Received a comment from a woman claiming to be a detective, and wanted to know about my neighbor in the building next door, saying he was the subject of a possible criminal investigation. I told her that I live in an apartment building, and I do not know the people on my floor, let alone on my street.

My retired Mother in NC received a message for my adult sister, Sue, who lives in another State, stating:  "This is Investigator LeBraun.  Sue must call me immediately regarding a civil matter that the County is bringing Court Proceedings on.  Greg is listed as a secondary contact.  Either Sue or your attorney are to contact Investigator Lebraun regarding Affidavit # JJJJJJJJJ.  Greg may also have to appear."

I have received two calls from this number about my neighbor.  The first was from a man saying he was authorized to do this because it was considered a criminal matter and he could call me because I lived near the person he was trying to reach.  I took the info from him and gave it to my neighbor.  I received another call today from some woman saying she was the lead investigator and I told her to remove my number from any listing and to NEVER call me again and that I had worked in the judicial system for six years and I knew what she was doing was not legal.

Received a call at MY OFFICE,  the caller bypassed by personal voice mail box to leave the following message with our RECEPTIONIST:  Violet Duboise 240.696.1777; calling regarding my EX HUSBAND who was involved in a CIVIL LAWSUIT regarding fraud.  I called back told her I couldn't believe she would call MY OFFICE and leave such negative information regarding anything at SOMEONES WORK;  she asked if I had any contact with my EX HUSBAND and I said NO (I have been divorced since 1995) she said if I had contact she could give me the details of the "CIVIL LAWSUIT REGARDING FRAUD",  as if she had some sensational information to provide me...  Sometimes EXs are EXs for really good reasons.  Too bad she didn't handle herself more professionally,  maybe I could have helped her with some sensational information...  turns out she called my home,  left two messages and called my cell phone twice.  Sounds like this is a really scummy collection agency.

I received a call from this number tonight. These people are scammers. This is the third different party that has tried to extort money under false pretenses since August. The account in questioned was closed in 2005. They try and go after family memebers to get a better result. Challenge them and they will go away. Report them to the better business bureau.

These people have tried several times with me.  Once 2 months ago, and I was dumb enough to fall for it. Not wanting to have anything mess up my credit, it seems possible I could have possibly overlooked a balance. after checking my credit report and seeing everything was perfect, they called me back i told them to get a life. he told me i could call president bush for all he gave a f***.  they left me alone until yesterday, calling my JOB saying that there are 4 warrants for my arrest. HELLO DUMBASS-! owing money is a CIVIL case, not a criminal case JACK***!!! these people need to get a life. i have filed a complaint with my state attorney general and plan to keep complaining until something is done with these people. they have claimed to be "morestarr, llc" and also "litigation services" llc.
working for a lawyer or the police department or whatever they can say to scare people into believing them! do not fall for it!!!!

Do you know any pro bob lawyers who could help me out in a similar case?  I was contacted and told I had a warrant for a repossessed car in Jan.  I gave all info and then thought about it and closed my account.  Yesterday I get a call from a Mrs. Black and a sheriff officer (supposedly) in my county stating I had a warrant for check fraud because my bank account was closed out.  I'm pissed I am a single mother who works full time and goes to college full time, I dont have the time for this crap.

Said they were officially notifying me of a civil complaint case & case number against me from a bank credit card (where I've never had a card).  I called the number & the woman knew my address and part of my SS#.  When I questioned her & said I never had such a card and pressed her for the information, she yelled "well I'm just going to send you a summons to appear in court and if you don't appear you're going to jail". Then she hung up on me.
They're Scam Artists
They're Scam Artists

Glad you guys realized they were scam artists before they got any money out of you. They're a bunch of crooks --  They go by a variety of names and phone numbers -- some of the names they use include Global Asset Investigations, Worldwide Recovery Services, Worldwide Asset Investigation Services and North American Asset Investigation Bureau (NAAIB). Last year they were operating out of Cleveland, OH, until they were shut down -- the Cleveland BBB named them as one of the top ten scams of 2007: http://cleveland.bbb.org/WWWRoot/SitePage.asp ... b91931&art=1377
You can get more info here: http://www.budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/NAAIB.htm.
They will probably continue using this MD number until they get shut down again, then start using a new area code, but the MO is always the same: they call and identify themselves in a way that implies they are either working for a lawyer, the court system, or the police department (all of these misleading statements are illegal); tell you that there has been a civil case filed against you, they give you a case number, and tell you that you must contact them before a warrant is sworn out against you. When you contact them, they tell you that they are investigating a debt that is 10, 12, 15 or so years old; they'll name some bank you've never heard of, or a credit card you've never heard of. They'll have just enough information about you to make you nervous and they'll be phishing to find out more information. They'll tell you that the debt is some ridiculous amount -- let's say $10,200 for an example -- but if you're willing to pay today, they'll reduce it to, for example, $650. But they can't give you an address. Instead, they will ask for your bank account or credit card number. They'll tell you that if you don't settle on the phone with them that moment, a sheriff will appear at your door within 48 hours to arrest you. NONE OF THIS IS TRUE. Complaints have been filed to the AG of OH, MD, TX, NY, and IL, as well as to the FTC, FCC, and the FBI (as they are trying to illegally extort money over the phone). They often target the elderly and infirm. Do not speak with them, and save whatever messages they leave on your phone. If you get a phone call, file a complaint online with the following organizations:
http://www.oag.state.md.us/Consumer/complaint.htm
https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en
http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm
as well as the Attorney General of your own state. Remember: whether the debt is yours or not, you should not be dealing with these people. They are not a legitimate organization.

PLEASE -- file a report. You were smart and savvy enough to do research on this number; not everyone is that lucky. REPORT THEM!!!

I got them today. they called my fathers home and left a message claiming to be a police detective Black. I called them and they tried to deny saying the were a police detective. When I replayed the message and this "detective" black said (on tape) " This is Police Detective Black". They hung up on me. I have turned the tape over to the sheriff's department and will sign the warrant tomorrow for this "detective" black LADY! Yes I will fly to her town for court. Yes I will see this person in court on felony charges. By the way. They called my home looking for someone that I do not know. So it was not my bill. But as a person with several members in my family that are federal, local and state police officers WE found this tactic to be stupid.

It's a scam that goes by such names as MoreStar Consultancy, LLC; Litigation Consulting Service, LLC; Claims & Warrants; and North American Asset Investigation Bureau, LLC (NAAIB). For details, read consumer credit advocate Bud Hibbs' report on these scammers: http://budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/NAAIB.htm

(When I Googled this number, I noticed the name "Daniel Hoffman" popping up in several complaints here: http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/2406961715  Daniel Hoffman and Alex Dufor are fake names that always give away the identity of this scam.)

One thing it remember is that anytime someone calls you demanding money to prevent your arrest or criminal charges, it is ALWAYS a scam. No debt collector (let alone criminals posing as debt collectors) have the authority to have anyone arrested for anything. (And it's illegal to them to threaten such a thing.) These type of crooks also routinely impersonate FBI agents, police and other law enforcement officials, which, obviously, is illegal as well. (Besides, law enforcement officers aren't in the business of debt collection, and debt is a civil, not a criminal, matter.)

The bottom line is, these are criminals trying to steal your money. Ignore their illegal threats and report their attempts to extort money from you to all these federal and state law enforcement agencies:

1) The U.S. Secret Service is responsible for protecting the country's financial infrastructure and payment systems from international and domestic threats. Call or write your local Secret Service field office to alert them to the details of this attempted extortion. The addresses and phone numbers for the local Secret Service field offices are listed at http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml or in your phone book.

2) Alert the FBI at https://tips.fbi.gov  Be sure to tell the FBI that you are being targeted by extortionists over the phone and give them all the details.

3) Maryland Attorney General  http://www.oag.state.md.us/Consumer/complaint.htm  (Litigation Consulting claims to be in Maryland)

4) Your state's attorney general, the contact information for whom is at www.naag.org

5) File a complaint with your local police. Most police departments will take a report over the phone.  Be sure to tell them that you're being targeted by an extortionist and give them all the details.

7) File a complaint with  the Federal Trade Commission  https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01

If these criminals call back, tell them that they aren't getting any money from you and that you've reported their scam to federal and state law enforcement. They will react with the usual moronic, false threats.  If possible, try to save any voice messages they leave and, if legal in your state, record their calls if you speak with them. (Inexpensive phone recorders are available at Radio Shack-type stores.)

Hope this helps.

Ha, got probably the exact same message as you.  It almost seemed she was reading from a script.  Wow, even the "have a good day, and good luck" line was the same.  No imagination.  Got a similar call a little over a year ago and it turned out to be a collection agency.  Funny thing is they called my parent's home and the call was for my wife.
