And then hung up. These people really irk me.
I just called Pro Collect back!

Debt Collector
I have been getting calls from Pro Collect for weeks now, and just a few minutes ago again they called, and instead of telling them what I always tell them, which is there is no such person living here, I asked to speak to a Supervisor. The incredibly rude black woman on the phone said "No, you do not need to speak to my supervisor" and I repeatedly asked her for a supervisor until she hung up on me.

I then called them back on the number on my caller ID, 214-341-7788, and asked for a Supervisor. I was connected to a Ms. York and told her what happened. She apologized for my rude treatment, asked for my home phone, and then looked my number up. I also told her the name of the person they keep asking for, and at that point she said "I have just erased your number from our system, so you won't receive any more calls from us. If you have any more problems please call back and ask to speak to me, Ms. York."

So I would suggest everyone call this number and ask for a supervisor, tell them the problem, and for them to remove your number from their list. Hopefully Ms. York really did erase my number, but only time will tell, since I have asked their regular reps to remove my number but they never did. Good luck to everyone, and try what I did to see if it helps. Don't be rude when you call and ask for a supervisor, just stay calm & be nice so they pay attention to you.

I received a letter in the mail today stating that, "As you know, the above referenced account has been referred to us for collection."  No!  I don't know!  After going over the letter, the bill they are trying to collect was, first of all, was from like 2002 (10 years ago)(believe the statute has run on that one) and second of all, was included in a chapter 13 Bankruptcy which they can no longer collect on since that was finalized in 2010.  I called to let them know all of the above and was told that they have had this debt since 2005, again that was when the Bankruptcy was filed and the Apartment complex was notified but did not respond. (too bad so sad for them).  This JERK on the other end proceeded to tell me that they were still collecting since THEY were never notified of the Bankruptcy.  THEY WEREN'T NOTIFIED!  Well Who THE HELL are they?  Told him too bad, was in the Bankruptcy and the statute had run also and they were getting nothing so they needed to notify whomever and let them know.  He said FINE and hung up.  Sick of people trying to scam others out of their money.  Something needs to be done about these kind of businesses being allowed to stay open and harass hard working people.

These jerks call me EVERY SINGLE DAY. I don't bother picking up; they're very rude and in-your-face, and they don't seem to understand that I am a junior in college AND a divorcee with four very small children, and that those two things together don't equal having $9,800 to pay for spending a few hours in the emergency room one afternoon last year. I'm always polite to them, but when they demand payment, I simply ask, "How am I supposed to give you money I don't have?" I pay my own rent, my own electricity, water, phone, gas, etc., but medical bills are exorbitant and completely unaffordable, and I don't have anything left at the end of the month to put toward repayment, or I would give it. I suppose it's terrible of me to not repay my debt, but what else can I do, realistically? I understand they're trying to do their job, but they don't have to be so psychotic about it. It's like they only hire mental patients or something.

For years I have been dealing with this company. I have received multiple calls from them despite 6 written request for cease and desist. I also have never received any itemized bills despite requesting one every time they called plus with all 6 cease and desist requests.  Every time I tell them they are violation the fair debt collection act they put you on hold as a "cooling off period" even though you have never raised your voice or used language. If you tell them you want something in writing they will either promise to send it and then never do so or they will tell you that they are marking your account as refusal to pay and seeking further action.  I advise to look at your state laws for recording calls and keep everything. Also do not be fooled into paying them directly.  You have the right to work with the original creditor and make payments to them.  If some of the companies that hired them heard what they are doing maybe they might drop them (however unlikely) I am a firm believer in paying what you owe but no company has the right to harass you. Situations occur in life that may catch you unaware and alot of companies understand that if you make a good faith attempt to correct the problem. NEVER work with a debt collector if at any time they harass, make threats, belittle, or contact anyone not covered under the law about your debt. Always request validation of debt immediately in certified letter to make sure the company has the right to collect. If they dont respond they are hiding something. Call the original creditor.

Got a call from this number and they left a voice mail. Something about how some person I've never even heard of has used me as a reference and that they are collecting from that person. I was going to call them back to let them know they got the wrong number, but I'm glad I did not because based on the comments on here - it seems that they interpret your speaking to them as taking responsibility for some debt that's got nothing to do with you.

These people called me first on my house number (which i haven't had more than a month and a half) and then turned around and called my cell phone not a minute after leaving the message. A Ms Davis called me and sounded like she had the phone right on her mouth. I find this wierd, especially since she called on a new number.

Procollect called me trying to collect on an alleged debt from 2006. The lady on the phone Ms. Clifton was really rude & screamed at me when I asked for proof & said that just by talking on the phone to her was proof that the debt had to be paid. These people are scammers & will consciously violate the FDCPA without a second thought. I'm mailing them a certified letter telling them that the Statute of Limitations in Texas is 4 years & that it has expired. Don't deal with these pigs over the phone, they will talk over you & disrespect you every chance they get!

The associates are very rude... I called to speak with someone to get an understanding about what was going on because I had no idea what they were talking about. The associate there yelled at me and reported on my account that I refused to pay and slammed the phone down in my ear because I asked to speak with a supervisor. I spoke with this associate very professional... I am human just like they are and I have to say I honestly didn't deserve that. I was trying to discuss the matter and make the arrangment to make the payment. That associate didn't have to treat me like that.

This company called me about a year ago about alleged damage to an apartment that i hadn't lived in for a year before that.  The debt was obviously bogus so i got a lawyer and have been sending letters back and forth between them and the credit agencies.  They're pretty relentless. This has been going on for about three years now, even though they were unable to produce any sort of evidence to validate the supposed debt. I've found the best thing to do is to hang up. They don't respond to reason or logic.

Send them a cease communication letter VIA certified mail with return receipt requested. If they continue calling after you have proof they have received it, you can sue them for FDCPA and TCPA violations:

Under the TCPA, a consumer has a right to file a lawsuit and recover $500 for each call that violates the TCPA. The TCPA can also be used in conjunction with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in some situations.

Generally, the TCPA does not apply to debt collectors making collection calls to debtors. However, if you are subjected to calls from a debt collector and you are not the debtor, you may file a lawsuit against the debt collector under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the TCPA.

This right was recently recognized by Judge Legrome D. Davis in a case called Watson v. NCO Group, Inc.  NCO Group is a debt collector that uses automated prerecorded collection calls.  In this case, Mr. Watson alleged he was getting hundreds of calls from NCO Group after he got a new phone number. Mr. Watson claimed he owed no debt to NCO Group, Inc.  Mr. Watson filed suit under both the FDCPA and TCPA.

David Israel, defense lawyer for NCO, argued that the TCPA should not apply to debt collectors.  Judge Davis rejected the argument made by David Israel. The judge ruled that Mr. Watson had a right to sue NCO Group Inc under the TCPA for $500 for each call.  Judge Davis wrote;

[The] Court is convinced that a non-debtor's rights are in fact violated when he is subjected to repeated annoying and abusive debt collection calls that he remains powerless to stop.

Judge Davis' ruling was based upon his interpretation that collection calls to non-debtors violate the privacy rights provided by the TCPA.

So what can you do if you receive "wrong number" calls from debt collectors?

1. Sign up for the Do-Not-Call registry.
2. Save the calls captured by your voice mail or answering machine.
3. Contact a consumer lawyer.
