(1) Junk Debt - something from your ancient past that no legitimate collector would go after
(2) Another person's debt - possibly someone with a similar name
(3) Locator call regarding a relative, friend
(4) Fake debt collector
(5) Legitimate debt that you have already paid, but which someone has resurrected

Never admit to a debt or agree to make a payment on the phone.  In so doing you can unwittingly affirm an invalid or time barred debt.  If they can't do business in writing, they are not operating legitimately.  If they have to have payment today, they are not to be trusted.  Never make payments using your personal accounts.  Credit card payments, check by phone, or other account access is financial suicide.  If there is payment to be made, use a United States Postal Service money order, sent certified mail, return receipt requested.  This is your best safeguard against fraud, and provides a record of your payment if you hang on to the paperwork.  I also suggest using your cell phone camera or a scanner to provide a backup record of the documents.

CA's want you to believe that they are in control.  The opposite is true.  You are in control, if you choose to be.  That doesn't change unless they get a judgement against you.

You have no debts, & please notice, that they NEVER said who they were calling for. Take a few minutes to read a few postings here, & in the forum. 100% chance it's the fake loan collection scam.

This number left a message on my answering machine "Call the office of Cheryl Fraser this is a matter that requires your immediate attention."  I don't owe anybody anything, so why are they calling? It sounds like some sort of debt collection company, but is it?
