I received a call from a man whose name was supposedly Arthur Abel or Abram. He left me a message stating that I was "in contempt for a deposition?  He said that he was calling on behalf of checks services and left a number to call back (877) 669-0522.  I called and a woman answered the phone. I stated that someone named Arthur Abel left me a message to call him at this number. I asked her what this was all about.  She asked me for my case # which I did not give.  I told her that he said he was calling on behalf of check services and I asked her exactly what is checks services?  She asked again for my case number & I again told her that I did not have it. She told me to pull the number and call back. She then abruptly hung up on me.

I called the number back again and this time I got a new woman. I told her that someone called me and left me a message to call back. She asked me for my name; I asked her for hers...she said "have a nice day" and hung up on me.

I called the number back a 3rd time and got yet another woman.  I asked to speak to Arthur Able or Abram directly.  She told me that he was in a meeting. I said "sure he is...and what is your name?"  She hung up on me.  I am with the rest of the posts...no reputable business would ever hang up on a person once let alone all 3 times.

Good for you! Also report them to your states Attorney General. Also if you look at the FBI site there are warnings about these scamming companies. NEVER admit you have this debt! If you admit or make a partial payment iIt will start the statute of limition time back to day 1.

P.S. I had a call like this from a different company. I contacted that payday loan company and they told me I have never taken out a loan with them. The scam includes even if you just looked into a payday loan or applied online but decided against it and never received any funds they will still accuse you of owing hundreds, even thoiusands. This is a total scam, nuisance and ILLEGAL. By law they are not allowed to tell you are being arrested for a bad check. YOU CANNOT AND WILL NOT GET ARRESTED FOR A BAD CHECK! Only sent to small claims court nor do you get any warnings you will be served with court papers if its legit. Educate yourselves on your rights or else these evil, selfish people will keep taking advantage of the innocent & naive.

received a call from this number today is the second time this week that my husband and I have received a call like this, saying my husband add money for a payday loan back in 2009 for a payday loan that we had no idea where and when it was done, today I received another phone call from the above number 240 ,stating that I needed to return the call as soon as possible before the end of the day regarding an urgent matter after looking this up it was the same scam that my husband and I ran into earlier in the week, I reported this to my local authorities with phone numbers cell phone numbers toll free numbers and also a Bank of America account number which I verified through Bank of America the cell phone number was coming up from Wadesboro North Carolina, the authoritiesnow have the following is information and it has been passed on to the investigator in our County District to be followed up on. I have saved both messages from these people, this is getting very old and eventually maybe our government will pay attention to what is going on in the lives as the American people that they so called care about. Please if anyone knows of anyone else that we could contact and give this information to please let me know I have saved these messages. I do not intend on calling this lady back as I have learned when I do not recognize a number I will not answer it !!!by the way just to let others know they will threaten at times that they will come and arrest you within 48 hours and they also threatened to suspend my husbands CDL license which we found out from our local deputy that warrants or arrest are never made or taken out for a payday loan.  I do hope this helped someone who has received a phone call from these people within the last several days that again if anyone knows anyone else that I need to contact please let me know I want to catch these people and stop them from the abusive and nerve wracking scheme they are trying to pull on innocent law abiding citizens although they apparently fit neither of these categories.

This number called my cellphone which I have only had 3 months, stating they were attempting to reach me.  Stated I was now in contempt because I had "refused to contact them" about a "bad check".  Stated I had to call an 877 number and give a reference number to make arrangements for payment or face further charges..  IT IS A BOGUS SCARE TACTIC.

I just got a call from these guys and when I answered there was an automated message telling me that because I failed to respond to them and their deposition, that I would face charges. I knew it was a scam and hung up because I've received no notice about this in the mail and don't owe anything to any debt collector. The number they called from was 240-247-1564.

Another version of the Payday Loan Scam: Don't give them info, don't agree to anything, don't believe their threats (seriously, they're trying to scare you into doing something you don't have to do), and report them to the FBI. If you give them money, you'll never see it again and it won't go toward any debts.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C. December 07, 2010

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.

If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller?s instructions. Rather, you should:

  Notify your banking institutions.
Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
  File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.

Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:

Never give your Social Security number?or personal information of any kind?over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements

I received a call today from this number and was advised to call a 877 number back and given a reference number. The number was a bad number so I called what appeared on my caller ID. First call I was put on hold after they told me all my personal info and then they hung up. I continued to call back and was transferred to a "Investigator Steven Adams" who advised me that a warrant was being issued you for me and he told me numerous different charges. When I asked who filed the complaint, who issued the warrant and out of what county ( My employment sure helped to confuse this guy). He hung up on me. I continued to call back numerous times and each time they stated a different company name. Eventually they became mad that I continued to call. But hey if they can call me and be rude and threaten me I want to make sure the incriminate themselves enough. then I call them back and I told them I don't know this person and they told me ye I do I ask them no to call me or my work number I don't know how these people get my infor

They keep calling and saying I'm going to be served papers so tonight I asked them when because I've been getting this call now for over a year.  I refuse each time to verify any information so they hang up on me and just continue to call back.  Further more, and I have a recording when I called them back and asked when would I be served, they started getting smart with me saying that I probably couldn't afford a lawyer then hung up.  I decided to call them the way they call me, so when I called back I was told I probably don't have a job and that's why I needed a payday loan in the first place.  One person even asked me if I watched Basketball Wives or Love & Hip Hop, I said I don't like those types of shows to which they said I'm probably to fat to know how to dress and then hung up again.  I continuously called them for about a half hour till I got tired of recording and listening to what they had to say...the last one told me that I'm now harassing them and any judge that heard the recordings would say that too me and if I had a lawyer he would have informed me of that.  I replied to her it became a good case once ya'll started insulting me to say what I have and once the man told me that frank and beans and vienna sausage was not considered a dinner.  At this point I'm tired of them harassing me for something I know nothing about.

I got the same phone call with the same threats. I have never had a payday loan or written a bad check. I lost my job over a year ago and haven't been able to pay my student loans and am now defaulting. My question is, are they just threatening me with filing a warrant or can they actually issue one?

I received a call from this company also.  They told me I owed $736 dollars for a payday loan from 2004.  Then the guy told me that there was a warrant out for my arrest and that I had to go turn myself into the sheriffs station or pay him the money now and they would pull the warrant.  I told him that was b***s***.  I told him to send me something in writing and he got mad at me.  Today I received a call again from them, it was a women this time and now I only owe them $530.  She told me it was a civil case, so I asked her to send me paperwork because of the call from her co-worker, she told me that she was trying to help me, that when I hung up and looked up the phone number.

I received a call from these jack***es earlier today, disinterested let the answering machine pick up, but I am very familiar with their type of scam.  You idiots I work as in the law enforcement field and you ,first of all are not an investigator, secondly you have no authority to issue any warrants and you your debts are most likely not even valid.   I cannot believe that these people still think we are going to fall for these scams.  Great job on calling these guys out.  I reported these guys to the FTC and suggest that anyone else who receives a call from these morons do the same.  You can keep calling but all you're going to do is continue to dig yourself deeper and deeper into the hole you're fake company is already in.

I received the same phone call today  When I got off of work there was a voice mail on my cell stating I need to call back.  I called the number back and the man that answered the phone said, I am the secretary I can not talk to you about this matter.  He stated that he has to put me on hold to transfer me to an investigator. The man that came to the phone said my name is Investigator Don Mac and I am calling to a credit card fraud you have with capital one and visa credit corp in Feb 2003. I need you to listen and then you may ask questions when I am done.  He said I pay 800 of the 1300  I owe today or 1300 plus court cost.  I asked the representative if this is true could he fax me, mail, or email me something.  He stated that the judge said he has been trying to reach me and they have been out to my place several times but no response.  He said this is the final time and because it is the final attempt we can not send anything until you pay and then we will send you all the information.  I told him I could not pay now but my payday is on the first of the month and I can pay 800 then.  He said you need to pay now or there is going to be a warrant out on you and this is also going to go on your record.  He said if I pay the 800 today all charges will be dropped. I told him I could pay half today but I needed to go the bank.  He said ok call me back within the hour.  During that hour I was sick to my stomach.  My mind just told me to look the name and telephone number up on the internet and I ended up on this page.  Thank the Lord because they almost got me.  He also told me he was located in Washington DC.  The telephone he called from was a 773 number which is in Chicago.  773  527 7250.  He said you can call me back at 217 641 2512 ext.  308.  I am so happy GOD put search in my mind before I just give my hard earned money away.

I received a call from a woman who stated that she works for Check Services and wanted me to verify the last four of my social. I stated to her that I will not verify anything until she tells me what it was about. She states it was in reference to Bank of America payday loan. She knew my number anyway and started getting nasty with me on the phone. I hung up on her. I had an account with Bank of America but closed it because of an issue with a payday loan. I paid off the amount to Bank of America via another company and received a letter of settlement. This other company tried to extort money from me stating that they will issue a warrant for my arrest for check fraud. She tried calling me back from a blocked number and left a message stating that the message is for HR and that they need to verify my employment and that it is very important for them to call back. They wanted to serve me papers at my place of employment and garnish my wages. I called back and asked for a supervisor. When I spoke to the supervisor I stated to him that I want the harassing phone calls to stop. He asked for my number and stated, it is taken care of. Let's see if that is true.....

keep receiving calls on my cell phone from this number & I decided to finally answer the call today. A woman asked for me but DIDN'T identify the company she was calling from which made me suspicious. I asked her what the call was regarding & she asked me who I was. I told her who I was & asked again what was this regarding. She said it was about check fraud. That I owed money to some payday loan place & if I didn't take care of it today they would be putting in a warrant for my arrest & would even come arrest me @ my place of employment. At this point the woman was being very rude, & trying to intimidate me. In the end I told her I wanted some legal documentation about this matter & if in fact it were true then I would be going to court & not receiving a call. She threatened me saying that a warrant was being put in & I could just go to jail & hung up on me. I called the number back to see the company name & they answered Check Service how may I direct your call.

I recieved a call from this number claiming to be Check Cashing Services of America. They claimed they had filed Felony Fraud charges for a check that I had supposedly written to a check cashing service back in 2005. They claimed that if I didn't pay them today I would be arrested tomorrow. My fiance offered to pay the amount they claimed I owed if they could fax us proof; they then said that they would no longer accept payment that I would have to turn myself in to local law enforcement. When I checked with the county that they claimed they had filed charges, nothing was found (no warrant, no charges). From the information I have gathered this is a scam.

This number called me today and said they were Check Cashing Services of America trying to collect a debt for a check that I supposedly wrote back in 2005 to a check cashing place. They claim that if I do not pay them half of the money I owed today I would go to jail for felony fraud charges. They claimed all of the information was already at the Hart County courthouse and that there was a warrant for my arrest. I left the house and went to the courthouse, no charges have been filed. I checked with the Sheriffs Department, they do not have a warrant on file. I even went to the county attorney's office, they have no record of charges being filed either.
Please, if you recieve a call from this number, DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY, they are trying to scam you.
