My mother received the same thing, same message, same names, same phone number.  Only the "public record" in her case is a filed foreclosure, not a death.  Glad to see this string, and know that it's people trying to take advantage.

I got the same letter today. My house is on the market so I found it so strange that these people wouldn't contact my Realtor. You know they are up to no good when they have to use a fake last name. So Robert Lisk aka Robert Scott claims to be a Custom Home Builder but in realty he is the type of person who gives the construction industry a bad name.

I received the same letter on 02/25/11.  Handwritten on yellow lined paper with red ink from Elizabeth Scott.  Oddly, the envelope was not sealed, the flap was just tucked in.  We have lived in our home for 30 years and it is not for sale, and no deaths associated with this address.  The letter is going to Lisa Madigan's office this week.

I received the same yellow legal pad note. What a bunch of B.S.
Only good thing is the sender has to pay for postage at 44 cents@, the envelope and the paper.
Too bad there isn't a return stamped envelope to send the same note back to the sender and cost them another 44 cents!
Some people are really desperate. They need to get a life!

Same yellow letter. In the past we have gotten other post cards or letters left in our mailbox.  Just like most of you we are not selling nor has there been a death in the family. They are scammers looking for seniors or people down on there luck. They really don`t want to start with me lol. I am leaving a message with the fraud division @ Illinois Attorney General

Got the same letter as everyone else, today. We are currently going thru rough times with the house due to unemployment and for a moment I felt relieved  ...unitl now.

I found it odd that the postmark was from Tampa, Florida (and also the envelope was not sealed) and decided to Google the address and to my surprise saw some kind of a strip mall. Then I decided to search for "Elizabeth Scott" and here I am.

Thanks God, I didnt get to call or make a deal with them. My family says I am compulsive because I waste my time researching stuff ... Oh well, I am glad I did my researching, as usual. Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the info.

I received one also.  This is the third or fourth letter like this I have received in the past few years.  I have never called any of the phone numbers- just assumed it was a scam of sorts.

I just got the same letter today.  Exact same verbage. I live in Glenview.  The postmark is from St.Petersberg Florida. My guess is that some "work from home" scam is getting people to handwrite letters and mail them to certain addresses.  If one of them hits and materializes into some sort of payday loan deal then the letter writer probably earns some sort of small commission.  The only reason I can think that they picked my house was that we bought it a year ago as a short sale so it probably shows up on some local records as a distressed property.  What the poor sap letter writer in Florida doesn't realize is that their  participation could be considered mail fraud.

We received a yellow note with red writing from "Elizabeth and Robert Scott" stating they'd like to buy our house as well.  I could not find them in the white pages and am not sure how they got our names, since we don't live at our house, but are renting it.  We have not had any recent deaths in the family, unless they know something I don't know . . .

I also got this letter...we rent the property from an owner elsewhere.  I called the number, and the office lady said that they are real estate brokers who will inquire with letters to an area that one of their clients may be interested in moving.  Don't know if this is true...but it was informative at least.

I too received the letter.  You mentioned that you thought they might have been following deaths...If they were on top of things they would have realized they just sent this crazy thing to a Funeral Home.   I live in the Funeral Home so I guess you could say there have been lots of deaths.  All I can say is they have no idea who or what they are sending this junk too.
