The first number that called me was 240-235-4110 and left a voicemail.  I picked up and she referred me to number 240-235-0634 and reference a case number.

An Investigator Byrick called in regards to a debt which I owed for ATT Wireless for $1000 plus.  I never use Cingular or ATT Wireless and they would not send me any documentation stating that I did, in fact, owe them this money.  Also, another odd thing is that he did not have an account number for ATT Wireless to give me so I may call them and check with them myself.  He also stated that if I did not decide one of two payment options by 8:30 PM, they would be forced to submit the paperwork to have the lawsuit go forward.

I called ATT Wireless and they confirmed (through a social security number search) that I did not have an outstanding balance, nor did I even have an account with them (EVER).  I would be very careful if you receive a phone call from these people; these morons are scammers.

Came home from work and heard a message from someone claiming to be Investigator Laura or Lauren Jones saying my husband was being named as a respondent in an affidavit in a civil and criminal allegation and that he must appear in court; she gave an affidavit number.  My husband has recently suffered a concussion and did not even know the call had come because he was in bed asleep.  We have had false accusations put against us by his ex-wife so I naturally thought this was something she had done.  Stupid me called them back and left a message -- thank goodness I didn't give them any information, just told them I had received the message and was returning the call for my husband.  THEN I decided to look up the phone number on the Internet and found what others are saying about someone from this number calling them as well.  Should have had the smarts to look up the number first.  I hope and pray my stupidity doesn't cause us trouble.

These scammers called my grandparents, in-laws, and parents today.  They stated that they were calling in reference to a civil lawsuit for uncollected debt and that there was a criminal charge for attempting to defraud a financial institution.  Of course I was worried and called them back.  They wouldn't give me any specifics and just wanted my personal information.  They claimed I could accept the court service or go into mitigation.  I called them back again after finding my paperwork proving that I had paid the debt.  They said I would still have to go to court because I probably paid a collection agency that didn't represent the credit card company.  I called the credit card company and they have no idea who these people are.  I've done further research and found out this is a complete fraud job.  Tell them they are not to call you or your family and that you are reporting them to the proper authorities.  Hopefully they will leave you alone.

Called and ask for my husbands brother. I looked the number up on google and found out it is a scam. 235-0634. They called back I picked up the phone and hung it up. They called again right after that. And asked the same thing. I asked him what his name was and he said Dan Yaager. Geez that really makes me mad. How many times do they have to call? They called again before I even can write this message.

This place just called my number and stated that they wanted to talk to a family member who does not live here. I told them she did not live here, but they said to tell her that she was with attorneys who were going to prosecute for malicious attempt and fraud of an financial company. she left the number 240-235-0634 and she was Alex mond something. couldn't understand the last name. I told her not to call here again because this person does not live with me. She said she could call anytime. I told her the law states that she can not call me and that I was going to file harassment charges against her. The idiot hung up on me. How rude.

sometimes when your account is delinquent for too long, the orig creditor (at&t)sells your acct to another agency and deletes you from their record, your bill then becomes the responsibility of the collecting agency, that would explain why they had no record of you, as for your debt it is your responsibility to either pay it off or fight it in court if you feel its really not yours.  its true, creditors can take you to court for past due bills...crazy as it may seem, it is considered theft if you do not pay back money borrowed.

I just received a call from an unknown person who said he was delivering a message to me from the district court.  He gave me a case number CBA2396, and said that I should call the investigator at phone number 240-235-0634.  That the investigator would give ma all the information I needed in this case.  I asked if this civil action was against me, and they responded by stating is this Kenneth Lambert?  I said yes.  Then they said the civil action was against me and that he could give no more details, but I could find out if I called the above number.

They're a bunch of crooks --  They go by a variety of names and phone numbers -- some of the names they use include Global Asset Investigations, Worldwide Recovery Services, Worldwide Asset Investigation Services and North American Asset Investigation Bureau (NAAIB). Last year they were operating out of Cleveland, OH, until they were shut down -- the Cleveland BBB named them as one of the top ten scams of 2007: http://cleveland.bbb.org/WWWRoot/SitePage.asp ... b91931&art=1377
You can get more info here: http://www.budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/NAAIB.htm.
They will probably continue using this MD number until they get shut down again, then start using a new area code, but the MO is always the same: they call and identify themselves in a way that implies they are either working for a lawyer, the court system, or the police department (all of these misleading statements are illegal); tell you that there has been a civil case filed against you, they give you a case number, and tell you that you must contact them before a warrant is sworn out against you. When you contact them, they tell you that they are investigating a debt that is 10, 12, 15 or so years old; they'll name some bank you've never heard of, or a credit card you've never heard of. They'll have just enough information about you to make you nervous and they'll be phishing to find out more information. They'll tell you that the debt is some ridiculous amount -- let's say $10,200 for an example -- but if you're willing to pay today, they'll reduce it to, for example, $650. But they can't give you an address. Instead, they will ask for your bank account or credit card number. They'll tell you that if you don't settle on the phone with them that moment, a sheriff will appear at your door within 48 hours to arrest you. NONE OF THIS IS TRUE. Complaints have been filed to the AG of OH, MD, TX, NY, and IL, as well as to the FTC, FCC, and the FBI (as they are trying to illegally extort money over the phone). They often target the elderly and infirm. Do not speak with them, and save whatever messages they leave on your phone. If you get a phone call, file a complaint online with the following organizations:
http://www.oag.state.md.us/Consumer/complaint.htm
https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en
http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm
as well as the Attorney General of your own state. Remember: whether the debt is yours or not, you should not be dealing with these people. They are not a legitimate organization.

PLEASE -- file a report. You were smart and savvy enough to do research on this number; not everyone is that lucky. REPORT THEM!!!

Ugh. What a classy organization. From what I can tell by reading other threads on these people, mentioning that you've read about them on the Internet really pushes them over the edge -- so if you get a call from them in the future, be sure you inform them you've read ALL about them on the Internet!

I was called by this number (showed on caller ID) 240-235-0634 and a Scott Bauman left message.  When I called the same number back I got Veronica Gerald.  They said I owed a JC Penny account.  I don't have a JC Penny account.  This is definately a scam.  Hopefully I can get the FBI involved..........They did state in the original message that I would be getting a warrant and subpeona

The old "investigator" schtick ...

Of course, no debt collector has the authority to have anyone arrested for anything. And it's illegal for them to threaten otherwise. It's also illegal for anyone -- including debt collectors -- to impersonate law enforcement officials or officers of the court.

These dolts are obviously grifters. Legit debt collectors trying to collect a valid debt don't have to resort to such illegal behavior.

At the very least, you should consider availing yourself of these recourses:

1) File a complaint online with the Federal Trade Commission at https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01

2) File a complaint with your state's attorney general. The contact information for each state's attorney general is at www.naag.org  Just scroll down to the national map graphic and click on your state.

3) Check out these websites for more information on protecting yourself against outlaw debt collectors and, if need be, suing them:

Consumer Credit Advocate Bud Hibbs - http://www.budhibbs.com/First.htm
