The caller ID had Dallas Morning News. So I answered the phone
& the caller just laughted & laughted. It was a girl. I kept
saying "Hello" & she kept laughing.I hung up.

Mine came from 970-482-1410 and starts off with static and then says "this call has been placed on behalf of your local newspaper if you have any questions regarding this call please call us at 866 THE PAPER...thank you." and then a bunch of static. I started getting the calls on 18 Jan 11 and already looked at this blog so I put it in my "Telemarketing" Contact and pushed it to VM this AM when I got the recording. I've been on the DNC Registry since it began.

Calls from 240-210-7805; probably because I have not renewed my Dallas Morning News subscription. No one answers when I answer the phone.

multiple calls that fill up my call log. No response when I called back to request being added to do-not-call list, or I was placed on hold indefinitely.

Just received a call from the 240-210-7085. Came in unknown name. Want me to pay for my Dallas Morning News home delivery with them. They said I would receive a 15% of if I gave them a credit card. I told them the bill had already been paid but they said they had not received it. You need to never give any credit card information to anyone that you did not make to call to.

I just contacted the owners of the number and left the following emails:
Andy Orr - President: (970) 372-0490
Michael Thompson - Director of Operations: (970) 372-6213
Scott Stewart - Database & List Management: (970) 372-0497

Chris Goad - Call Center Manager: (970) 372-0498
Your name: DONOT CALL
Your email address: nottellingya@nunya.biz
Your phone number: ***-***-****
Your inquiry:
I am on the National Do Not Call List and the Texas No Call List. As your company is violating both, multiple times a day, I am informing you that after I press charges, your company will be fined $10,000 for each of the National DNC violations & $6,000 for each Texas DNC violation. As I a getting a minimum of 3 calls per day, this will be at least $48,000 per day. To date, that is $720,000. Is it worth it?
I hope they take it seriously as I AM!

Have received 7 calls from 240-210-7085 in the past 4 days. Tired of it. If newspapers think this is a way to get subscribers, they are sadly mistaken. I don't subscribe or take solicitation calls from ANYONE. Save your nickel.

Received a today July 16, 2009 at 10:55am. Missed call but static and background voices were left on my message center similar to what another response to this site indicated. Who are these idiots.

Scam artist trying to get you to give him a credit card number to lower your news paper delivery cost.

Received several calls with caller ID showing "Dallas Mng News," which I ignored at first. The Dallas Morning News went up $9.00 a month in one fell swoop, so I negotiated a promotional rate and am waiting for a corrected bill before I pay. I did call the number back and it was one of those boiler room operations calling people about their subscriptions.

For the past three or four evenings, during dinner hour, we get a call from the above number, Caller I.D. states Dallas Morning News. This is strange since it is not the correct area code for Dallas, which is 214. They do not leave a message and we do subscribe to this paper. I would think IF this call is legitimate they would indeed leave a message to return their call. After reading the above complaints I find this very suspicious.

I answered once and the lady asked if I was enjoying my Dallas Morning Newspaper. I have never received or subscribed to the paper. I let the lady know she had the wrong number, she said she would remove it but I still get two to three calls a day from this number. I now just ignore them.

Ditto... constant automated call, no message, pain in the rear.
Don't know if this will work or not but I went to this site (http://www.circulationservices.com/contact.shtml) and sent an email to each of the contacts listed asking them to stop calling my cell phone...wish me luck!

I have been receiving a call per day, sometimes two, for about 3 weeks now. I live in Dallas, Texas and I was sucked into a 4 week "Dallas Morning News" paper subscription. The subscription renews itself for "customer convienence." I am assuming that this number calls me in reference to the fact that I haven't paid the new subscription fees. This happened to my college roommate as well, in another city, different number, different paper, just last year.

I've been receiving multiple calls daily from 240-210-7085. After reading the posts on this site, I did some searching and found that "866thepaper" appears to be associated with circulationdirect.com. This site appears to be linked to press-1.com. Looks like they provide services to newspapers, such as obtaining new subcribers, retaining existing subscribers, etc. My newspaper subscription recently ran out, which is probably why I'm receiving the calls.
Here's a quote from their site.
1-866-THE-PAPER:
The new telemarketing regulations require that we provide caller ID information and leave voice messages with households whose calls we can't take (dropped calls). We provide the "easy to remember" 1-866-THE-PAPER" so that when the curious call back, we can provide them with your best subscription offer or even a free, two-week sample! It works almost every time!!!

Received this call several times over the past several days. Latest was Sunday morning 9:48AM CST. They never leave any message. When I called back I received a message "866The Paper". Also the greeting stated that "our office is now closed" . Apparently their office is closed in order to avoid getting the type of annoying phone calls after hours and on weekends that they themselves make.

This moron called at 7:50 p.m.,( during the national college football championship game). After a dull "hullo", I responded that she only needed to remember 4 words-"DO NOT CALL REGISTRY!!!;Then I hung up. If this is an attempt to sell newspapers, it is obviously another example that the newspaper business is in it's "Death Throes"

240-210-7085 is a southwestern bell mobile cell. Found this info on yahoo and google search. Main location Waldorf MD This number calls multiple times each day,a.m./p.m. and Sunday. Leaves no message. Caller I.D. prints out DALLAS MNG NEWS. Is this harrassing call originating from your local newspaper delivery who sold your number? One of the posts indicate they answer 866thepaper. Did this company buy up the list of subscribers from all local papers across the nation and now harrasses the subscriber? Your phone number is tagged to your account with newspaper service. The phone companies need to allow us to block out long distance numbers. I have call block but it will not block a long distance number, the phone company wants the revenue from the long distance calls.

Call every night for no reason and will leave long voicemails of nothing but static. Usually at 4pm or 7pm at night they call. Last call was 12/22/08 at 7pm. Called back and got a customer service guy that didn't give his name and I told him I was on the donotcall registry
| swticked 2008-12-21 03:51:57 Unknown |
Called at 8:25 PM on 12/20/08. Upon answering, the other end immediately disconnected. Called the number right back and got this message:
"Thank you for calling 866thepaper. Our offices are closed at this time. If you would like to leave your name and phone number, please press 1 now and someone will call you back within 24 hours. If not, please call us during our normal business hours. Thank you for calling."
Looked up the website, "866thepaper.com" and the domain expired on 8/20/08. More than likely a collection agency using this phone number.
