never leaves a message???

This is a company that is trying to charge you for online internet service. They called me and a heavily accented Indian womas said she waa calling to verify my company information for yellow pages.  She went over the name, address etc and wanted my name.  She said she was going to connect me to a verifier and I said no,I am not buying any advertising or services and hung up.  She called right back and I let it go to voice mail which she did not leave a message. Then I got a call that said Intl Gateway with no area code but the phone number 644-5874 showed up. I answerd it and it was her so I hung up.  They called back twice again from 644-5875 & 644-5876 but I let it go to voice mail. I have read other comments concerning this number and it sounds like the company that got me in 2002 with Liberty Online Serivce, charging my phone number for the "free" internet service I never accessed. I had to fight with them to take the charge off. Sounds like the same scam just different phone numbers and differnt company names.  Phone systems are such now that you can have any name and number you want show up on a caller ID. My advice is don't give any personal information to anyone who calls you and just hang up!

Three calls in three days this week.  The first couple of calls they refused to answer when I said 'Hello'.  Today's call got the answering machine while I was gone.  You can hear a man saying 'Hello, Hello, is anybody there' and then they hang up.  No message.

This is a scam, after they insist that it is a free listing and that I needed to be recorded for the free listing, the recording ask's a lot of yes and no questions, but the one question was, "Do I agree and acknowledge the fee of 39.95 to be billed to my phone bill monthly?"  I freaked out! and said NOOOOO!! the India guy then came on and said that it was only saying that because of the free listing and that the 39.95 was just incase I wanted the ad that was not free. I told him No, I was not going to say yes to that and he then replayed the process again, except he answered the questions, trying to get me to accept the terms again. I still insisted No, I did not want this service, even if it was free for the listing.I then proceeded to tell him that if I said yes to that part of the question that they would charge my phone bill the $39.95 right away.  I do believe this is a scam, because he went on to say that they could NOT charge my phone bill without it being in writing. This is false, all they need is your permission on a tape recording that it is okay and if they have your birthdate or last 4 digits of SS, they can charge anything to your phone bill and get a way with it, while you have the hassle of disproving this charge. How do you think these telemarketers make their money, giving away free ads? No,  for each YES they get,  they get paid, So don't believe it is free because you will be charged the $39.95 a month!  DON'T DO IT, JUST HANG UP!!

Wow! I am glad I googled this. Nothing came up on reverse look up. Thanks for the advise! My policy it to never give out information if they call me! It could be the best charity in the world...snail mail me the info & I will look at it.

An accented person called our business at least 12 times this morning trying to verify information then get some kind of authorization.  My assistant said she was not authorized to do anything, but when I tried answering the phone (on the 10th call) and identifying myself, he said he could only speak to her.  He repeated her name over and over again then hung up on me.  He called again twice after that, the last just saying her name and hanging up.

Receive call once a day at my office in Austin, Texas.  Nobody on the other end.

They are relentless, after many many different calling times of me telling them I had no authority to approve any of it they told me to say I was an authorized approver or something, I kept saying it wrong to annoy them and they said to write it down and repeat it correctly. Then they got the yesses and all that crap, of course wrong birthday. I am not that dumb! I kept arguing about it supposedly being free then them saying $39.99 etc. Then they gave me the legal speil and gave the contact info very quickly, then I asked the 800 number again, he wouldn't give it to me and said it would be in the mail package, I told him he wasn't a nice person. So now if ya'll want it - here is the 800 number!  888-447-5885, haven't called it yet, it says nothing on the papers about the free 30 day tryout, it just mentions the $39.99 fee per month. I don't have caller ID on my work phone so I have to answer no matter what which stinks because they do call daily. So now I have to go to the trouble of cancelling it - ick. All because I couldn't say bite me.

How do you prevent them from charging your local phone bill once they recorded you saying yes.
These Indian people said they were with the local area pages Infocity and they charge your local phone
service.  When I called quest they said they couldn't do anything about it until they started charging the business.

I was thinking this might be the local off shoot directory and confirmed the address and phone number. THey asked for my full name and title.  One man with a heavy India accent told me that he needed to "transfer me" to and obviously just handed the phone to the next person (which should have been my 2nd clue to hang up).  The next man with a heavy accent obviously from India asked for name and last 4 digits of SS# or DOB - refused to give either.  He then asked for 4 numbers that I would remember. Now I am trying to figure out if I have used that with any computer log ins. THey asked for web or e-mail address.  I argued with the man the entire time he was "recording the verification" about I was not buying anything. I am just hoping that my foul mood of the morning will make them leave me alone.

I just recieved a call from this number (248-693-0488), with a heavily accented woman asking me to verify business information for our free listing, which we apparently already have. Since I was the only one in the office at the time and don't know if we have one or not, I pretty much verified most of what she said, and gave her my name (stupid of me, I know), until she began getting confusing and patched me in to someone else. I should have just said I wasn't interested and hung up; I wish had looked the number up first! I don't know what they would gain from just asking about business information they could find online, but I hope this isn't a scam. I just wasted 5 minutes with them, and I don't want to find out that it will have longer-term repurcussions than that. If they ever call back, I think I'll have a field day.

Just received a call from this number. When i answered the phone with oiur business name there was nobody there for a split second then the person came on and said hello, I said hello and he said hell is this and said our business name. I said yes and he just hung up. Oh great! I just came to this site punched in the # and read "Don't let them get you saying yes" Hopefully nothing will come of it. From now on I will know thanks to this site.

a scam about listing your business for free in some kind of yellow pages.  Caller had Indian accent, & said he had my business address listed as...!  I don't have a business address.  If you are on the National Do Not Call list, report all unwanted calls by logging in and filing a complaint.  Also for to the FCC website and file a complaint.  The more info the public is able to supply, the better chance these scam artists have of being caught.  Never give out any personal info over the phone.

I received 4 calls today and each time cussed at my staff. I proceeded to ask for the Manager and the Indian speaking person kept cussing me out. I want to report this person but there is no listing for this phone number with the phone company or any where else.

I just received a call from 1-248-693-0488.  I let it go to my vm, called back and I got a recording saying that the number was disconnected.
