This is a fraudulent debt collection company. They are ?fishing? for your bank account numbers or full SS#.  Do not give them any information or money.  They will pose as a debt collection company for a payday loan or credit card, you may or may not have, and to which you may or may not owe money. They will seem very understanding and nice at first.  Some of their information may be correct and some incorrect. They may have your correct address, names of relatives, and part of your SS#. Your initial response will most likely be panic and shame; which is how they get you to react impulsively and attempt to make payment arrangements. In the United States of America, you cannot go to jail for failing to pay a debt.  They cannot put out a warrant for your arrest, file charges with your county district attorney?s office, or put you jail.  Blocking an ACH charge with your bank is NOT the same as a returned check and does it constitute bank fraud.

They use many different phone numbers and they change numbers constantly:
215-710-0733 (Location: Pennsylvania)
224-267-0820 (Location: Illinois)
303- 835-6940 (Location: Colorado)
Block these numbers. There will be different ones that appear at a later date.

If you search online, there will not be a legitimate business, collection agency, or website connected to the phone numbers.

It?s going to take some work and quite a few hours to protect yourself.  Ground yourself, get strong, and get to work!

1.    Go to your bank and put a Fraud Alert on your accounts. Block any ACH charges if you decided to pay off the phony debt.
2.    When they call back, try to get as much information from them as you can, this will help when you report them. In many states, debt collections agencies must be licensed. Ask for their license number and check it out online. The California Attorney General?s Office states that a debt collection agency must give the name of the original creditor, the original account number, address for creditor, and creditor?s telephone number. They will vacillate, attack you, and/or change the subject.  Keep extensive notes and any demand letters, as evidence for the law enforcement agencies.  DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY ADDITIONAL PERSONAL INFORMATION!
3.    When you question them, they are going to get nasty and verbally abusive. Repeat your requests for information and take notes.
4.    Go online to the credit bureaus and put file a fraud alert- you only need to put an alert with one credit reporting agency.  In turn, they must notify the other credit bureaus. www.Experian.com.
5.    Check your credit report, most likely there will not be any collection activity from the original creditor (credit card, payday loan etc).  If there is, contact the lender directly.
6.    File complaints with the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) www.ic3.gov, the FTC www.ftc.gov and. www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint .  Keep notes and all correspondence for evidence for IC3, FTC, and Consumer Finance.
7.    These con artists will call back as a different company.  Be ready.  Block their number. Block the new numbers when they call back.  I have been dealing with them for two years but I am smarter now.  I hope this helps!  Best of luck!

We had the same experience as others -- two robo-calls about a "returned item from your bank", but no callback number.  We called the number our called id showed.  Century Claims' personnel were verbally abusive, and stated that my wife would be arrested the next business day over this unsubstantiated "debt".

Their mailing address is in GA.  I'd suggest filing  a complaint with the GA Governor's Office of Consumer Protection.  http://consumer.georgia.gov/consumer-services/filing-a-complaint

They get your number by using auto-dialers - they work their way through all numbers in a given area code.  So it doesn't matter if you're on the DNC list or not.  Anyway, when have you known scammers to obey the law?

This number just began calling me last week, something about an item that was returned by my bank, I called my bank and they said no item has been returned whats so ever... They adviced to be careful with ongoing scams by criminals, they also said to call the FTC and file a complaint. My bank said that in any case that an "item was returned by my bank", a letter would be sent to my residence, they would not call and leave a generic message about a banking matter of an item returned by my bank.

I used to get nervous when I received these type of calls, so I contacted a friend of mine that is a lawyer in many areas including collections and bankruptcies and she told me that I should not worry about phone calls that threaten you or robo calls, she told me to never give any info over the phone and only take action if you are ever actually served papers or receive collection letters.

Same type of call:  I've got this at least 20 times in the past 6 months. It says (automated) "This is a very important banking call regarding a returned item in your checking account. If you do not return this call, you can be prosecuted to the fullest extent by law" but they do not leave a return phone number. THIS IS A SCAM!!!  I'm trying to get this out everywhere possible anyone would look on line as I am sick of getting this call. I returned it one time and ordered them to stop calling as I do not have a checking account. They wanted to verify my name and ask me the name of my banking institution.
AS MUCH AS THESE NUMBERS GET REPORTED, I DO NOT SEE WHY SOMETHING CANNOT BY DONE BY THE AUTHORITIES! No wonder people are getting ripped out of thousands of dollars like our "Elderly" who do not have internet because authorities cannot do anything about this apparently even though all of us are reporting these calls and trying to do our best as citizens to help protect others....go figure

Same call happened on home phone something about an item being returned from my bank.  I haven't had a bank account in over a year.  I tried to return the call and of course they were always busy with other clients.  I am reporting this number to the police as pure scam, and that is exactly what I told them when I left a message.

I also got this phone call this morning. telling me that there was a warrant out for my arrest due to not payin a pay day loan back! which I have never taken out. I asked them all kinds of questions to try to get some answers and they wouldn't shut up for me to a word in! they told me it was goin to cost me $680 to settle this out of court I hung up on them. I called back to try to get some more information about the company when they told me it was now goin to cost me $2800 to settle this. after I make this payment that they will stop my warrant! (which can not b done) once a warrant is issued there is no removing it. only way to lift a warrant is to b arrested. that's when I knew it was complete BS. called the sheriffs office and there was nothing in there system. no case no warrant. needless to say these people are just out to make some quick money! don't fall for it!!

They called and I called back. Spoke to a women who claimed she was an Investigator. Investigator Williams. She asked about a debt that I did have but had paid for and they wanted to arrest me for check fraud and something else because the bank account they had was closed. She said that the company thought I had malicious intend. They were going to process me on Thursday and I had to pay $1000+. She asked for my address and I said I didn't feel comfortable with that and she said she could look it up by my social security number and get all of my info. She is suppose to send me an email with all of the details for my lawyer to look at and asked for his information. I do think it's bogus! She started catching an attitude at the end. The company is supposedly "Century Claims". Looked it up and haven't found it so far.

I just received a call from his number saying something about a return from the bank and if I didn't call back I would be punished to the fullest extent of the law. No name or number was left. I didn't call back. I immediately googled the number. I won't be calling or answering this number.

I also just received a call from this number with threats that I would be arrested today as a matter of fact. The only way to get out of the warrant would be to pay them $3800.00. Bogus crap! The guy even mentioned apparent names I had never heard of before that supposedly I used as a reference? Reference for what? When I asked where he was calling from all he could tell me was they were a fraudulent check company. Yet he would not reveal the company name? He would not even give his name. Hmm something is a little fishy. I sympathize with you all. This is so illegal.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I received the same call so I called the number back.  First, the person that answered was the same person that called me a month ago claiming that he (or she? strange voice) was a detective and that I had a warrant.  At that time I told "it" off, demanded a badge number and the location of the so called police station, it hung up.
Fast-forward to today: the message said my bank supposedly returned an item and I immediately knew is was BS because I haven't used a bank since 2007.  The same "it" answered and after I mentioned not having an account, I said I recognized their ridiculous voice as the BS caller last month.  It tried to deny it, started yelling at me, and I couldn't help but laugh.  A lot.  It hung up so I called back, a lady answered and said she was a detective, I asked for her badge number and she said I had to submit paperwork to get that. I told her badge numbers are public knowledge and she told me she was sending cops to arrest me for cussing her out.  OK, do it.  Not once did she ask for a specific person or ask what my name was, and my number is private/unlisted.  I called back 4 more times and just left the speaker on while I watched TV, I wanted to let them know what it's like to have people call without knowing WHY.

got an automated message from this number, they said something about my bank account.  Knowing full well there is nothing wrong with my account and tired of the b***s*** calls I get, I called the number back, *67 of course to block my number.  I asked the man what the call was about and he told me it was a warrant for my arrest.  Made me giggle. I asked for what?  Obviously he couldn't tell me but then asked if I was from this country.  I asked him if it sounded like I wasn't ( I have a very strong New York accent) he then told me I sounded like trailer trash, which I didn't know had an accent.  We exchanged words a few f u's and a***oles.  Just tired of the b***s*** with these a***oles
