Received a phone call today from an unidentified female caller from (250)758-8101 who as described above attempted to use an intimidating direct tone.
Female caller wanted to know who I was
Right there that set off red flags/alarm bells.
Turned it right back on her and asked her with the same tone "Who is this?" I did not budge and waited in silence for her to respond.
She did not give her name (red flag #2) but said that my name and number was given as a contact for another person as a reference for a rental property (red flag #3).
She then provided the individuals full name (red flag #4).
I did not know the name given, never authorized myself as a reference and would never give out info over the phone to an unidentified caller. This type of information request from my understanding must be done in writing with the consent of the individual. Some sort of FIOP concern and any legit business knows this.
Do yourself a favor folks, if you get telephone calls requesting info on another person have them fax the request to you. (Staples has faxing services rather cheap if you do not have a fax/want to give out your fax number) Get it in writing. Should the caller not be willing to do this it is some type of scam.

Have had the same thing happening to me.They are very shady, make sure you record your calls. They violate the collection adgency rules alot.Look it up on the net.For starters they are not aloud to repeatedly call you. That is horassment and can be charged for it.

This lady called me and was rude fromthe beginning using a threatening voice was not even listening to what I was saying and she went on to say I expect a message on my voicemail the first thing in the morning telling her how I was going to pay my debt. I am telling you she was ready to fight I bet you she was wearing boxing gloves.

Left a message with no other details than a first name and a phone number and that the call is urgent and confidential. The person who left a message sounded ready for a fight. lol........I couldn't imagine getting up for a job like that everyday.........

Tracy called leaving a message to call back. I spoke with her and she presents no introduction and is curt and rude from the start. I terminated the call immediately.
Here is the website for the firm Tracy represents http://www.AbleApton.com/
They are seeking two call centre reps fro their Nanaimo office. A job suited for... another two Tracys? G..d help us...!
BBB lists this firm as a B+ so they must be effective is collecting.

Fred is correct check out Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.It clearly defines the methods a collector can use.If they violate these guidelines you can sue them for damages.
