Caller reached our answering machine but did not leave a message. The number was displayed, but not the name of the organization. To me, these practices are warnings that something's not right. I have read the messages to and from "Cindy" concerning the "Fraternal Order of Police" Foundation. My personal feeling is that using a telemarketing operation to raise funds for a charity gives people an extremely negative impression of the charity and that FOP is damaging their mission. Many of us remember the "State Troopers Association" scam which was supposedly a charity, but was found to channel only a tiny percent of its funds to actual causes while the bulk of the money went to the family that operated the so-called charity. The Texas Attorney General issued a warning about that operation after it tricked thousands of people out of money. If the Fraternal Order of Police is a genuine charity, I hope they clean up their image by dropping the telemarketing strategy.

Then why do you operate like a scam organization? STOP harassing people. NO is NO!!! Being a pain in someones behind does NOT convince them to donate to you!

This number has called me twice in four days, left no message either time.  When I call back, I get, "This number is temporarily unavailable."  Anyone know who this is or what they want?

It is my understanding from talking to people and researching that The Fraternal order of Police (FOP) (any state) is basically a police union.  They help with attorney fees for defense of officers as well as lobbyists to promote their agenda in legislative actions.
The Fallen Officers organization is entirely separate.  They provide help for the families of fallen officers, assist at the funerals, etc.
The FOP people who call and come to my door soliciting dollars always say they represent fallen officers which seems to be false.

Rule #1
I do not give money (CC info)to people who call me soliciting donations over the phone.
Rule #2
Same as rule #1 but with: when they use several different numbers/3rd party callers, odds are less than zero getting of a dime from me.

I live in RR and always help the Fire Dept's "Fill the Boot" and other such fundraisers at intersections or Police/FP charity events.
I think the numerous phone calls are too much. It really puts me off on the whole thing.

to: find out your facts first
I am guessing that you do not speak for the officers.
They are paid to do a job. If they do not want to do that job when called upon then they should leave it. There are many other qualified people who are in need of jobs.
I was in the Army during the first Gulf War. We did not ask for donations to motivate us to do our job. Our drive was not based on how much money was donated to injured soldiers. We signed up to serve and that is what we did.

These people call daily sometimes twice a day.  It is really starting to drive me nuts!  I don't think they are supporting any kind of Police organization or they wouldn't be as rude as everyone else says and if they really needed money they would stay on the line.

This is a nasty, but effective, method of scammers posing as if they are collecting donations for the Texas Fraternal Order of Police. They will use high pressure sales tactics on you in order to wear you down until you provide a donation. They especially trick the elderly, so please be sure to describe this type of phone call to your elder relatives or elder friends. The real Fraternal Order of Police does not collect donations in this manner, and certainly will never hire rude, pushy telemarketers to make phone calls. Again, please explain to elders that these high pressure salesmen are NOT really representing the Fraternal Order of Police. Anyone who would like to donate to their police force should do so in person, or through their website. Please hang up on anyone who makes you feel pressured or uneasy.

Hey "find out your facts first. - 13 Nov 2009":

Why instead of attacking the persons who posted previously, you don't respond to the allegations made against TX FOP??

1.  Is TX FOP a charity (501(c)(3))?
2.  Is the TX FOP associated with ANY Police or Fire Department?
3.  What percentage of a donation to the TX FOP is actually distributed to a Police or Fire Department?

People, it is a scam, don't be fooled by it.  As it has been suggested by some people previously, if you want to donate, call your local police/fire department directly and ask them what they recommend.  They will know and appreciate it.

I have asked them to stop calling, yet I keep getting calls from this "fund raising" company every day. They keep changing the number that they call from, so just blocking one number does not work. They call from 469-718-0642, 281-763-7522, 214-453-6782 just to name a few. They disrupt my home business with these continued calls! SOD OFF, W**KERS!!

I received this phone call this morning and did not answer.  They did not leave a message on my answering machine.  However, out of concern for the purpose of the call I decided to do research.  My Caller ID identified the call as coming from TX FOP.  I found out in the BBB website that there was not enough information provided regarding this organization.

Our officers risk their lives each day to preserve the safety of Texas citizens no matter what the percentage of non-sufficent officers may be.  Times are getting harder and there are many more criminals in the recent past which puts our officers at even a higher risk to serve the Texas public.  After researching I found that one of the most beneficial organizations to aid Texas officers is the 100 club.  Therefore, donating to the 100 club is safe and will aid Texas officers.

I got a call from the company at like 12 am one early morning cause my stupid phone does not have a cut off switch for the ringer. Anyhows, there was no message left. I called back the number immediately cause most phones have where you can check all calls that came in from that day to your phpne whether or not you have caller id. You just have to know how to use it. I got a message that it was the Texas Fraternal Order of Police. I did not know what it was and asked my husband and he said don't worry, it is just people fundraising to get money for something or another. I looked it up and found yall. I just hope they don't call me again. I hate telemarketers or people asking for money. When they ask me for money to help the poor I always say hey I am the Poor. I have six kids and live in government housing and only my husband works cause the little town we live never has any jobs over $7 an hour, which would prove useless cause then we would loosed our apartment because of too much money and also food stamps and what good would that do?
I hope we all keep our money to ourselves to feed our own families in this recession that has gone on for several years now. Oh didnt yall all know we have been in a recession for many years now? well now ya do. Be careful of those people who call, no matter who they say they are, cause like I said we is the poor,,,, at least the majority of us is..

These people call my dad several times a week. He has repeatedly told them that he only donates localy but they refuse to take him off their list. The same men and women call him saying they are from all sorts of different charitable organizations. (Their voices are the same but the organizations are different. Does anyone have a way to get them to stop calling. My dad is 80 and can not take much more of this.

Ah.  Just checked with the Better Business Bureau and they are a BUSINESS.  They are NOT accredited as a Charity, nor do they have the Federal IRS charity designation (501c3..)

They are a BUSINESS.  They masquerade as an organization to help pooooor officers but only a SMALL percent goes to this. (They don't have to file papers to show just how little ,because they are NOT a charity---how great is this country?)

DONATE TO YOUR LOCAL POLICE OR SHERRIF'S FUNDS IF YOU WANT TO HELP SOMEONE!  That way it WILL have a strong chance of being completely used and used locally, in a proper way to help, rather than to enrich a "fraternal" club's coffers.

Forgot to mention.   ANYONE who wants to donate to a legitimate organization, all you have to do is contact your LOCAL police, or organization of choice.

DO NOT DONATE to a NATIONAL or STATE "fund" as only a portion of it is actually going to be used for people.

DONATE DIRECTLY!  That way 100% of it stays local.   Talk to any police agency, they can tell you how, and they'll be happy to know there is local support.

Same with United Way---they may be legitimate, but why not pick out a SPECIFIC organization in your own city/hometown and donate to them directly so you are sure they get all 100% of it to use LOCALLY!

STOP DONATING TO THESE CRAPPY TELEMARKETING ORGS and they will eventually dry up.

It's up to you to stop this!

Texas FOP is a scam but just like MOST non=officially sanctioned scams, they can keep their legality by staying with state limits.    They DO donate a small percentage of what they take in (usually as little as ten percent!) to the actual intends, but most of it goes to their corporation and employees.

I have been harrassed over and over sometimes several times per day and MANY different numbers (over 12 I have recorded so far!).   They can NOT be contacted, and will NOT remove a number, nor will they reply to emails.

Those "ringers" above supporting them are scammers and typical telemarkers trying to protect their scummy jobs lying and misleading people into thinking this helps their local police.   IT DOES NOT.

The home page of the web site "Brandon" references is titled "El Paso Federal Officers Regional Lodge #82".

Under the "Telemarketing" page is stated "The El Paso Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), Lodge 82 conducts telemarketing campaigns in the city....El Paso residents may also receive calls from the Texas State Fraternal Order of Police; both entities conduct telemarketing activities in the El Paso area".

What does this have to do with the rest of Texas? Looks like they decided to extend their calling area! Robocallers extraordinaire!

Called 5:10 on August 7th.

The telemarketing company representing TX FOP is an absolutely sleazy organization. Started calling me (asking for me by name) less than a week after I moved into my place. For the past year, they have been hassling me by hiding their caller ID info as an "Out of area" number that uses call forwarding so I cannot callback or easily trace the call. They don't want *you* to be able to call them for some reason... I setup a block on all "Out of area" calls, and less than a week later they start sending their caller ID info just so they can get past the block and harass me.

Never give them a cent.

I just called back like 3 times and was able to get through and have them take me off their call list. I then called the FOP based in Dallas, TX and they said that they were doing fundraising and that the number was legit... the man I talked to sounded a little strange but I don't know hopefully they don't call again.
