Survey
Foodbook is the name of a study we are currently conducting. We are just asking about foods, water, GI illnesses and contact with animals. We will never ask for a full name or address. The information is for the Public Health Agency of Canada, or PHAC, which is a legitimate  government agency > http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/index-eng.php

They also left me a number to call back to and a case number assigned to me. This call came at 8:30 pm! they will not be getting a call back from me nor will I answer their calls.

I understand your point - but if one simply does not answer, then minutes are not being used. They don't know if you are interested or not unless they call.

Survey
They've called me before and, although I have never talked with anyone...they keep calling back. So much for the so-called random sample. No wonder pollsters are in trouble. Can't wait to find out how far off they are in their predictions of the PQ election today.

This time I didn't recognize the caller name of "Malatest" and so picked up. The woman caller had no idea who I was (I think because she didn't ask for me by name). I'm no slouch in the IQ dept and caught on very quickly to what she was asking for. I interrupted her with a 'No' and she speeded up so she could get the point in her prepared speech where she would offer me money to participate in a Focus Group (about what topic I don't know). So I declined  more forcefully and hung up.

I'm not against social research (or any legitimate research) but had no interest in focus group research on any topic.

Doesn't make any difference.  Your calls are not wanted.  People shouldn't have to ask you not to call.  Why do we  have to tell you to stop calling.   You are invading privacy of everyones  utility which they pay for,  for their personal use and not your business tool.  Any way you slice it,  you have no right to do what you are doing and your justification is a farce.  I absolutely deplore companies who harass others through their telephones and believe they have more right to use that phone than the person paying for it.  You don't have the right to use my phone and I shouldn't have to tell everyone of your kinds of callers that individually over and over again.

They're calling you because you haven't asked them to stop. Just say no thanks, take me off your list.

Otherwise you get called back.

We would never call 3 times in an hour unless its a technical error- sorry about that.
I am very interested in why simply receiving a call us such a "pain"? So you saw a number on your call display and THIS makes you want to go medieval? Um, oooooook..
Another option just call back find out why we called (you'll likely then not be mad and actually do the survey) & if you don't want to participate just say so, don't build it into Mad Max level violence I your brain. Just be reasonable. Please & thank you.

A) as I explained above these are not simply "nuisance calls" as YOU said we were  doing government research. B) We leave messages (wait for it...) to explain why we're calling so people don't go off half cocked in misplaced rage when we reach them, and for your knowledge. C) I'm certain she was not "shocked" you figured out all on your own whose calling (since we put in in the message AND call display AND say it right away on the phone!) To be honest, it's people like you who make the job suck. People who just vomit out "not interested in any surveys!"&bang hang up.- BEFORE you know WHY we are calling!
Please, try decaf, and let us explain why we're calling BEFORE reacting. I've found, working there for years, that the people who freak right the **** out when you call 9/10 times DO the survey happily AFTER/IF they let us explain that it is something they care about and actually they DO want to give their feedback. Just let us explain the purpose of the call and think for one second before jumping to the rudeness please. Would you want me to treat YOU like **** at YOUR job just because I couldn't be bothered to find out what you're doing???

We ask for you by name because we are calling on behalf of a school or government entity you GAVE your number to, in ORDER to be contacted. Ppl often don't remember this. We have VERY strict privacy requirements (which btw is why we, by law, have to "blabber on" at the start- I don't like it either but the "blabbering" is the freedom of information & protection of privacy act & the Statistics act being quoted. We all have security clearances & do not share your private information without your consent  ever.
We call around dinner time because hmmmm, when would people be home? 1am? 11pm?
Someone mentioned asking about investments? We don't care about your financial status AT ALL. If (I've been there 4 years and NEVER asked about this) we do ask this a) it's related to the survey for a logical reason and b) as WITH ANY QUESTION YOU CSN REFUSE. Any and all personal information is protected physically in a safe in a safe room, technologically using secure encryption and socially by having each person handling data have Classified or above government security clearance. We are not trying to bug you. We are not stealing your information. We are doing research to improve something YOU experienced & call you since you would be the best person to tell us how to improve it. We are not the bad guys. Sorry for calling at dinner- my apologies. But for your part you could realize we are creating positive change based on your opinions and really, why blow your top at that?
