I told them when they called me yesterday that I would like to donate my boobs cause I hate them and then she got all horrified, and then I said "I wish I got breast cancer cause then I could get them cut off and be able to wear nice shirts and not have to deal with that useless FAT ugly chest bouncing all over when I try to run."   She was absolutely horrified that I said that, but WHY won't they let me give my boobs to someone else? I want a mastectomy sooooo bad!  I really do hate breasts. Breasts are yucky! I wish I never got them!

Just got a call from them yesterday...I am in CO. They were practically begging me for a donation, and I let her go thru her whole sales pitch then when she asked me what I would like to donate, I said "I would like to donate my boobs...you can have both of them cause I hate them..." Must have caught her off guard cause she sounded horrified. Haha! I love being 'One Up" on a scammer!

Loretta, this is an invaluable post - thank you for sharing it!

This morning (before I had my first cup of coffee,) the phone rang and and a female asked for me by name (disturbing that this scum has my personal information.) While she neither clearly identified herself nor the organization she was representing, she launched into her spiel: a spiel that sounded oddly familiar! When asked if she could, "send me an envelope for a small donation," I responded, "sounds good" (by the way, NEVER say, "OK" or "Yes" when speaking to these rodents.)  She then continued on, with the excuse, "they make me ask this" and tried to elicit from me how large a donation I would be making, concluding with the comment, "the usual donation is 75 to 100 dollars." At that point, I said "Bye Bye."

After hanging up, I reviewed my records and discovered that a female had used this same spiel twice in the past two months: first incident representing "Breast Cancer" and the second incident representing "Leukemia."

OK, gang, time to go to work! Let's put these rodents in a cage where they belong.

Also for all of you smart people {SARCASM}  the reason you do not get any answer when you call a charity bacl is because they number you were called from is a automated dilaer hence (computer} this is why you never get a answer...YOU WOULD THINK SOME OF YOU WOULD BE SMART ENOUGH TO FIGURE THIS KIND OF STUFF OUT!

I think this is the number I keep getting calls from.  No number appears on the Caller ID, it simply reads OUT OF AREA.  I picked up today and asked who they were, hoping to get a number to backtrace but they didn't give me one.  They did say they were from the Cancer Fund of America though.  Not sure if this is the right number specifically, they seem to use many.  Again, no number appeared on the CID.

I too checked this out. It seemed a little fishy that they wanted the donation within 24hrs of receiving the letter, since I refused to donate over the phone with credit card information. Within 2 days I started getting incessant calls from this organization, and the phone ID does not match the letter head on the donation form. I looked for them in charitynavigator.org to see if they exist, and the search yielded no results matching this organization. i will be reporting them to my State Attorneys Ofiice for further proof. Be careful.!!!!

calm down, everyone.  just because a large portion of the money collected goes to fundraising expense, doesn't mean that it is a scam or fraud.  If they told you on the phone that 100% of every dollar or .75 of every dollar went to patient care, that would be fraud, but they make no such claim.

They provide many "services" to cancer victims and survivors and their families, including financial assistance, support groups, and goods, which all cost money to provide.

That said, you all have a right to donate your hard earned money and time to any of the very worthwile charities out there, including your local churches & synagouges, museums, schools, and local chapters of various societies.

Thanks for the website http://sos.wa.gov/_assets/charities/CFAR2010.pdf .  It was very helpful to decide whether to send this charity money.  ACS collects for Breast Cancer Society Inc. among others, and gives 41% to the charities they represent.  So year end Dec 2009 they collected 1,439,533 and gave 577.512 to its various charities.  I'm still hesitant about donating to BCSI without more information. I am sure that I will not be sending the telemarketing company any funds.  It's more work but I'm going to research Charities to donate to.  Thanks for the info.

*Never* give donations to a stranger who calls you. Might be a scammer. Might be a legit independent fund raiser who keeps 90% for themselves and sends 10% to the charity. Best to find what charity they are collecting for, research the charity to make sure it's legit, get charity contact info from an independent source, then donate *directly* to the charity so they will get 100% of your donation.

I don't have caller ID but I just got a call from this organization and pledged a donation but said they had to send info and a pledge card. No more than 2 minutes after I got off the phone, I got another call from the same organization and said as such. I'm all about supporting this cause, but not at the cost of fraud. What are your thoughts?  When I get the pledge card how do I verify their integrity?

I am a call service representative for the American Cancer Society, our teleservice center is located in East Lansing, Michigan (It's more cost effective for us to have one call center that serves communities across the United States) and we realize that not everyone likes recieving calls for cheratable donations, however, if you don't want to recieve calls from us you need to say these magic words "Take me off your list". Because we're a cheritable organization we're exempt from National Do Not Call Lists but we will happily remove you from our list if you ask us to. Hanging up on us, saying you're not interested, pretending you're not you will only result in us calling you again eventually. If you want the calls to stop, tell us to remove you from our list.

Why did your caller get rude and nasty with me when I calmly stated that I felt Sunday evening was an inappropriate time/day for a solicitation call?  If your organization is legitimate, your callers should be well-trained in how to respond to the people they call.  Your caller started telling me that Jesus Christ saved on Sunday.  I really don't need such a reminder from someone asking for a favor.  It was inappropriate and when I called her out on it, she started shouting at me.  Needless to say, I hung up on her.  And because of her actions, even if your organization is for real, you'll never get a dime from me.
