This is a phone scam. A robotic voice will ask you to confirm that you are the winner of 100,000 air miles by pressing 1. Attempts to calls the number back yield the following message: "the number you have dialed is not in service".

"Congratulations! You have won $3000 Travel Dollars!" F'ing retards should go earn some real money, not scamming and stealing from some unfortunate guy.
Anybody know of any way to send a high-powered EMP pulse through the phone?
mj 2011-06-06 20:44:14 Unknown
IM in alberta and they called my work number i just hung up - same as everyone else 2600 in travel dollars

Claiming to represent Canadian Tire, because I am a valued Canadian Tire client I have won $3000.00 travel dollars, press 1 to accept the prize. Well pushing 1 gets you linked to a scuzzy telemarketer who asks you questions about your age and income. You tell them you are on the National Do Not call list, they tell you the list doesn't exist and they disconnect you.
I have reported this to Canadian Tire, and they are not running any such promotion, and shall be looking into it from there end.

gt 2011-06-06 20:44:14 Unknown
caller said "as a valued customer of Canadian Tire" ... you have won $3000 travel..... dial 1 to collect...

Received calls from this number on 3 of our company phones and finally answered the 4th one. When I asked to have our numbers he hung up after the first 5. So I reported them to telemarketers do not call assoc.

Calls to my cell and then no response. Never listened long enough to see if it was a computer generated call. Don't know where they got my number!
Slewth 2011-06-06 20:44:14 Unknown
The number is bogus. Its called "spoofing" and it's designed to fool people into answering what would appear to be a legitimate phone number.
This isn't a scam as much as it is "harvesting" of legitimate phone numbers. You are dialed by a computer that, once a real "off-hook" (you pick up) state is detected, your number is flagged as "valid" and can be correlated with an address then sold to whoever is paying. This is a way of defeating no-call lists, and can be quite lucrative for the harvester / seller.
The best way to deal with this type of event is to not answer calls from numbers you don't recognize. If you do answer, there is little else you can do but expect a rash of telephone solicitation of one sort or another, likely from several different numbers.

"Hello... for being a valued customer, you've won 3000 bonus points. To accept, press (1)."
Hmm... I think hanging up and NOT pressing (1) was a wiser idea. :)
