A woman with an Indian accent called, said she was from "The Technical Department", and there have been many error messages from my computer.  I told her that nobody in connection with my computer purchase or usage has my phone number, and that there have been no problems, I asked who she was with and she did not answer.

She claimed that my computer license number was (a 31 digit number, which she read aloud.) She wanted me to press the Windows key and R at the same time, bringing up the Command line. I told her that I wasn't going to anything that she said.  She said that my computer would be disconnected within a week.  I told her that I didn't believe anything she said, and she hung up.

I just had the guy on the line. Nice-sounding fellow, a bit of a thick accent. Said he was from "Windows Support".

Anyway, he told me my windows machine had been compromised, so I asked him which machine that might be. He said the computer. I said I knew he meant a computer, but which one? We have five in this house.

He couldn't answer that question, but tried to tell me the problem likely affect all of them since they were networked.

So I asked him how he got our number, and he said he was replying to a call from us! I asked him who here called him, and he couldn't answer.

I suggested he might have the wrong number, since I'm pretty sure nobody here called "Windows Support" since that fifth computer, a laptop that has not been used in over a year, is the only Windows machine in this Macintosh household.

He insisted he had the correct number, and that our computers were in imminent danger. I asked him how he could be so sure he has the correct number, given that the person he called is pretty sure nobody requested any "Windows Support."

At this point I'm almost ready to say he was no longer sounding like a nice guy, but my Mama always said it was good people skills to assume the best about people, so I did.

I asked him what I needed to do, and he said he'd need a credit card number before he could "fix Windows." I reminded him that no windows machine had been used in this house in over a year. He told me I must be mistaken and that if I didn't respond to his attempts to help us, we would likely have our computers taken over by bad guys.

Now, I don't care too much for the bad guys, so I found this a little disconcerting, and I let him know. I told him I was going to disconnect all our computer from the inter webs immediately, and never connect them again. I've seen all the cat videos on the You Tubes, anyway, so whats the point anymore?

Now, he got downright flustered at this, raised his voice with me, and copped an aggressive tone, so I realized that sometimes Mama is wrong, so I called him a snot-faced, low life, double-dealing, lying lump of cow manure and hung up on him.

Well, long story short, I Googlified the number and found all you nice people here, so I'm sure glad I didn't let this guy fix my long-mothballed Windows machine that someone called him about. It sounds like a real ripoff job to me, it sure do.

I didn't answer because there was no caller id. After reading these posts, I am happy I did not answer. I was suspicious anyway because of the 555 prefix on the number, but, apparently, that prefix may actually be good for some numbers. However, the area code 232 is currently "unassigned" in the US, so, this number is totally bogus. What a joke and what a waste of everyone's time.

Okay, folks, listen up.  Remember the prefix "555" is used only in movies so they don't accidentally give out an individual's real phone number because there is no such prefix.  Our India friends are too dumb to know that.

Third world country person called my mother and told her her computer was going to crash and that she needed to be in front of her computer.  She gave me the number to call and I called them three times.  The first time I asked for their company name and was asked "for what purpose do you want to know?"  I said "as a consumer, am I not entitled?" He hung up.  The second time I got the guy that called my mother and we were disconnected.  The third time I called and told the guy I was reporting them to the Better Business Bureau to which he replied "why do you want my manager?"  The second guy called me back and we went round and round about the computer "issues" my mother was having.  He said that he knew what her system was and I asked him what he shows her system is and he said "I do not know, I need her to be in front of the computer."  Right.....it's a scam.

Word for word what happened in previous messages, except he got hostile and yelled at me that "I need to listen" I asked for his info and he hung up. I wish we could track hi down and file charges, obviously this is a severe reoccurring problem.

Same story here.  If they are too stupid to find real work, they need to leave us (who still work after age 70) alone.  Of course, people who are criminals don't care about others.  We just got a new phone system that has an internal blocking system for these numbers.  That should cancel out the next 250 bogus numbers, good for several months at least!  We receive about 30 calls a week from these snot bags, almost all from the same numbers.  We have caller ID, so just never answer if we know the number is a scam.  Real people can leave a message.

Indian accent states he is from Windows then AT&T. Stating he knows people have been trying to get in my computer told him several times we do not own computers.  Asked for his supervisor and informed him that while I wait for his sup will have cops over to talk to his sup. He hung up calls every week though. It makes me sick that this is a scam elderly will fall for.

I also received a call from these guys. I told them I don't have a computer and he shouted in the phone that I was a liar. I hung up on him after that. But for the next 2 to 3 days I kept receiving calls from them using two different telephone numbers and the calls were early in the morning and late at night.  I kind of felt like he was trying to harass me.

Indian accented male called my wife and told her he was from the people who made Windows Version 7 and 8 (warning 1) and they were receiving info from my computer with with the id and product number attached (warning 2).  She had him hold on and routed the call to me (IT Dept) and I asked him what the problem was.  He said my computer was leaking information on the web (warning 3). I interrupted him and asked him what was the id and product number of my computer (no way he could know it) and he began telling me how to find it (I interrupted him and asked him what numbers he had, not what numbers I had).  He asked me why I am being overly smart and hung up.  Wasn't even done well. He didn't even have a good script...but then again they pray on those who aren't in IT.
