If it sounds fishy...or "unusual'...it's a scam.  I don't need Landmark Productions to give to our military.

Got a call last night on landline of 239-431-7868 at 8 pm.  noticed it at 10 p.m.  No message.  It worried me since my dad is a VET.  Called it back this am and it was a fax line that came across.  How do you know its a VA fund raising number?

  On caller i.d. it says: Veterans Benefit"

   I always pick up the phone and set the receiver down and let them figure it out. heh heh

VFW Fundraising

The Veterans of Foreign Wars, North Carolina Department, has department representatives calling  citizens in the area to ask them to contribute donations to aid in the VFW?s continuing efforts to send goody boxes to soldiers overseas and to help soldiers, veterans, and their families who have fallen on hard times due to their participation in the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars.

The company representing the VFW is called Landmark Productions.  They can and will stop by your home to pick up your donation.  They will ask donors to leave a check (in a sealed envelope labeled VFW) taped to their front door for personal pickup.  This method may appear unusual, but it is not a scam.  Landmark Productions is an approved fundraiser by the Department of North Carolina.

If a donor does not feel comfortable in leaving a check for pickup, and still wants to contribute, they are asked to send their check to the Department Headquarters at 917 New Bern Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27601.  Please make the check payable to:  VFWNC

If the VFW is really working with such a company I feel sorry for them (the VFW). They don't deserve such scummery.

Got 2alls from this number. Raising money for VFW. Check taped to the door thing. Looked into them and they are a professional fundraising company that keeps about 75% of what they collect. VFW of NC website says that they have partnered with Landmark Productions and that this is not a scam. vfwnc.org. I am a veteran and donate directly to the VFW as my stepdad was a post commander. Told them to come by and get the check off the door just for fun! Let the driver waste their time like the company wasted miNe on the phone. My next door neighbor is a county sheriffs deputy too! Meanwhile I will drop a check in the mail to the VFW directly. Don't donate through this company! Send a check directly to the organization of your choice so that they get 100% of the money you send.

Faked / spoofed number that you can't call them back on - first red flag of a scam artist!!

These guys have called before - it's a professional fundraiser who keeps most of the money that they collect.  Don't waste your time and effort to give anything to a professional fund raising group since most of the money collected goes straight into the pockets of the telemarketers - who then use that money to make even more calls to us like these.

There ought to be a law to tax the hell out of scam artists like these - where they collect money and then only give the charity 10%-15% and keep the rest - they should be taxed at a rate of 75% on the money they keep and that should be passed along to the intended charity.   And NO DEDUCTIONS for these professional fundraisers!!

Received call from above number similar to reports for funds to send boxes to soldiers in Afghanistan.  At the mention of this I told him no, that I do that through my church.  But am aware that they are no longer allowing shipments of boxes containing these items to troops anywhere from my Social Ministries work and military contacts in Northern VA.

Beware, this is a scam.  They want a check from you, taped to your door and someone would come to pick it up.  When I asked for them to mail donation info to me, they said they didn't work that way and hung up.

CID said Vet Benefits.  Lady said she was calling on behalf of VFW.  They were asking for donations to buy items to put in boxes to send to soldiers in Afghanistan, etc. and wanted a check made out to them and "For Deposit Only" written on the back.  Then I was to put it in an envelope, tape it to my door and it would be picked up by someone.  Boy did they call the wrong number (mine)!  In my earlier life I worked with many veterans organizations and know they do not operate this way.  I told the woman calling I would be happy to donate if they would send me something in the mail and I would mail back my donation.  She said they didn't work that way and for me to have a nice day and hung up.  This is absolutely a SCAM!!

got a call from this number, and I love dealing with telemarketers, the more distastefull, the better.  So, they IDed as a veterans Benefit org, and wanted money.  My response was to feign an arabic accent, explain that I would not be support the infideels who corrupted their constitution (much like Hitler in the 30s) just to engage in perpetual war with arabs and kill godly muslims who wish them no harm. I wished death to any American who participated in Desert Storm 2 or any other inappropriate killing, and rannted on like a lunitic....great fun. They have not called back.
