Check the real tax dept's website http://www.ccra-adrc.gc.ca/menu-e.html for the latest scam going on claiming to be them.

There is a scam going on claiming to be from the tax dept and you owe them money.  They want you to send cash or gift cards to a certain address.  No cheques or bank transfers.

This is a scam.  Anybody saying they are from Revenue Canada, it's a scam.  That is not a legal name as decided in a court case and have not been used it in over 20 years.  The proper name is Canada Revenue Agency [CRA].  Officially, it's the Department of National Revenue.  I used to work there.

The tax dept do not phone you for information.  They write.  Once you have made phone contact, then the communication will continue over the phone.

The area code for the Surrey Taxation Office is 604.  Area code 250 is for BC outside of the lower mainland.

Yet another phone scam, I doubt seriously these folks know anything about revenue
other than stealing someones.  

Okay, looks like it actually IS Revenue Canada, based on the other posts here, but why would they call me?  I'm American!  Last time I was even IN Canada was a road trip to Montreal with my sister and brother-in-law in 2005.

I just got called from 250 4929585 and they looking for my X-boyfriend which is weird and she leave a message and the contact #+250-4929363. And I called the number it's busy and hang up. Does anybody experience this number?????

Even being that it is Revenue Canada, the person calling just doesn't listen to what they are told. They've called us twice in the last month and even though we distinctly state "Good Afternoon, Adam Business Service', each time she has asked for a specific individual who does not work here, has never worked here, and she was advised of that the first time she called.
So in other words it is just like a scam/telemarketer/harassment caller!

Cause you are either covered by the Surrey or Winnipeg Tax Office. That's where you would file your returns by paper. That's not the regional office which would either be Calgary or Edmonton, depending where you live in Alberta.

It actually is Revenue Canada.  I am an employer and they were checking on one of our employees.   However, I did phone ththe numnber they left me and again it verified that it was Revenue Canada.

The idea that scammers would not only call you trying to steal you identity and then fill a message board on line with b***s*** stories supporting the scam is absolutely horrible. I hope you thieving b*****ds rot in hell - if you live to steal, you add no value - the planet would be better off if you were cast into space.

They shouldn't have asked you to leave your SIN though. That's against their rules. It was Revenue Canada though. Not a scam.

Yes, it is Canada Revenue Agency at Shawinigan data centre in Quebec calling me to correct mathematical errors on the T4 slips and T4  summaries issued to my employees last year 2010.

After the discussion, a tax credit was issued to my source deduction account for this year 2011 because of my wrong calculation (probably I looked up the wrong line on  the source deducation table).

Not a scam.     I actually got a tax refund from the Government !!!!

Blame the complexity of our tax system.    But, it can happen the other way round, ie, CRA can ask for more money.

I received a call from 250-492-7995 asking me to call them back. I called back and only got a busy signal. I live in Alberta -Why would the Surrey Tax Office be calling me???!!!!

This is a Canada Revenue Agency number for Surrey Tax Office but is a dial out number
only for a collection agent.  You must hold on for a few moments for someone to come on the line.

I received a call from this number today, also.  I'm guessing it's because I've got a Vancouver number.  However, that being said, they know I don't live there anymore...so I'm curious why I'd be getting a call from their Penticton office.

It seems from the message on that number that most of the calls out of it are for revenue collection (i.e. GST/HST), or business inquiries.

Have a letter from rev. Canada spoke with a young woman when I called the 1-888 #  provided . She forgot to ask for a piece of information and called me back. It was 250-492-9585

I just got the same phone call from this number as well.  Nice lady claiming to be with CRA but would like first to confirm my personal information.  The first question out of her mouth was "what is your SIN?"... VERY Bizzar..

So I told her I don't give that number to anyone and to call me back in 10 min as I was driving in my car,,,, it has now been 20 min and nothing....

this is Revenue Canada.  they will leave a phone number on the voice mail but this is the number that gets displayed when they cal

I have doubts about this one.

1) They called my home and asked to give a call back. They didn't say the reason at all (i.e. your request for =enter name h ere= is ready). And here's the thing, no one at my home contacted them for any requests, at all. Don't they usually let you know what it is for?

2) I searched the website and I didn't find this phone number. I found local numbers and 800 numbers. None of them ended in '9585'

3) The results I get when I search for this number are just telemarketing related. How come that's the only thing that shows up?

4) Don't they say you shouldn't give out your SIN number? Maybe this is part of what they do to meet with the requests, but I don't know.

Has anyone actually called them back and spoke to them? I might have to call a local number and ask if that number is legit. Why would it show "Private" if its a government company? Just like Immigration and even banks show their ID.

pretending to be revenue canada and asked me to call them back, the answearing machine asked my to leave name number and sin number to acsess my file..of course i didnt give my sin.
