I got a call with a voice mall but the voice
mail was silent.

224-217-9445, 864-326-4994 and 954-278-8381 are all phone numbers used by some telemarketing company to try selling alarms.. The third number traces to Echosystems in the Ft. Lauderdale area, the others are in other parts of the country. I think law enforcement should look into this. Ft Lauderdale is hundreds of miles from me, why would I be interested in dealing with a company so far away.

I use Google Voice, so I can control/stop numbers from repeatedly calling me. This is one I sent to my "disconnect" list - when a call comes in from this number, it goes immediately to a special message that I set up that says the "number you are calling has been disconnected".

Calls that are annoying only make it through once. Screw the no-call list, I took matters into my own hands.

I also have Google Voice set up to transcribe voicemails that are left. This number, 2242179445, left the following message:

Received a call at 7:45 pm, the voice mail was a buzzing noise then disconnected quickly.

Insulting someone's beliefs does nothing to help further this thread.  Get over yourself and find something productive to do.

recived call today (2-18-2013) from this number @ 4:25 p.m. i called it back (i aint afraid like most the people seems to be on here to call a number back ... its not like they can shoot me through the phone) the numbers automatic message said they were calling people in higher than normal crime rate areas to offer a security package, press 1 to talk press 2 to be removed, i pressed 1 so i could give them what for about using scare tactics to sell their product as well as using cold calls, then a strange thing happened the same automated voice came back on and asked if my credit score was over 600  to press 1 or if not press 2 , i pressed 1 (even though its not) automated voice again, asking if i have time to talk now or if i want a call back , again 1 and 2 respectively i pressed 1 , why else would i be calling back? finally it rang ... ONCE AND WAS DISCONNECTED ! . tried it again same result tried it again again and this time i pushed 2 for the credit score (saying it was under 600) and i was diconnected with a busy signal.

tldr: ITS A SCAM!

I agree.  I only have a basic cell phone. I have everything else on it blocked since I have had the phone which is about 4 years.  However I also call a call from this number.  This was the first time that I got the call.

Caller left no message and just hung up after 3 seconds.

Its a bug in the software. Somewhere we, you all, looked up something, text something, or said something that put us on a watch list. Look into it.....mine sounded like a fuzzy recording. The old record players from movies but faint. Oh, I have no apps and my phone is an antique blackberry. Its called 2x while I was in the middle of digging on the net.

Do these people think we havae nothing better to do than be bothered by their calls?

What if it came in while I was with a Doctor, or in Church at Mass?

So, what can we do to STOP them?  Besides blocking the number.
Because often, they just use other numbers and keep calling.

They left a message that was trying to give me a "free" security system for my home.  It sounded like the same pitch I have gotten twice before from ADT.

An obvious scam....& a chicken s*** one at that.

The number was on my caller ID, but no message.  Somehow they got my private number, no doubt a telemarketer.

This happens because these scammers use autodialers which just dial numbers at random. They don't cross-check with the Do Not Call registry. They just hope for people who are stupid enough to respond.
