FYI about the Missouri no call list and Charitable Organizations.  It is legal for them to call ONLY if they are a bona-fide member of the organization...that means no hired telemarketers or robo-dialers.  So these calls are not legal and can be reported on the Missouri no call website. The companies can be fined.

The national pandemic of telephone terrorism perpetrated by desperate criminal collection agencies is because they are trying to terrorize people who are naive enough to answer and submit to unsolicited telephone calls or written "collection" letters that have no legitimate legal debt associated with them or any of the companies, universities, or whomever else they claim to represent. Because most "little guys" were bankrupted by the criminal Wall St/Congress/Big Oil/Big Bankers/Big Business/Military/Robber Barons, so the desperate collection agencies are attempting to collect unpaid debts from innocent people by terrorizing them into submission.

Word of advice. NEVER answer any calls you don't recognize or are not expecting. Use selective call rejection service if available, or switch to an Internet-based telephone service which provides comprehensive call rejection options. If rogue calls become chronic, turn off all the ringers on all of your phones except one, and set its volume to the minimum setting. If you don't answer the call and the caller is legitimate, they will usually leave a voicemail after the first or second try. Rogue callers never leave voicemail messages because that could be used as evidence against them if it came to a lawsuit. If you receive a rogue letter in the mail warning you of some "collection" action against you, if you don't actually owe it, reply with a short letter stating that you don't owe it. Or if you do owe all or part of it, reply with something like "You claim I owe you a debt. Under §809 FDCPA, I request validation of this debt."

Only give them your name as THEY have written it to you (e.g. ?John Doe? not ?Jonathon Q. Doe? or however you normally sign your own name), address, and the account number they report. But if you do not owe the debt (zombie debt, aged debt, mistaken or stolen identity, forgery, etc.) state that you have never done any business with them or with the (alleged) original creditor of any kind and you expect the collection agency to close the matter, stop harassing you and take any bad credit marks they've caused off of your credit rating, and furthermore, that any further contact from them must be in writing on their official business correspondence letterhead. Send your letter to them a.s.a.p., always within thirty days, first class certified mail return receipt requested. If they refuse it and you get the letter back unopened, leave it unopened and save it in your files as evidence against them should they pursue legal action against you. If they did receive it and continue to pursue action against you, let them. The judge will throw it out of court. If the rogue collection agency sells your account to another rogue collection agency just tell them the claim has been proven invalid and offer to send them a copy of your letter to the previous rogue collection agency.

Warn all your friends about this rash of desperate collection agency terrorism, and how to combat it. Knowledge is power. The more you learn how to combat rogue collection agencies, back-taxes scammers, phishing scammers, "faith and family" scammers, political action committees and other low-life flimflammers, the more you will learn how easy it is to do.

Above all, keep a record of everything, of every rogue call w/ caller ID information displayed including time and date of each call. Maintain a complete file on any snail-mailed intimidation from rogue collection agencies, including copies of all correspondences and postal receipts. Reporting rogue calls on sites like 800notes.com, whocallsme.com, phoneowner.info is a great idea too, because many people find these sites by googling for the rogue number(s) after receiving calls from them.

A good way to make them mad is to pick up the phone for a couple seconds and then hang up.
This they will have to pay for the call (unless its an 800 number).  I am generous to my charities when
I know who they are and they really are charities.  Never send money to telemarketers.  If anything, they might 10% for the charity and 90% for their "expensers"  I send money to local charities I know.

Please note that this number is among many used by the scam group called "MOD."  Some of the other numbers are:

914-740-1892
914-740-1896
571-261-0134
804-234-9034
240-210-7121
410-202-0116
These people start calling from 8:00 in the morning and don't stop until almost 10 p.m. They call on Sundays. In fact, I just got a call from the "240" number. I have started to unplug my phone so they will stop calling me. All the numbers above are from my caller ID for the last few days only when my phone was plugged in. Some people who posted here thought that MOD was the "March of Dimes." In fact, I think that if you answer the call (I never do, and they just hang up,) they will tell you that they are, indeed, the March of Dimes. When a person complained to them about the number of calls, the person said that non-profit organizations are exempt from "do no call" lists. All of this is lies. Some posters lashed out at the poor March of Dimes, but it is not them. Respectable non-profit organizations like the March of Dimes never stoop so low as to make harassing phone calls; that would make people not want to donate. A fellow on this site tracked down MOD, and it is a website for who knows what. The problem is, I don't know what we can do about it. If you have any ideas, will you please post them? I am still getting the calls. I've sent these numbers to all the people on my email lists to warn them. Maybe all of us who have been bothered by these calls can do the same.

Get calls 2x per day from "MOD" using two different numbers:  804-234-9034 and 240-210-7121.  Has happened for about three weeks.  They never leave a message (which I'd think that a bona fide charity looking for volunteers, etc. would leave a message).

Infocision Telemarketing can be reached at 1-800-658-6674.

When they waste my time, I waste their time. I first get the manager on the phone, then I tell them that they've been calling me after I've been put on the Do Not Call List and after I've repeatedly asked them not to call me. I then tell the person I'm recording the call and I ask to put them on hold as I get my attorney on the phone. I then put the phone on mute and go make myself a sandwich, watch TV, or whatever. Periodically I check in with them and ask them to hold for just a bit longer.

After a good long while I beg their forgiveness for wasting their time, because I don't have the ability to conference in my attorney. Silly me, I just keep forgetting that.

I, too, have been getting calls from the following numbers: 914-740-1892, 914-740-1896, 410-202-0116, 240-210-7121 all numbers identified as MOD. The President of March of Dimes is Dr. Jennifer Howse. She makes over $600,000 per year. (Guess she needs Christmas money). One of the numbers where she is located is 212-353-8353. Another, 914-428-7100.  However, the number for the telemarketing firm, Infocision Telemarketing is 1-800-658-6674. The supervisor there is a Dan Nettinger - why not call him and voice your opinion about all the unwanted harrasssing calls. Report them to your State Attorney General and any other law enforcement agency as well as the FCC. Good luck everyone!

The MOD has called 11 times in the past week. I finally answered and told them I could not send out donation mailers to neighbors. Now they call and ask to speak to my husband.
Is there no end to the insanity of " charitable donations" phone calls?

This is March of Dimes.  MOD is sneaky.  They call from different numbers.  You report their harassment from one number and they start calling you from another.  How unprofessional.  They have really turned me off from ever donating to them.

I've been keeping track of unknown calls.  So far, I have received calls from MOD/the March of Dimes from 6 different numbers:  240-210-7121, 914-368-2553, 914-740-1895, 914-740-1896 & 914-984-2931.  I do not answer them and don't want to waste a call asking them to remove my number from their call list because they will probably ignore it.  Until they close the loophole in the Do Not Call rules, I'm afraid we'll have to put up with these annoying calls from non-profits and political organizations.  Life is too short to let this bother/interrupt our lives.
