I too received a call from Matt Barrette. Same script. He was evasive on how he got my number. He said something about me posting my info on search engines (he never said which one and was clueless about my work history or education). I am a teacher with no finance experience. Said he was looking for part time and full time workers in finance and asked were my options open. I set up a meeting with him for tomorrow. Matt said it was like an orientation. I will not be attending now. Thanks for all those who posted. The number he called me from is 248-987-8854. The address of the meeting is 37600 Hill Tech Drive, Farmington Hills, MI.

Just got a call from Matt Barrett.  Very rude and evasive on how he got my name and number.  I don't have a financial background either.  What an a**.

I got a call from him earlier in the week, and he called me again today to make sure i had the directions. I'm meeting with him in the morning i have no financial background my last job was at krispy kreme as retail, most of my experience is in retail. But we'll see if this is legit or not, i have my resume up and i did give it to my friend who said her firm was hiring, i wonder if her boss gave it to him, and I'm currently unemployed so I'm kinda disparate for a job. Gonna drive almost 30 mins to get there hopefully its not a waste of time & gas. I'll post my experience when i come home tomorrow.

I'm in the same boat as Liz....just sitting around waiting for Matt to call me back.  Looks like I can stop waiting.  Thanks everyone for posting your two cents!

Just got a call today from a Matt Barrette as well. Gave me an address of 37600 Hillstech Dr, Farmington Hills, MI. Thought it was kinda weird how he didn't say how he got my resume or the name of his company. He says he is going to call me back on monday. I am so glad that I looked this up since it did seem a little sketchy. The number he gave me was 248-987-8854.
Funny that I am an engineer too.... not in financial planning at all!

I was contacted by Matt on 2/10/10.  I made an appointment to meet with him this Saturday at 9 or 9 30 am.  My father has been very ill and his illness has worsend.  I tried calling him this morning at the number he called me from to let him know that I would need to be rescheduled to meet with him about a job. I called 248 553 4502 and  a operator stated that the number was disconnected. I tried several times.  If he was looking for a hard, faithful and truthful employee, he has lost out.  Although maybe he will call me back and I can set another appointment up with him and we will both be satisfied.  God works in mysterious ways.

Have any of you actually tried what he's talking about (Primerica)? He's looking for people to work part time or full time for Primerica.  I did it for awhile ( I too am an engineer with no finance experience) just to learn about life insurance and investment vehicles (I had my Michigan Life Insurance license and Series 6 and 63 Securities licenses with the SEC to start 401k's, IRA's, and annuities.  

You don't need to have a background in Finance and it can be done in addition to the job you have.  It was too  much work for me so I only did it long enough to pay back the licensing fees and then I stopped.  

Just thought you'd all want to know what was going on here.

Received same message from 248-522-6697

Just received a call from this guy with the exact same pitch as the ones in the other posts, problem is I don't know who would bother to "pass my name on" since all my friends are not working and they should want the opertunity and with the job market here in michigan the way it is, does this guy really need to cold call when his phone should be ringing off the hook with people looking for a job. Get real. This is a scam!!!

Received a message from Matt B (last name was garbled) with the same script described above, callback 248 522-6697.
The last time I followed up on one of these calls several years ago it was Primerica Financial Services (Life insurance sales and mutual fund investments).  I am a software engineer and don't have any resume posted anywhere???  How did he get my number?
Needless to say I won't follow up on this.

Thanks so much for your information. I received a call from Matt today with the exact same script. I thought it was strange that someone gave him my phone number since only a handful of people know my unlisted phone number. I promptly cancelled the session I was supposed to have with him. Thanks again.

Matt Barrett called me today, the call back # he left on VM was 248-522-6697!

..on a similar note: I had a friend show up for a 'group overview' to become a marketer (not with this Matt fellow). They took everyone in a van and then handed them flyers to start going door to door as sales (marketing) people selling junk. She was like, "Take me back to my car or I'm calling the police!" So NEVER go to a 'marketing overview' or else they'll try to shanghi you into being a door-to-door marketer right that day. The people were dressed for an interview (high heels, suits, ties, etc.) and were angry!

248-757-0892, yep Matt Barrett. My resume is out on the Michigan Caree Builder site...a few years ago I got a similar call and answered: basically it was a pitch to work for a mortgage place (scum!). "Do you like helping people? Then be a mortgage loan officer." Yeah right.

My resume has nothing to do with economics/banking/etc.

Wow, apparently this has been going on for a while. Just got a call a few days ago from Matt Barrette. Exact same wording. I didn't bothered to call back (thanks to what I've read here). I am a computer programmer with no financial industry experience. As far as I know, my resume isn't on any search engine (though I did sign up through a headhunter agency about 8 years ago).

Curses, and I thought I would have at least one person to work in my suburban dungeon.

I just received a call from Matt Barrett from 248-757-0892. After he went through his script about my "name being passed on to him," he asked me if I was still interested?

When I asked him the name of his company he responded with, "I'll ask you again, are you interested?"

"Interested in what? How did you get this number? What do you do?"

Then he countered with, "I can see I'm barking up the wrong tree, have a good day."

After bidding me a good day, he didn't hang up immediately like a typical telemarketer, he stayed on the line.

"Sir, are you still there?"

I then told him basically to suck a "d" to which he responded with an, "ok, sir."

We got the same call, same script, 269-671-4855. My husband is an electrician, and working.

Answering machine message from Ann McBee(sp?) with exact same script.  Left the number 248-306-5361.  Called back to get a voice mail for Ann and Richard Brady.  Left no message.  

Have gotten similar calls in the past from Primerica (I believe) looking for people to work at bank branches.  Doesn't seem to matter what your background or current field of work is.

The internet is a great tool. matt Barrette called my house also , i was leary i could hear a laugh in his vice he was talking about the full time and part time positions he left a message to the t of what everyone else posted , by the way Thanks to everyone who took the time to post I also have no background in finicial area.

Same call; Whitepages.com also gives this as Michael Kidder's number, also Farmington Hills. I just want to say how GREAT it is that you guys took the trouble to post this information

I received the same call from Matt Barrette. He was very evasive as to what type of job he was looking to fill. It seems that he holds dhort "meetings" in various towns on Tuesdays and Thursdays to talk to potential employees. As mentioned by previous writers, I too am an Engineer. And as previously stated by others, Matt Barrette cold not tell me how he got my name and telephone number.

I received the same message as DJ and interestingly the exact same language was used.  Since I'm also an Engineer and I have nothing to do with Finance I'd be curious about their motives.  Not enough to call and find out though...

Had a message on answering machine from a Matt Barrett @ the above #. Message said "my name had been passed on to him as some one who might have an interest in speaking with. It mentioned that he did the hiring for his company and was filling some full time & a couple of flexible part time positions".

I talked with Matt today.  He said job had to do with financial marketing and advising.  Told him I was an engineer, had no financial training.  He said he was having a group overview session next week, to attend, see if interest was there, hit it off, etc. and that as next step financial training would be given, was available....(above paraphrased). Couldn't really get answer as to how he got my name & # or any real definitive answer than the job pertained to "marketing & advising"......
