I would agree, and it's your job to do the stopping. What little you've described is enough for you to rack your tormentors on a $1K court judgment at least, legal bills to be paid by the loser.

Whether you are called a debtor or some collector thinks you can flush one out, you have rights and options. Many are simple to exercise if you only learn how. You are granted control of how you are contacted, the right to dispute debt claims, and the means to sue violators at low cost. The FTC and the CFPB can start you on your homework. See also if your state laws grant additional or stronger rights.

Got a call from mr wilson abt credit card debt from 2006. Long story short...the guy had called continuously so i told him that we wont be handling anything over the phone. we needed proof and sufficient proof. He became irrate stating he filed with county atty. I told him fine we have been there and done that... He didnt scare me. He asked me for my name which if he was listening he would have but 2 bad. Then asked where i worked. Yea...like im stupid! I replied i dont work and he became annoyed stating we must be rich for me not to work. Our income is not his business. He actually hung up on me which im glad because i dont like to be childish; moreover, isnt it illegal to hire 4 year olds in the workplace?  We were just asking for proof which if the business is legit and he did buy the acct, he wouldnt have a problem showing proof. He obtained my brothers phone nbr illegally im sure because when i told him i was going to verify he obtained info from the credit card he changed his story. How sad it is that ppl have become this desperate to be successful. God bless you mr wilson... If the name fits wear it:) mr wilson from dennis the menace.

I spoke with an attorney about going after them because they call at work all the time and even had someone show up at my work.  I told him he was trespassing and to leave or I would call the police.  He left without any issues because he didn't have any legal reason to be there.  The attorney I spoke with was pretty cool and said they are a fly by night company and tough to get money out of even if you get a judgment.  They'll just close up shop and open under a new name.  It doesn't hurt to file a complaint with the FTC, Texas OAG, and the BBB but there's not a lot they will do.  I spoke with a lady at the FTC and she is the one that told me unless they are serving you court papers they are considered to be trespassing so she's the one that gave me that advice.  They bought a debt that's 5 years old and statute of limitations in TX is 4 years so there is nothing they can do.  Don't be bullied by these guys.  Go ahead and send them a certified cease and desist letter and that may help a little.  The attorney I spoke with is looking into going after the credit companies because they are violating the FCRA by allowing worldwide to report inaccurate info

These guys are rude and incorrigible. Wannabe private investigators, who purchase your bad debts from financial institutions for <20¢ on the $. Then they harass you and every one you know until they get you to agree to pay. Then they aggressively and repeatedly abuse your credit report. They can and most likely will take you to small claims court, which will negatively affect your credit for 7 years, if you don't pay. But they will not and cannot have you arrested, terminate your employment or anything else they will threaten you with. My advice is to document all correspondence with these guys and file complaints with the state attorney and the FTC. While you have a debt, you are entitled to be treated compassionately and respectfully and these are two things you will not experience with these guys. They are not affiliated with the BBB, however, their rating is F. Be sure to do your homework before you agree to anything with them.

These people are INSANE .. They have called my cell phone numerous times refusing to say how they obtained the number.  Asking where I work etc. Stating they are coming to take my home away and file charges on me they have called my husband and told him he was married to a B**** when I refused to be bullied.  They have impersonated a woman named Sylvia Sanchez and it is obvious this is a man talking they have also used the name of Bob Black.  They are using spoofers to attempt to alter thier voices and plug in known phone numbers so you will answer the call.  They refuse to leave any messages as they do not want to be recorded.  They have hacked my email account and my Facebook account to the point I have had to delete both of them.  We have reported them to the Dallas BBB and also the FTC.  I urge everyone that has any dealings with these people to do the same !!!!!!!!

I have never experienced anything like this company in my life calling my work 5 times in three days , aka sylvia sanchez and bob black making threats to me and my family. They claim i owe them thousands of dollars from a buy out of a credit card i know nothing about. The man voice calls me to threaten , the woman voice calls to find my wife or where she works, then gets upset with me and starts threatening my house and livelihood of work. We call the number back and no one will give out an address , they question the motive when its on them. They need to be investigated further

Guy named Bill Allen from Worldwide Financial called and left a message on my cell phone identifying me by my birthdate and other information.  The message was threatening me with a lawsuit that was to be filed against me for my ex-husband's company that went out of business three years ago, which I knew was bogus because of prior confirmation from my attorney and cpa.  So I called back to be sure there was no law suit being filed erroneously.  When I actually spoke to this Bill Allen, he totally changed his story from the defunct business to a personal debt from HSBC in 2008 that he said had my name on it.  I knew this was a lie because that was months after my divorce and I had no debt from HSBC in 2008.  It was for my ex-husband.  When I pointed out that I knew he was lying, he said there was a collection on my credit report from HSBC in 2002.  Again, I pointed out that I knew he was lying because that debt was paid in full and I still have the records proving such.  He then became very rude and saying that I must be a liar because of my divorce and remarriage.  He illegally obtained my credit report and discriminated against me.

Did you know that you can sue them under the FDCPA and TCPA for intentionally harassing a non-debtor?:

Under the TCPA, a consumer has a right to file a lawsuit and recover $500 for each call that violates the TCPA. The TCPA can also be used in conjunction with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in some situations.

Generally, the TCPA does not apply to debt collectors making collection calls to debtors. However, if you are subjected to calls from a debt collector and you are not the debtor, you may file a lawsuit against the debt collector under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the TCPA.

This right was recently recognized by Judge Legrome D. Davis in a case called Watson v. NCO Group, Inc.  NCO Group is a debt collector that uses automated prerecorded collection calls.  In this case, Mr. Watson alleged he was getting hundreds of calls from NCO Group after he got a new phone number. Mr. Watson claimed he owed no debt to NCO Group, Inc.  Mr. Watson filed suit under both the FDCPA and TCPA.

David Israel, defense lawyer for NCO, argued that the TCPA should not apply to debt collectors.  Judge Davis rejected the argument made by David Israel. The judge ruled that Mr. Watson had a right to sue NCO Group Inc under the TCPA for $500 for each call.  Judge Davis wrote;

[The] Court is convinced that a non-debtor's rights are in fact violated when he is subjected to repeated annoying and abusive debt collection calls that he remains powerless to stop.

Judge Davis' ruling was based upon his interpretation that collection calls to non-debtors violate the privacy rights provided by the TCPA.

So what can you do if you receive "wrong number" calls from debt collectors?

1. Sign up for the Do-Not-Call registry.
2. Save the calls captured by your voice mail or answering machine.
3. Contact a consumer lawyer.

TCPA: What Is It & How Does It Affect You?

The Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991 (TCPA) does many things - including prohibiting debt collectors from calling your cell phone without your permission. Each unauthorized call could result in the debt collector paying you up to $1,500. Here's some helpful information on the Act and how it might affect you.
What is the TCPA?

The TCPA, which was signed into law in 1991 under the first Bush Administration and codified under 47 U.S.C. 227, prohibits calls using any automatic telephone dialing system or artificial or prerecorded voices to:

?Emergency telephone lines
?Telephone lines of any guest room or patient room at a hospital, health care facility, elderly home or similar establishment
?Telephone numbers assigned to paging services, cellular telephone services, specialized mobile radio services, other radio common carrier services or any service for which the called party is charged for the call
?Any telephone call to a residential telephone line
?Send unauthorized faxes
The only way that a caller won't violate the statute is if express consent has been given - and violations of the TCPA are steep. An unintentional call carries a damage amount of $500; an intentional call carries a damage amount of $1,500. That's per call and regardless of the purpose of the call. In other words, if they call you using an automated dialing system without your consent, they've violated the Act and you are entitled to damages.

How does it affect you?

Most debt collectors use automatic telephone dialing systems to contact debtors. You'll recognize this when you go to pick up the phone and there is a slight hesitation on the other end. In fact, most debt collectors are calling nearly 100 people at a time just waiting for someone to answer. Although many have stopped calling landlines, cell phones are another story. Since more and more people are using cell phones either instead of, or in addition to, traditional landlines, debt collectors are finding their cell phone numbers using skip tracers, calling them and hoping that they don't realize that the TCPA has been violated.

Now I receive 5 calls everyday like clockwork. I am going to change my phone number this week. It seems the only way to get them to stop. I don't even owe money!

This comapny is a total bunch of BS collectors they trick you into thinking your going to jail unless you pay them on an accout they bought for probably less tan 20 cents on the dollar.  Then they call you everyday at work and if you don't pay they send the local Law Enforcement out to your job to scare you into paying them.  They are the worst company.  I told the I didn't have any money because my husband had lost his job but they didn't care.  They sent the Sheriff's Dept. to my job of 11 years and I almost got fired.  When we finally ended up in court they told a lot of lies and the judge awarded these crooks 20% of my check for the next year.....

Guy by the name of Mike owns this bunch of illegal bandits  who badger you until you pay a debt that he obviously bought for about 20 cents on the dollar.  I called my original creditor and they sold my debt to this bunch of misfits...They pretend to be a law firm but what they actually do is hire an Attoney to sue you if you don't bend to paying an account that they purchased from your Original Creditor for way less than what you owe.  They sent the Constables Office to my place of employment and almost cost me my job then they lied in court about all the charges I had ran up when all of the true charges were late fees and interest......

The attorney is never in his office and he is and undercover bill collector but he was kinda cool.  He was not an Attorney but he was a legal assistant who handles a lot stupid paperwork and acts as a bill collector also.  The attorney who handles mostly all of the law suits for Worldwide Financial Services is Some dumb Hispanic Attorney with the last name Zorriega.  Most of the time their stupid company won't sue unless a large amount of money is owed.....

The guy that called me was very friendly, but obviously all info did not add up.  He said he was from the Law Office of Austin Associates (in Dallas).  He said that I was being sued (along with ex-husband) for a payday loan.  I asked him specifically if he was collecting information on me and he said no.

Caller ID showed 214-570-7660 WRLDWD FIN SVCS.  A voice mail was left asking me to call Bob Black at 888-559-5514 and I did.

Also, I had recently checked my credit report and Worldwide Financial Services was listed as recently checking my credit but also I had 2 new addresses listed on my report (as me living there) which were not mine.  I disputed the addresses and they removed them immediately.  Maybe you should check your credit report.

I believe they are a collection agency, law enforcement, or possibly even private investigator.
