Just answered a call from this number (as I'm also in 214 area code).  They knew my car make and model and my name.  Said they noticed I did not extend the warranty on it.  I stopped him immediately and told him that I was on do not call list and it was an unsolicited call.  He immediately hung up.  Who is this company and WHY do they call with information like that?  Don't you think if I wanted an extended warranty I would've already purchased one?  Scary that they know your car and personal information....wonder who is giving this information out for free?  At any rate, they are now blocked on my phone...

Nothing is wrong with fishing for business.  There are many moraly ligitimate ways to do it, sounds like you used a few.  But you shoud not do it by misleading people into thinking the card or call is legal, urgent or vitally important.

Sorry but marketing is not a crime people. I do not understand how this is all getting so out of control. I moved to FW and bought a new home and started my company and I had to market and guess what I did we printed up flyers to have people call in and we pushed products to them. It is great business is booming and people want products they just have to be talked into it. This is also a good thing for the economy as well to build revenue .

Sir,
First of all I feel you have too much time on your hands. I just recently moved to TX and started my business. In order to get clientele I have to advertise and how did I do that you ask. I hired 3 guys to hand out flyers for the company at home at the mall every where I could think of. Was that wrong of me to do? Should I have just opened up and WAITED for people to walk it the door? I DO NOT THINK SO!!

Rat Bats! I called these people, gave em my confirmation number, and asked them to identify themselves and what their company does for a business. They wouldn't answer me nut instead kept asking me if I was who I was by last name. I reminded them that I called them and asked what kind of company they were. They repeated asked me if I was the name attached to the confirmation ID. I asked to speak to someone who could explain why they had physically been on my property. They told me they would have a supervisor call me back - Ha! Apparently, the phone girl was not even qualified to explain that. I plan on calling them something like 5 times a day to explain what I had for breakfast until they quit answering my calls. And perhaps I will set a trap

I just got a call from these people. I didn't answer the phone, even though it was local, and I didn't know the number. I love this site for calling these scammers/potential thieves out.

Hi Ginger,

When I asked him who he was and what it was about he just said  "he didn't know" and walked away. This smells like a scam to me!!!

I bought a house between two private parties and found the note on my door 3 days later, they are fast.
I dont' think it's a burglary scam since it seems to be happening over several states, just deceptive marketers.  It's amazing how they got my info so fast and also there must be a huge profit margin since they have people drive around and hand deliver the notice, I received a postcard quality print on my front door, not the flyer quality someone mentioned in a previous post.
Also believe the reason for the conformation number is so they know you've responded to their ploy,  since they already have your name and address.
Feel sorry for the people who bought property on forms that contain their full name, phone number E-mail and more.

I also got a note on my door from nuhomeowner.com GeoTrek when I moved into my home in Richardson TX. When I called to check on it they wouldn't tell me what it was about and kept asking me for personal information. Soon after I started receiving telemarketing calls on the phone I called them with. DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER ON THE GeoTrek TICKET.

I got two cards today, but the phone numbers are 214-447-7610 and 817-259-0207.  The card also says "Sorry We Missed You!", along with my name and address printed on it.  Has first attempt checked off.    I will be reporting to the police tomorrow morning.

Ginger, if you are a reporter, I can tell you people need to be aware of this scam. It is not just a telemarketing scam, they are casing people's home for burglary! I received a card on my door two days ago. My husband did some research on it, because the card is very suspicious looking. We asked several neighbors if they had gotten the same card. No one had. One of my neighbors is a local sheriff. He explained this scam to us. They target new home owners. They attempt to find out if you have an alarm system. If you don't, you are a target. If you agree to purchase their alarm system, they will send someone out to case your home and its vulnerabilities. They will install some alarm system that of course they know how to bypass. In a couple of months you may be robbed. Anyone who gets this card should immediately report it to the police and save the card as evidence!

Received a card and called the San Antonio police. They had not heard of anything regarding these cards. I told them about how I had read about neighborhoods being cased, advertising scam etc, they said to be vigilant or they could send an officer and I could file a report. I did not file the report but instead wrote the Texas Attorney General's office to investigate these jerks. I hope they get put out of business. Also of note they are not listed on any BBB complaints.

Just received a second notice saying "sorry we missed you". Just like everyone else we were home. I called the number because this is a rental property and the slip stated the owners name. So I called to let them know she did not reside at this address because I was assuming this was important. They asked if I would get a hold of the owner for them. Thankfully , I said, "No." If it was an important piece of mail they should already have their clients correct contract information.  At that point I knew something was up.  End of conversation, she did not want to talk with me and quickly ended our call.  So, I looked up the company and found all of these postings.

Scam or not people don't like being tricked into thinking they are missing an important piece of mail. When in fact it is a gimmic to make you call. So, to the employees that are writing in saying this is not a scam that you are truly selling services. In speaking for myself I don't like being tricked and lied to when trying to be sold something.  What a horrible sales technique!  If your company is not a scam, then use an honest approach.

Just closed two weeks ago. They are obviously using MLS or public real  estate records. Gated community with a big sign at the entrance that says NO SOLICITING. I'll get my cams plugged in tonight and share their face.

I guess they've tapped the Tucson, AZ market b/c we got one right after we closed on our new home. It's very strange to get a notice like this that includes your name and address. I told my wife that no reputable delivery service would write up our names like that and spend the $$ on that cheesy, trashy slip of paper which looks like some high school-er payed Vista Print to do. My wife and I are musicians and are home most of the day so I hope notice no. 2 comes at the right moment so I can scare "GeoTrek" off.

Thanks for this forum.

So I recently thought of a non intrusive way to tell folks about a promotion I was running.  So I made up some flyers, logged into my lead generator,(salesgenie), uploaded a list of new home owners and hit the road.  How clever I am, or so I thought.  I pulled up to an address and saw the "sorry we missed you" flyer in the door.  At first glance it appeared to be a note for a missed appointment, so I shrugged it off.  However, after the 2nd, 3rd and 4th flyer I took one to read it. I researched the company And found this blog.  Sad.  Sad because I am a sub and I specialize in custom home security, audio/video and surveillance.  And I thought by being straight forward, I could get some respect.  My ad clearly states the promotion I am running for the holidays.  But then you have companies like the ones who use this delivery service to sell security systems and it pisses people off. To make matters worse, the people selling the product don't know the first thing about the equipment they are selling.

Same thing here in south central phx.  I called the number because I thought it maybe something important
since we just moved in and they told me I was going to receive a free coupon book and that they wanted to e-mail it and send some people to sell their security system.  It felt a little threatening at that point. When you call they ask for your conf # first and then you are on the hook since they now have your address and name.  They were very pushy. I hope they dont come back even though I told them not to.

Ginger - would love for you to expose this ruse.

I've received 3 notices.  The best part - the 2nd notice came on Halloween evening and I was sitting outside getting ready to hand out candy.  This guy pulls up in a regular car (ie not a delivery truck, etc), gets out and hands me a notice saying "Sorry we missed you!"

At this point it was a matter of principle to call the number to dig into what was going on - we're they simply moronic yet benign marketeers targeting people who recently purchased a home (I assume they're trolling the county tax records) or was it something more nefarious..

So I call the number after hours and it asks me to enter my confirmation ID.  I altered the ID # they left on the card and first got rejected by the system but finally entered one that was accepted.  A lady answers and says, "This must be Mr. Campbell."  I was honest and said 'no, this isn't Mr. Campbell' and this seemed to fluster her a bit.  I asked if she worked for Geotrek and she said no.  So I asked what company she worked for and she said "Protection Services".  Upon further inquiry, she admitted she was with an alarm company but couldn't confirm what Geotrek was trying to deliver since I wasn't Mr. Campbell.

Alas my devilish side got the best of me and I said, 'what would you say if I told you I WAS Mr. Campbell?'  She perked up and immediately launched into a spiel about a "welcome" gift basket with two different gifts.  First gift was $300 worth of restaurant coupons and all she needed was a valid email address.  Told her I wasn't interested in the coupons.

She then told me about the second gift -  $1000 of worth of free alarm equipment.  Told her I already had an alarm.  I thought we would be done but then she offered to provide free water quality tests.  Told her that ignorance was bliss and I preferred to blissfully/ignorantly continue drinking from the tap rather than know about all the creepy crawly things in my water.

She made a final attempt to get me to bite on something and offered pest control service.

At this point I had determined the outfit was definitely of the moronic, yet benign, marketing type rather than something more nafarious so I politely told her I was not in need of any services and wished her a good evening.

So, although likely not criminal, it is significant case of bait and switch...

Shocked that they would go on the offensive like that. The fact that this number of people have complained and the reality of saying that they missed you and not actuallly ringing the door bell or knocking on the door speaks for itself.  This is a sham business and it will be shut down.  I do know that both Dallas County and the State of Texas are investigating and involving people who have addresses in Georgia and Arizona.
