Do these idiots really think I'm going to fall for their scare tactics?  This is NCO Financial trying to collect a debt (the debt is disputed because of identity theft).

They never leave a message and they have called my cell phone at least 6 times a day.  Is this legal?

HERE'S A TIP: For annoying frequent calls (ie debt collectors) to your cell phone you could save the numbers that call and assign them a unique ringer ID to ring as 'Silent'. So you'll get the call but it won't ring your phone and bother you. Then instead of getting annoyed or frustrated you can just laugh. Sure it seems they call from a million numbers but after a week or two you'll have them all saved and silenced. (ps. I ran into an old Nokia phone with no Silent setting so possibly you could just create your own ringtone with just of couple "pauses".)

This company called "NCO" keeps calling me from random numbers.  They are trying to really get some money from me.  I do not have an account they are referring to, yet they keep calling me.  I told them to send me a physical bill, but it is like they are dumb and they keep trying to coax me into giving them my credit card numbers or my bank account numbers.  I tell them they are out of their zip code.  All I do is just google the number, find out who it is, then save the number to my phone and finally assign it a special silent ring :)  Problem solved.

Or Newt, maybe people get tired of answering the phone, saying hello 6 times before some special needs kid on the other ends remembers their phone etiquette and responds, not with a common greeting, but with a question.

Received repeated calls from this source on Saturday, October 25, 2008.  When queried about the reason for the calls, the female making the calls could not speak English.  Ergo, I did not know why she was calling.  She repeatedly invaded my privacy on the above date, and it is time that she be prosecuted for same.  (Or, she learns how to speak English, or she goes back to the country of her birth.)

In response to "Newt" - perhaps you should show a little compassion before you pass judgment and assume that anyone not paying their bills is just avoiding their responsibility. My husband passed away 2 years ago at the young age of 27. He was still in college and his insurance policy was barely enough to cover funeral costs. I've been living on a 2 person budget with only 1 income for 2 years now... and paying a mortgage and raising my son in the process. I do my best to pay the bills but it's a tough situation that I'm in and I work up to 60 hours a week sometimes, which is not good for my son who needs his mother. If the creditors wouldn't keep hiking up interest rates and late fees, I'd be able to maintain those bills. But fall behind one day on a payment, and the interest rates go up. These companies are scam artists who have found some loop hole so they can just keep taking more and more money from the people who don't have any. And then when they force us into an impossible situation, you get comments from people like this Newt person saying "step up and pay your bills!" Step up and be a decent human and have some compassion. Try that one. For those of you in a bad situation due to unforeseen circumstances or unfair rate hikes, try a credit counseling agency. they can help get those rates lowered so you can pay off your debts and not continue to just go deeper in debt with these companies.
Newt - I hope you find a way to learn about compassion. It's a beautiful thing.

Yeah, I know I have some unpaid debt.  The other day I had a yard sale and only made $5 and that went to the power company.  I also tried to sell my kids bikes, but they are in rough shape so that didn't work.  I tried to borrow $ from my family but they know I don't have $ to pay them back so they wouldn't loan me anything.  I tried to steal someones identity and apply for a card in their name but I got caught and now I am looking at charges.  I tried to pimp out my husband but he wouldn't go for after seeing the clientelle.  Anymore questions?

I have gotten two calls from this number since eight this morning.

I have no idea who these people are.  If they are a collection agency, this is ridiculous because I have nothing outstanding that could have been turned over to such a representative.

My brother got calls from them a few weeks ago looking for me.

This is harassment.

No message on the voice mail, calls in the AM and PM. Perhaps it is NCO, they used to send letters regarding a debt for the Philadelphia Inquirer. Good luck trying to collect on that one, the subscriber died last year and I canceled his subscription promptly. Jerks.

Why do I even need a phone? If the only phone calls I get are debt collectors...? I think it's time to unplug and tune out for a while. My friends can always reach me via email. All three of them.

i have been receiving calls from this number all day today, but they leave no message.  I find it hard to believe they are a collection agency because i have no unpaid debt.  it's really starting to aggravate me, because the first call came in at 6 in the morning and are still coming in.

They have called me 9 times already today and it's only 1pm.  I settled for a lower amount with a credit card I got behind on, and this group is trying to collect the remainder.  From what I understand, they will buy settled debts and try to collect the debt.  They told me if I paid it my card would be in good standing.  I cancelled that card.  NCO Financial.  They are the worse credit collection agency.  I sent them the letter from the company I was indebted to that I have settled this debt in full, however they keep on calling!

I, too, just started receiving phone calls from this number today. No messages any of the call attempts either. It just annoyed me that my Caller ID was showing up as "Unassigned", I mean, they have the damn number so I am assuming it had to be Assigned to them from someone, right? lol
I am sure it is probably a debt collector as well considering I get at least 50 calls daily from various people. Credit card companies, debt collectors, all that sort.  After the fifth time I get a call from a specific number the phone number gets added under distinctive rings. The distinctive ring of choice? NO RING. (I actually have to leave my cordless on the charger or my phone goes dead)
