Is this a way to get you to enter a credit card number?  When calling back, that's all they ask for (automated).  Is this a way to steal your card info, even if you do not have Advanta??  What an annoyance !

I'm assuming this is a credit card/bank/collection agency autodialer. They've already called 10 times Saturday morning 7/26/08. Since they don't have the courtesy to ID themselves or leave a message, I don't pick up the phone.

I GOT 6 CALLS AND NO MESSAGES FROM THEM YESTERDAY, SUNDAY.  SO FAR, TWO TODAY.

MY ISSUE, I DON'T HAVE A BUSINESS, A BUSINESS ACCOUNT OR A BUSINESS CARD.  I SPOKE TO THEM ONCE IN MARCH AND TOLD THEM THIS.  THEY STOPPED CALLING ME FOR A FEW WEEKS, THEN MY DAUGHTER CALLED AND TOLD ME THEY CALLED HER ON HER HUSBAND'S BUSINESS LINE.  I DON'T EVEN HAVE THAT NUMBER.  HOW DID THEY GET IT?  I ASKED THAT QUESTION AND THEY SAID I HAD LISTED IT AT THE TIME OF MY 'LOAN'.  MY DAUGHTER AND SON-IN-LAW WERE SEPARATED AT THAT TIME THEY SAY I OPENED MY 'LOAN', BUT ARE NOW BACK TOGETHER.  HIS PHONE HAS NEVER BEEN CALLED BY ME FOR THE SIMPLE FACT, IT IS A BUSINESS LINE IN THEIR HOME.

ANY IDEAS ON HOW THEY GOT AN UNLISTED BUSINESS LINE THAT I'VE NEVER CALLED???????

We had a business card with them and always paid.  Then our interest rates went sky high. Then they cancelled all cards and are trying to open under a new name as I understand it.  We did get a reduced rate as my husband is now on disablilty (he is a traumatic brain injury) and they gave us a hardship discount.  However, we have trouble paying even that now.

For a while, I amused myself by yelling at the call center people and telling them they were idiots asking for the same information 5 times a day that they already had.  Most of them don't speak English well enough to understand what to say. They apparently read from scripts and don't have clue what to say when you get after them, so they just hang up.  Some say "sorry" and then hang up.

I have started receiving calls from 248-650-2844 even though I am on the do not call list.  From what I have read here, the number belongs to Advanta which is no longer in business.  I do not have an account with them and never have.  My friend has a small business and had an account with them and like many people have said here, they raised his interest for no reason even though he paid on time all the time.  He even paid more than he had to.  When he called about why they raised his interest, same as everyone else, they could not give a real reason .  They are a bunch of crooks in my opinion.  You can't talk to anyone who speaks understandable English, it is crazy.  How they got my cell number, I don't kow because I do not give that number out.

I get these calls too, and agree with you that they are scum, however I don't think God told you to use a credit card, nor do I think this is capitalism in extreme, but simple fraud if the allegations are true.

If so, then one bank's criminal rate hike doesn't make the poor poorer in general, it makes some sad and pissed on suckers, and once charges are pressed ultimately it puts some loan sharks behind bars.

If not, let's say they are a legitimate bank for a minute, then they make poor people richer by providing operational cash flow for the poor peoples' businesses so the poor people can have jobs and get paid and not be as poor as not getting paid.

If you are both poor AND stupid and decide not to pay back a legitimate loan, and end up turning your problem into our collective problem making us all poorer due to your stupidity, then you deserve to be poorer and are pretty shady yourself and should be hung from a bridge and have sewage dumped on your face so the seagulls peck your eyes out before you die.

You are spot-on with your assessment.  I am one of those unfortunate schmucks who got reeled in by these scumbags.  My credit was excellent, and for some unknown reason they have jacked my rates up over 30%.  Now I have a big debt that will take forever to pay off.  Wish I never heard of these people.  Now they are out of business and there is no way to re-negotiate your interest rate.

So far, the number of phone numbers used by Advanta to call me is 7. They are as follows: (800)705-7255, (718)374-8092, (303)583-8753, (818)949-4420, (215)385-3300, (919)872-2436, (248) 650-2844. I think there's a pattern. No two with the same area code. Seems fishy.

Not only do they call so many times, they call, hang up on the answering machine and immediately call back, so your phone rings about 9 times. Told them this was the wrong number to call on that account, but they still called back 3 more times. From India, no less. I finally had to get rude.
I had a card with Advanta Sucks, the lowered my credit limit, then charged an overlimit fee. That SHOULD be illegal. Why does no one call them on this? Hate them

Keep getting calls from Advanta using this number and several other numbers. I  tried to explain they have a wrong number and asked to be removed from their caller list. They will only do this if I provide them with my information- seems fishy to me- therefore; I wont provide them with this information and they continue to call. Does anyone have a legit number to call to be removed from their caller list???

some one should sue these sobs, they did the same to me, I was reading the reiews on this site and I see consistency, all were complainning about rate increase with no reason, bank's are mother fu*****. we all live under the fear of bad credit, oooooh big deal!!!!!!!!! this is the extreme capitalizem and financial slavery, they make us worship the dollar because we don't have it or we don't enjoy having it, interest rate hike is criminal and devastating, it makes the poor poorer and the rich bi****r, that is why god is just and looks at these bank's and decide to strike back at them for slaving people.

Advanta bad credit card but they all bad , The trick they like to play is change your payment due date and if you are not paying attention you will be late with your payment then they raise your interest to 37% or more.
This practice should be against the law you would think.Advanta should lower its interest rate since they could not hold up their part of the agreement.

When my July 9, 2009, account statement arrived the minimum payment had increased over 150% from the prior month?s statement and my promotional interest rate of 2.99% had changed to 24.99%.  I called Advanta and discovered my previous payment was one business day late.  Three business days later they assessed a late fee and raised my interest rate by 22%.

As my monthly payment had always been made through my bank?s bill pay service and was never late I was quite surprised.  In reviewing the dates and transactions with my bank I learned my previous payment had arrived one business day late due to the Independence Day holiday weekend.  Upon this discovery I again called Advanta to explain the situation.  Two customer service representatives and a supervisor stated there was nothing they could change or do because the payment was late.  I informed them I could not make the minimum monthly payment in the amount shown on my statement.  They then advised me to contact a consumer credit counseling agency and provided the telephone number of one such service.

I did contact the consumer credit counseling agency that Advanta suggested.  I scheduled and attended a consultation with the agency.  In reviewing my budget with the agency they said I was not a candidate for their repayment plan because my monthly payment to Advanta under their program would double and my budget would not allow me to pay that amount.  Had I qualified for the plan Advanta would eliminate the interest rate and I would have them paid off in 39 months.

On August 10, 2009, a customer service representative contacted me on the mobile telephone provided to me by my business.  I again explained why my account had defaulted and why I was unable to make the minimum monthly payment.  I asked the customer service representative to cease contacting me by telephone unless Advanta was able to reestablish my promotion interest rate.  He informed me that Advanta could raise my interest rate higher than 24.99% and do a lot more if I did not make an immediate payment.  I was unable to do so.

On August 11, 2009, I accessed my account online to provide an updated mailing address.  I also removed my business mobile telephone number from my contact information.  I received an electronic confirmation that my information had been successfully updated.

On August 12, 2009, a customer service representative contacted me on my business mobile telephone again.  This representative read the same script as the previous.  I again explained the situation and asked the representative not to contact me by telephone, especially my business mobile telephone.  The representative stated any request to stop communication by telephone must be in writing.  I asked him to specifically note I was requesting no further communication by telephone.  He stated my request was meaningless and Advanta would continue calling every two days.  I again asked that my request be noted and he agreed and stated he was entering that information into the computer as we spoke.

Following my requests on August 10th and 12th and my change of contact information on August 11th, they continued to call my business mobile telephone and office.  They called my business mobile telephone on August 15th at 11:19 am, August 16th at 11:24 am, and August 17th at 9:33 am.  They also called my office on August 15th at 11:18 am, August 16th at 11:24 am, and August 17th at 9:33 am.

In addition, upon my answering the telephone they hung up several times.  These calls occurred on my business mobile telephone on August 17th at 12:19 pm, August 17th at 1:58 pm, and August 17th at 3:31 pm.  These calls were also made to my office on August 17th at 12:18 pm, August 17th at 1:57 pm, and August 17th at 3:30 pm.

On August 17, 2009, at 4:18 pm, I faxed Advanta a written request instructing them that the only manner in which they may contact me is in writing.  My letter specifically stated the calls to my business mobile telephone and my place of business are harassing and may cause a negative impact upon my business.

On August 17, 2009, at 5:55 pm, I was contacted by another customer service representative.  I heard the same scripted speech as before.  I informed the representative that Advanta had received written correspondence from me that the only acceptable means of communication was through writing.  The representative then stated Advanta would call me later.  Without another word from him or an opportunity to respond, the line was disconnected.

On August 19, 2009, Advanta called my office at 8:49 am, 12:17 pm, and 2:30 pm.  On the same date Advanta called my business mobile telephone at 9:00 am and 12:18 pm.  At 2:32 pm I was again contacted by Advanta on my business mobile telephone.  Following the same scripted speech, I asked for the customer service representative?s name.  Upon this request the representative hung up.

On August 20, 2009, Advanta called my office at 9:07 am.  At 9:08 am Advanta contacted me on my business mobile telephone.  Following the scripted speech I asked for the representative?s name.  He told me his name is Mr. Smith, which from his heavy accent I think he must have been lying.  I informed Mr. Smith that Advanta received written correspondence from me on August 17th stating the only manner in which Advanta can contact me is in writing.  Mr. Smith then informed me it is Advanta?s decision whether to discontinue telephone contact upon receiving a written request from a customer.

On August 20, 2009, I mailed certified letters to all the Advanta locations and the individuals listed below.

On August 22, 2009, Advanta called my office at 9:23 am.  I spoke with the customer service representative who called my mobile telephone at 9:25 am on the 22nd.  After the scripted speech I asked why Advanta continued to contact me by telephone despite my verbal and written requests to the contrary.  The customer service representative did not seem interested in my statements.  When I continued to ask him questions he hung up on me.

On August 24, 2009, at 9:05 am, Advanta called my office.  At 12:51 pm they called again and hung up after I answered the all.

All of the calls on my business mobile telephone caused me to incur charges.

I really hope that is the real address of the CEO posted- because I'm personally about to send him a fair amount of mail. It would be nice to return some of the annoyance.

Now I have somewhere to re-route all that junk mail too, and any offer with the space to put an address in it, especially credit card offers well I'll take the time to fill them out while I'm ignoring the ringing phone that calls back to back a dozen or so times a day.

Enjoy the mail and packages Dennis!

HOpe that tells some of you the numbers to avoid.  All things considered HSBC has been a royal pain demanding things - not worth doing business with. I woudl say the same for Barclay's Bank aka Juniper Bank out of Delaware.

Bank of America appears so mired in debt they don't know credit from debt and cash from dog crap - so you may be able to abuse them sufficiently as they are clueless.

Chase has been more than congenial and looking to solve problems including very nice terms for delayed payments, card reinstatements, and low interest rates.  As soon as I have the option I would seriously consider cleaning up my debts to Chase.

American Express is on neutral ground. They jacked my credit lines around without notice at in opertune times and cliamed it was part of new risk assessment.  I didn't particularly like having $25,000 in credit gone on one card over night, $20,000 on another the next week that was business card I travel with. Lay overs in Houston Intercontinental after a flight delay suck when Amex takes away your credit and you can't get coffee!!!! On the otherside once the account went into default they were willing to negotiate decent terms to restore the account. The account has since been sent to collections at 60 days.

Advanta has been calling me 6 to 10 times a day, today they started calling from 248-650-2844. To bad for them I am filing chapter 7 and I don't feel bad about it at all. They jacked up my rate to the point that I was not able to make my payments. When I called them they said they could not do anything about it so now I can tell them I can't do anything about it!

I get this call about 3 times a day, plus another 3-4 from a New York number, also Googled to Advanta.  I've never owned a business, nor have I had a business card.  My husband has, so I assume this is what it's about, but when I talk to them, they say I am not authorized to speak.  YOU CALLED ME!  They also call me 12 year old son's cell phone many times a day, probably since we're on the same account.  My husband closed his Advanta account months ago with no balance and the calls just started a week ago.  I'm getting really frustrated with this, but I can't seem to make it stop.  I think it's also funny that they don't call my husband's cell or his business number.  Strange.
