I got this call from 225-709-0802 today and I told them they have the wrong number than they insist that it must be my brother and that it's imperative that he return their call. They will not tell me what the call about  and then hung up. Very odd and rude.

This has to be a scam!  I have read all post.  I have had the same occurence of incidents, with the exception of Sherman.  It is evidentary because one minute this company is DRS; the next minute it is ICS.  I am definitely submitting a letter to FTC.  Whatever you do, do not give the guy or gal your info; just try to get as much info from them.

he 225-709-0802 # shows up on my caller ID on my cell phone.  They call dailey leaving harsh messages for someone I don't know and a return toll free #,  I called it and my # was routed to the same voice that left the threatening messages.  I told him he is calling the wrong # and he asked if I knew the person and stated that my # was listed with his SS#. I was told he's make note of the wrong # but will still get calls for a while.  Meantime he burned up a lot of my minutes.  He would not tell me his name or company.  This unwanted call blocking isn't working because I opted out for it.

Michael Haines worked with me to resolve 2 seperate accts. I had two accts that charged off in 2008 when i had a stroke. He ended up getting me a 30% settlement on both accts. I don't see it Heather, sorry.

I received a call from this company today from someone who could barely speak English. Gave the name of the company as BPR a recovery company asking for my social - last four - which I refused to give.  They said that I had an outstanding Chemical Bank Mastercard from the 1990's which I have refused to pay.  I filed bankruptcy in 1998 in which this was included - they are claiming that they have all my records and I never filed bankruptcy. Told them that their company has not done their due diligence and they hung up.

I think we have all had the same exact man his name is Michael Haines from a company by the name of DRS. I recieved a phone call about a debt from 6 years ago today. The man was as mean and unprofessional as it gets. He continually refused to send me a paper statement even when I expressed great concern with giving my credit card information over the phone. He also refused numerous time to transfer me to a supervisor. He also proceded to tell me that I am obviously refusing to pay my debt so I obviously dont care about my credit. Then he tells me he loves his job because he is able to help hard working Americans and that I am not one of them. I told him I would be willing to pay my debt if I had something in writing with my name the account number and the total and he again refused. My husband then called back the number trying to speak to a supervisor about the mans unprofessional customer service and he treated him the same exact way. There must be something that can be done about this...right?

ICS Management called me and when i called back they represented that it was a legal case even thought it was not a legal case.   They refused to acknowledge the note below about a "wrong number."  In fact they said I had the wrong number.  If I do then who the heck is the person below from ICS managment?

It is a federal violation to threaten legal recourse when there is no intent to do so.  Will be filing with the State of Colorado, BBB, and Federal the unfair practices from ICS Management.

Anything legitimate (and legitimately reported to the three credit bureaus) falls off the credit reports after 10 years, by federal law

If it doesn't show up on your report then forget it. In fact, if it is going to fall off within 3 years I'd urge caution in deciding to pay it at all, since a payment of any size to a legit collection agency or the creditor (if they still own the debt) reactivates what had become an inactive account (I believe that is a minimum of 24 months inactivity; that is, no changes to the account: an increase of the balance, any payments, etc.).

If a previously inactive account become active again - EVEN BECAUSE YOU PAID IT IN FULL - then your credit scores will be draggeed down pretty low, eventually rising as the system "rewards" you for paying it off. It drops your score hard at first because the account becoming active again restores the derogatory status to "current" (it picks up where it left off when it became inactive) and that slams your score. It takes time for the pay-off to offset the low score from the original derogatory.

Most credit experts will advise you not to pay off an old debt so close to dropping off the reports by itself, unless you have a compelling need to do so right now and you can't wait for the drop-off.

Don't ever pay ANYONE for a debt older than 10 years - even if they have paperwork. They probably never filed with the credit bureaus. I suspect lying to the bureaus is a federal offense for a creditor - it would be fraud.

This is a scam! This  number has been calling me for the last 2 weeks and leaving the same message over and over again. I knew it was a debt collection company from just listening to the message. 2 years ago I spent over $15,000 cleaning up my credit and paying off old debts so I could buy a house.

Anyway they just called again today and caught me in a bad mood so I picked up ready to fuss him out! I think the guy was actually shocked I picked up because he was stunned for a minute and didn't know what to say! LOL

So I asked him what the harassing calls were about and he said it was about a Visa Classic card from Verizon that I owed $2600 on and that they were so graciously willing to accept $800 to settle.

When I told him I knew exactly which card he was talking about, and that I had already paid that card off through Asset Acceptance LLC, and had all the documentation to prove it, he tried to play it off saying it is still current in their system, and that I need to settle the account or else!

So I told him, you know what, I'll give you my address and you can mail me all the documents regarding this "supposed" debt and I'll compare it with all of my paid off letters from the other debt collectors and if it's one of the accounts that was paid off I'll fax them the paperwork. I also told him I had no intention of paying anything until I could see something in writing. And what was his response? He hung up on me! LOL!

These debt collectors, what they do is buy old credit file/bad debt history/files and call and try to scam you into paying them something to make it go away!

DO NOT PAY THEM ANYTHING without seeing something in writing first! And then like your tax return, keep any documents from debt collectors that you have paid off for at least 10 years in case something like this comes around you have proof the debt was paid off!

I'll be reporting this company and their fraudulent practices to the FTC and who ever else I can think of!

When I called this 'customer service' number, the woman I spoke with was just as abusive and devious as the first guy.  Don't waste your time calling their supervisor.  The debt they claim for me does not exist. I would know if I ever owed $2,000 to Chase Manhattan Bank.  These guys are up to no good trying to profit from sending bogus earning documents to individuals that they can claim as losses backed up by bogus tax forms. Write your Attorney General, and the LA Attorney General, in addition to the FTC.

They are a medical debt collection agency.  I was hospitalized, twice, had surgery, with no health insurance, and didn't qualify for help.  I have approx. $180,000 in medical debts, to which I pay what I can every month.  It's the best I can do since my husband is disabled from a stroke & HIS expenses run $2000/mo.  They ARE accepting what I pay (cash the checks).  My attorney advised me that, as long as they're cashing the checks, they're accepting the amount I'm paying.

A man called and left a voice mail calling me by a name that has not been mine in 27 years.  Calling me by the name I have not been in 27 years that ICS had an issue that was very time sensitive and either me (again calling by a name that has not been mine in 27 yrs) or my legal representative needed to call them by no later than 5pm in the afternoon in order to take care of this very time sensitive matter.  And then left a number of 1-877-215-1124 when the number of 225-709-0802 showed up when he called.  I have not and will not call them back.  For if it was so time sensitive they should have called me before 27 years went by.  I have no earthy idea what the man was talking about and he talked so fast and muffled I had to play the message back about 10 times to understand it.
