It's not a scam. You can verify that by using UPS tracking services. I understand if someone calls you unexpectedly and wants personal information, well, I would be suspicious too. I'd probably not be too polite either. If you are expecting a package you can track it at the UPS website. If the status changes to "EXCEPTION" there will be a reason like missing information or tax ID number required. Most domestic shipments will go through with no issues. When international shipping is involved (and yes, Canada is a foreign country) then import tax and duties may be imposed on the item being imported. If you call UPS when the exception is found then you will be ready when the broker calls you. Be advised that the 800 number for UPS is customer service not the UPS brokerage. You will contact customer service with issues and they will relay a message to the broker. The UPS brokerage will then contact you. In my instance it took about an hour from the time I called UPS, received TWO calls from the broker (second was a followup) and the necessary information was sent. The shipment was delivered on time. Good service all around.

This is a scam number. The lady was very convincing claiming to be from UPS brokerage but when I called UPS there is no such number or reference. The email she gave me also had @ups.com so I thought nothing of it until surprise, surprise, the items they were supposedly clearing customs arrived the next morning except it was by US Mail. Take note that UPS will NEVER give you a reference number other than an actual tracking number.

As long as your happy, I'm happy. But under no circumstances would I give a stranger over the phone any personal information, such as my SS#.
| cc 2013-08-01 19:48:53 Unknown |
and they want your social sec. number? Not going to happen on my watch.... My business gets UPS, FEDx, and USPS every day. We have never been asked for a social security number and sure as hell better not.

I just received a call and this is UPS. **it is NOT a scam** I sent out a vision card to get repaired (for one of my machines here at work) from a electronics repair shop in Canada. And it was being held in customs for further information. They DID NOT ask for my SS#. They asked what it was and what the value of the part.
I've regularly shipped things out of the states for repair and it seems in the last 6 months or so that customs has been getting tighter.

Comment above about "they need your social" is pure BS misinformation and the poster is likely a scammer. Do not under any circumstances give personal info to someone over the phone who calls you randomly, no matter what kind of story they tell you. This "importing goods" line is horse crap.

| Anon 2011-09-19 18:01:21 Unknown |
If you're importing goods and they need to clear customs, your social may be needed unless you are a company.

I received a call fom this number. It was a missed call on my cell phone. within the next 2 days, somone used my credit card number to order $2,000 worth of goods, delivered UPS to an address in Philadelphis. Probably not a coincidence if this is a UPS-related number.
