Gained access to a customer's computer. When she stated she would not go any further, he installed a third party password software that locked her out. Even in another computer, I had to change ownership of every folder

Ron,
I received this same call today.  I was very suspicious and asked for his ID and phone number. He asked me to get a pen and paper and he gave me a bunch of letters and numbers.  The thing is he ALREADY had my CLSID key when I typed in assoc, he asked if it matched or not.
I said yes, almost ( I lied) then another guy gets on wants me to do another Ctrl -r and I said no way and hung up.

My question is, what now?  They already had my CLSID number.

Thanks!

Some guy with a heavy Indian accent called from this number repeatedly. When I answered he said he was got my info from my Windows licence number and needed to help me fix an infection on my computer. When I asked him which computer, he said I had a sexy voice. I hung up. Then he called back to tell me if I went online, hackers would be in my computer and he needed to help me fix it. When I told him to stop calling, he said "Ohh, you're really very sexy." My computers are fine. I don't have a clue who he was. Nor do I want to.

Yup.  Indian accent, says he's with Microsoft Services, and there's a problem with my computer. Twice in two days, from the same number.

I was just called minutes ago (about 11:55 AM, Central time) from this number, with caller ID  VICTORIA BC (5 spaces between the A and B).  The heavily-accented person indicated that my computer had been downloading viruses without my knowledge, and wanted me to press Windows-R to open the Run window, and I told him I was using a keyboard that didn't have a Windows key.  He then told me to go to the start button - I said I didn't, and I asked him why he thought I was using an OS that had one.  He then hung up on me!   I can't wait for him to call back so I can tell him how rude he was to disconnect me.

A guy with a heavy Indian accent called and said our computer had been hacked, also said he was from Microsoft and when asked his name said he was John Miller. Right! This is some kind of SCAM. Hang up and report to donotcalldotgov if you live in the US.

Telus probably doesn't have anything to do with it. The callers are just spoofing this # on their outbound caller ID. They can pick any # they want to show up as the # they are calling from. I work for the IT Security dept of a telephone carrier, btw, and we get calls all the time asking us to stop these calls which of course we have no way of doing since we're not a international law enforcement agency. The FBI has a page you can report this to at: https://tips.fbi.gov/

Hope this helps!

My parents got this same type call from the same number.  The carrier for 250-405-2010 is Telus.  You can report this activity to them at 888-811-2323.  If enough of us call and report this scam to Telus, maybe they'll disconnect that outfit.

I have received calls from this number for the last week. Man with heavy accent claims to be Frank Wilson. He said my computer was infected and downloading files as we were speaking. I told him my computer was off and I knew this was a scam and to never call me again.

Same thing.  Spoke to my son claimed to be from Microsoft and had him type in "eventvwr" under "Run"on the computer.  He didn't provide anymore information my son told him to call back after 6pm.  Sounds like a scam to me.  .

Got this call an hour ago. He said I had to turn on my computer cause he needed my product key and tag # cause my computer had been hacked. Told him he needed to give me those #'s cause I already know them and how do I know that he's not the hacker. He hung up. Pretty pissed about it.

Just received a call from someone speaking English with an Indian/Pakistan accent. I played along to see what they were up to. The caller told me they represented the 'Service Department of Windows' and that they were monitoring alerts coming from my computer. Of course I asked the standard questions like;

1. Who are you?  (Service Department of Windows)
2. Are you a Microsoft employee? (No, we an authorized service center)
3. How do you know my computer has a problem? (Your computer is sending out alerts to our service center)

he then wanted me (in very condescending and elementary step-by-step detail) to open up a cmd window (Ctrl-R, etc.) and type in assoc. He was looking for my CLSID key a globally unique identifier that identifies a COM class object.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GIVE THIS KEY TO ANYONE.... It could be used to link  programs on your machine and download all sorts of malicious software.

I promptly told him he wasn't getting it whereas he became very rude. So I asked for his supervisor. After about 30 seconds or so another gentleman with a similar but less obvious accent came on and answered the same basic questions.

I told them they weren't getting my system identification because I don't have a relationship with them and if they wanted to help me, have Microsoft send me a note with an appropriate and verifiable certificate. He then very loudly exclaimed that he was trying to help me and my computer has been spreading viruses and has been hacked.

I didn't bother to tell them that I am very comfortable around computers and understand what they are doing is probably illegal. He then told me I could 'hang-up,' whereas I said "bye" and he hung up.

A little research found his great article noting that the FTC is already hauling a number of these folks into court, though the game continues. Be careful....

Called and my wife answered while I was gone. She told him I was the computer person so he needed to call back when I was home. He called back 5 more times before I got home (all within an hour). So I spoke with the heavy accent jerk who tried to tell me he was with MS support and my licences had expired on our computer so he needed to download a program to fix it for me or my computer wouldn't work anymore. Well, he called the wrong guy. I'm an I.T. person so I told him to take a flight leap and never call here again. Not sure what he is trying to steal but it can't be good. Hang up if you get a call from this number.

Called today 3 July 2013 at 1530.  Caller claimed he was from Microsoft/Windows and calling because he wanted to fix my computer.  He could not explain how he obtained my number.  Finally got him to admit he was calling from India.  I kept on asking for a number I could call him back on - he gave me 952-467-6390.

I've gotten 3 calls from this number over the last couple of weeks.  I answered the first two with "hello" was hung-up on.  I let the 3rd go - no message left.  Caller ID reports this as a Victoria, BC number.  I have no business with anyone in Canada.
