Unfortunately this practice is referred to as "sugging", selling under the guise of research, and includes build a database of sales leads by representing yourself as a researcher. What the company is doing is unethical according to the Direct Marketing Association, the Market Research Association, and the Association for Qualitative Research. It makes people skeptical even when there's a legitimate market researcher collecting information.

Went to VM but did not record due to "poor call quality". Waste of my time.

I got 8 calls from this number in a span of 3 minutes! I didn't answer because I was in a meeting with my boss, but needless to say, if they call again it'll be an interesting conversation.

These RocketScientists called me this morning at 6:18 am. I don't know who they expected to talk to at that time of day, but it wasn't anyone here.

Get a real job... bey you can't!
conscientious objecter 2012-02-08 19:08:32 Unknown
A real conscience disqualifies someone from this kind of so-called "work". That leaves the sociopaths to take care of stealing money on the phone. If you have a mirror handy, you can take a look at one of them.

Sounds like you were not productive at work and were given walking papers....... sour grapes perhaps?
really? 2012-02-08 19:01:05 Unknown
So you give out a personal number of a person from a company who called you at work number from their work number... really??? so if they posted your personal number would you call foul????
If you don't want calls at work ... join the occupy wall street movement....

This number belongs to a shady company called RainKing (www.rainkingonline.com). The CEO's name is Bill Kapner
I recommend that you email him and call his personal cell phone:
email: bkapner@rainkingonline.com
cell: 301-792-5395
My company is getting a dozen cold calls a week about a non-existent project and his s****y company (rainkingonline.com) won't remove us from their system.

don't call his personal mailbox to complain, email him and call his personal cell phone:

Just got a call and let it go to VM. They did not leave a message. I guess if you answer, you will be placed in a marketing database for IT and will be cold called by clueless salesmen hawking the latest IT snake oil. The caller ID said "Wireless Caller". It was RainKing.
It Sup 2011-12-28 17:36:42 Unknown
Got two messages with no VM. I am in IT as well.

I love all the postings from RK employees on here. They are trying to save their image. I worked there and they are not legitimate and do not provide a great service. It was a total embarrassment working there, and the research department was managed very badly. Employees are treated like garbage and the service is basically linkedin and jigsaw mixed together. If you want to pay for that level of info that you can get for cheaper/free go ahead. My advice is sign with Discoverorg, much smarter company.

It's RainkingOnline.com or RainKing. They are an IT research company preteding to be journalists.
cleveland45 2011-06-06 20:44:06 Unknown
This company is an absolute joke. I work in IT for one of the largest manufacturers in the world and these guys hammered my whole department with phone calls within a 20min span. They were claiming they were from LinkedIn and even went so far to say they were journalists... My guess is that's breaking the law?
Its unfortunate they completely lie to their customers about how they get their data. Hopefully they get shut down soon. Stay away from these jokers. Who knows what kind of information they'll give you that you probably shouldn't be in possession of.

Matt 2011-06-06 20:44:06 Unknown
Got a call from this number, went to voice mail, no message.
RD_3270 2011-06-06 20:44:06 Unknown
Yep..RainKing. They lie and tactics are questionable. Would not recommend doing business with these guys.

Between Wednesday, 22Oct08 and Thursday, 23Oct08, this number called me 7 times.
Being on vacation, I wasn't here to take the call, but having to sift through 7 nearly non-existent voicemail entries was annoying enough.

I use rainkingonline.com, and I find the service amazing. It's a view of the IT departments of various US and European companies.
We use it to prepare our sales guys for meetings with technology firms and it's a really useful tool. Obviously it takes a lot of research and b2b calls to gather the information, but the company itself is 100% legit, and in my opinion provides a great service.

They just called me and told me they were from the DEA and that they were arresting me for buying drugs on the internet, which never happened, and if i pay them a fine they won't arrest me.

The term solicitation is used in a variety of legal contexts, I'm not sure the act of calling someone to ask a questions and the act of calling to sell something or ask for money are quite the same. I suggest you sue and get the courts to determine the exact use of the terminology

i worked there a while back. it's a terrible place to work. salary/benefits are great (especially if you're right out of school), but the work itself is really boring, and yeah, you're basically employd to try and get IT people to tell you what's going on at there companies. they want you to give them information on projects so that rainking can sell it to their IT firm clientele.
FWIW, they treat the regular employees like s***. Small perks (free bagel fridays) to compensate for the real crapstorm - firing the lowest producing employee roughly once every three months, management sending almost daily reminders of the company's metrics system, etc. I feel bad for anyone who still works there.
YNotBaron 2010-07-17 11:34:37 Unknown
I worked for this organization when they were Bigdough. Kapner and his crew are sycophantic clowns
Morris Peterson 2010-07-06 00:56:52 Telemarketer
I worked there for a while/ The goal is to get every scrap of information they can about you, so they can sell it to people who want to sell you IT products and services. The work was awful....most people were polite but some really got up set. They raise the expectations until they are almost unreachable. Almost everyone doing this job hates it. The work is exhausting and more than a little thankless. They also fire people at the drop of a hat with no regard to loyalty or even performance. They fired one guy after two months, so the owner could hire his friend. And this guy was married with children.
