called my cell phone twice within a 30 second span. I didn't recognize number (only a few people know my cell number). Figured it was spam. I see from other posts that it was indeed.

Consumer alert: Debt reduction companies
Beware of ?too good to be true offers?
Ottawa, January 10, 2012 ? The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) today issued a Consumer Alert on debt reduction companies. FCAC is warning Canadians: Be very cautious about companies that claim they can negotiate a deal with your creditors so that you will have to pay only part of your debt. This process is often called ?debt reduction,? ?debt settlement,? ?debt relief? or ?debt negotiation.?
Consumers who are looking for information on dealing with their debt will find tips on getting out of debt on FCAC's website at fcac.gc.ca
About FCAC
With educational materials and interactive tools, the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) provides objective information about financial products and services to help Canadians increase their financial knowledge and confidence in managing their personal finances. FCAC informs consumers about their rights and responsibilities when dealing with banks and federally regulated trust, loan and insurance companies. FCAC also makes sure that federally regulated financial institutions, payment card network operators and external complaints bodies comply with legislation and industry commitments intended to protect consumers.

this recorded message called me and asked me to press one. i did and got through to a nice young guy who advised me on what options i can take regarding my debt problems. i have been in debt for years and really find no way out of it, these guys silverthorn and lupolover lawyers have some really good programs for helping people get out of debt. if you are in the same position as me, and i know many are, let them help you. i cannot understand how people react so bad when numbers call them, everybody these days seem to be glued to their mobile phones. Telemarketer/ Scammer for "debt consolidation". The message did not mention the name of the caller. This is very likely a scam!
DD 2011-10-29 20:08:55 Telemarketer
Call today from this number. A debit consolidation company. You can't even have a cell phone just for emergency purposes anymore as all these damn telemarketers are calling. It's despicable...
Rediculous 2011-10-29 01:09:22 Telemarketer
The company responsible for this is Silverthorn & Lupolover Lawyers (www.sllaw.ca). This is an old debt settlement scam that was banned last year in the states. Apparently shady lawyers are now doing the same scam there too since it's now illegal for everyone else to do it. I would suggest that you complain to the Law Society of Upper Canada if you are upset. One of the lawyers who is a partner in this company, Mark Anthony Silverthorn, is registered with the law society (www.lsuc.on.ca). If enough people complain maybe they will discipline him because this is rediculous.

Kitchener DNC Called 2011-10-25 21:39:46 Telemarketer
Same as others - on the DNC list (What a joke - Harper!).
Whenever I get these I leave them on the line after telling them I'll be back. Best was the fake MS Tech support wanting to get access to my computer - pretended I was a total idiot for an hoiur until they cursed me and hung up.
The other thing is get their name (if you talk to them), the company name, and call back number before you tell them they have jsut cost hteir company $250,000 because they are calling a number on the DNC. - Never call back after those statements.

Bunch of idiots. This is a telemarketing call for debt consolidation. I did not give them my phone number. Some recruiter or job site must have sold it to them! This really ticks me off. So I can't look for a job without having to worry that some recruiter will sell my info to people like this??? UGH!!

I got the same recording related to debt consolidation.
Perhaps we have something in common. I'm sure that if we compared notes there is a common reason why this co. keeps calling. I don't know about any of you but I'm upto my neck in bills but then who isn't!
This co. obviously has access to some sort of a list...oh well, don't have the resources to pursue this any further.
