Sounded like a crowded calling centre in Pakistan. . .claimed to be "Expert Consulting Company" calling people who pay on their credit cards on time and therefore deserve a reduced interest rate of prime.  They then requested the credit card info for the card I wished to  have a reduced interest rate on claiming that they will negotiate a lower interest rate with my credit card company.  I hope no one falls for this scam!

Somebody called me from 250-980-3438 on Feb. 08/10 9:50am in Calgary telling me that I owe 100K on my visa and asking me about my and my husband’s visa statement. After I told that I don’t know my husband’s statement and that my statement shows $0 balance they hung up on me.

The same low interest credit card offer.  Starts off by saying he is calling from Mastercard - VISA.  Well, since it is individual banks that issue credit cards, not some central Mastercard - VISA office, I knew it was a scam of some sort.  When the bad grammar became more apparent I just hung up.

Call received originally from 250-980-3438. Heavy background noise, sounded like a very busy room with many voices talking. Caller's voice partly muffled, like he placed the phone piece against his mouth. A male caller first spoke of my master card account, how it was paid on time and at an interest rate of 18%. He tried to ask me if I wanted a lower interest rate and said a few other things, but it was quite muffled. I asked him to call back for a better connection. He did, that phone number he called from was: 647-288-1289. Again the same bad sound and background noise. He asked me if I was interested in a lower interest rate, but said other things that were muffled (again).

I asked him for a telephone number and I could call him back. He gave phone # 403-648-9328. I called that number and it was not in service.

His information about my credit card was partially true, that I paid my dues on time, but he was wrong about my interest rate I currently have, which I never told him. That triggered a warning that this was not the credit card company I was with. They would have the exact information of my account and most of all, better telephone connection.

Plus, this guy sounded quite unprofessional and all agents for the credit card company are trained, this guy was untrained.

Be careful, these scams make generalized statements in the hope it fits your credit card account. Never give information out when someone calls you, always ask for a return telephone number and a name to call them back. When a return number is given, check it out on line and find out from your real credit card company if they have people calling and making such calls.

Legitimate Credit card companies keep one set of phone numbers. When you get different area codes that span across the country from the same caller, then it is a scam.

Credit card consumer advocate called with caller id of 250 980-3438 with same offer of reducing interest rates on credit cards.  Could hardly understand him and he said he would call back.  2 minutes later called back showing a 647-288-1289 area code id and went through the spiel. I told him I would not give any information over phone and that I would check out their info and call back if I wanted to pursue anything.  He gave me a Alberta area code number 403-648-9228.  I could not find these numbers on reverse directories so with what they are asking for it would be wise to rebuff them. This guy gave the name Oscar Smith.  Nice non-descript name for a guy that speaks english with a heavy east Indian accent.

Caller...heavy accent, very hard to understand, tried 5 times to understand the name he gave me, (still didn't get his name), lotsa background noise, (call centre?), wanted VISA credit card information and interest rates on the card. He also wanted to know how many other cards I had and what the interest rates on them were. Said he was calling from Calgary but caller ID showed 250 980-3438 which is a BC area code. I kept telling the caller that I was not interested but he got quite annoyed that I didn't want to lower my interest rates and kept insisting that I provide him with info. He claimed to be a "Consulting Company" calling people who pay off their credit cards on time and therefore deserve a reduced interest rate, "if interest rates on the cards were 15% or more". He knew my wife's last name and 1st initial and my address so I asked how he got the information. He said from the phone book. I told him to remove our number from their list and not call again. I then hung up.

They almost had my husband.  However, I did a Google search on the phone number 250-980-3438 Ex 299 while my husband was on the phone to them and found that is was a scam.

The names given were Tony Adams and Kevin Austin. They also gave a toll free number 1-888-628-9228.  The number that showed up on my caller ID was 1-403-648-9228. They are very persistent, even after hanging up on them and telling them to stop calling they called back within 10 minutes.

Should they call you do not give them any information about anything.  Tell them to f*ck off and hang up on them.

Got a call from 250-980-3438 telling me they were going to reduce the interest rate on my credit cards - my visa and mastercard. They obviously had no idea if I have a credit card, and if so, which one it is. (They're hoping you'll tell them). When I asked them who they were (several times) he rambled off the name of several banking institutions, hoping that I'd recognize one and trust him. WHAT A SCAM! He also told me that he was calling from CCA. I asked him what that was, and he kept repeating CCA. CCA. I finally asked him what those letters stood for and he said Credit Card Advoctes. I told him I was NOT interested and hung up on him.
He had a very thick accent and it was really hard to understand him. There was also lots of talking voices in the background, like if he was in a crowded telemarketing center.
I will be reporting this number and adding my phone number to the do not call list.

The people on the other end of this line had Indian/Pakistani accents, and were calling from a very crowded room.  They claimed I had earned a lower interest rate on my card, and seemed to be trying to get information from me.  People who receive a call (in Canada) from this number should contact (888) 495-8501, Phonebusters, the Canadian national agency created to deal with phone scams.

Recieved call asked for me, said they could get my interest rate reduced. Asked for Card info, told them my wife has it in city. He said his name was Mark Dennis,(had an asian accent). His says the company name is C.C.C.A. (Credit Card Consumer Advocate) And also gave phone number. I called back fithteen minutes later and got a busy signal. Entered business name on Google, didn't find a company with that name, or acronym. The acronym doesnt even come close to the Credit card consumer advocate.

I had the same thing happen. I mean if the credit card company wanted to reduce my rate because I pay off my credit card in full they'd just do it. They would also know the information they are asking for. And they always ask for confirmation question to make sure it's them. Plus they are asking for more then one of your credit cards, this means they are NOT with the card issuing company and they can't possibly be from your credit card company. Also, did a reverse look up and it's a land line in British Columbia, Canada it appears to be through Telus. Obviously NOT a REAL call center! THIS IS A SCAM BEWARE!!!

I got a call from this number today. He kept asking me if I had a visa or a mastercard, then asked for my expiration date. When I wouldn't answer he got mad and started rambling about how I'm missing  big opportunity and started mentioning every company possible that issues credit cards. When I demanded he tell me the name of my bank or my full name he wished me a good day and hung up. Definitely a scam. I've been called by my bank before and they have always had some form of security verification / have never demanded information/ always had correct and up to date information.

I just got a blank fax again from 250-980-3438.  Keeps calling everyday but doesn't exist when you fax back asking them to stop.  Why the companies like Bell don't have a handle on this I don't know.  I guess the level of sophistication outside the phone companies is greater than inside...

Got a call offering to lower my Visa/Mastercard rates.   I asked which company they were calling on behalf of.   Said these companies compete, so was it Visa OR Mastercard?  Can't be both.  Asked which card I had.   They hung up.
