called after 8pm.  did not recognize name or number.  many other posters indicate this is possible scam

I answered being a local number. It's someone looking for donations to the police and you get a window sticker. The strange part is, This is the same exact person that called for the same thing from (352) 200-2072 a month ago. That time and this time I requested to be added to their do not call list. He politely said he did. Hmmmm. Sorry but legit or not, I no longer give any information over the phone to anyone unless I'm the one calling and I know for sure who I'm talking to.

Claim to be the Florida State Police asking for 15 dollar donation per month for veterans.   I don't believe it.

The DNC does do its job and works just fine! It does what it was meant to do. People tend to really misunderstand how it works and generally do not understand that the DNC does not protect you from the scams, frauds, extortionists and the unscrupulous nasty's that refuse to obey laws. Charity's and political, along with some survey's are exempt from this.  Most of those will place you on the their internal DNC if asked though and there is a political DNC (it works very well too I might add) list you can sign up with.  

Complaints filed with the DNC and other agency's are used to establish a pattern, then they can take action. They do make busts, they do fine them, and they do make arrests. You also need to realize that some of these bad actors are located in foreign country's and then their government has to work with ours. Slow it may be, but it does happen!

The more complaints filed, the more info they have to go on!

I am on both the totally worthless national and Florida DNC lists.  I bought a $60 Panasonic KX-TG6841B Expandable Digital Cordless Answering System with Handset from Adorama, which has blocking capacity of 250 numbers.  I do not answer my phone unless I recognize the number or they leave a recognizable message and have blocked over 100 numbers in just a few months - that's an average of two numbers every three days - and it is not even the political season yet.  The system also blocks calls from phone number "1" which cannot be recorded on this site and has so far called me 6 times.

I have no horse in the race of trying to sell call blocking devices - other than to put these telemarketing a-holes out of business.

WAM Media Group.  Caller is somewhere in the Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Lehigh Acres, FL area

I had already blocked area code 239 due to other bogus calls so I was undisturbed when this number tried to interrupt my quiet Sunday afternoon. :-)

They would not talk to my answering machine, sounded like nobody was on the line.
