This is a scam: caller leaves mssg saying i owe canada revenue agency $5000.00.  must pay within an hour otherwise, my name will be blacklisted, all assets frozen, (driving license , bank accounts, passports)

The caller's # is :  250 999 9061

They tell you to withdraw cash - go to the Homedeopt/canadian tire - get prepaid gift cards - scratch the pin no and give this no. to the rouge caller and keep the receipt for my records and enter this reciept confirmation in my tax form.

These are nothing but con men pretending to be CRA officials.  I have reported this to the police and they say as the crime is under $5000 - it does not qualify as a major crime.  while I was at he police station reporting this crime another no calls pretending to be a police officer - I gave the phone to the 'real police officer' and this rouge person was unable to answer- kept on saying that he only want to talk to me no one else.

Just wanna let the whole world know of my ordeal with these scammers - rot in hell these people - preying on law abiding citizens - who work hard for their money.

This is a collections company for BC MSP. In the last week I have recieved 22 calls, from 5 differant #'s. I block a # and a new one shows up the following day. I owe nobody, so I do not pick up these calls. Last year at this time I went thru this routine with the same #'s. I picked up, and they asked for a person I had never heard of. Then they turned, instant a***ole on me, so I hung up. This year I googled every # and it keeps going back to " collections for BC MSP"   Soooooo I went right to the source. I called MSP and asked their accounts dept " OK, how much do you think I owe you now?"  They did some investigating and it turns out 2 other "unknown to me" people are associated with my phone #. I've only had the # 2 years, so I have to wonder how many years this # has been on their ugly hit list.  Now 4 days have passed since talking to MSP and a whole new # just tried calling me  250-999-1108.. it's 8:00 on a saturday morning, and the call was again " collections for MSP"   God damn, if something is not missing in the chain of command at MSP, I am bewildered. Nobody is checking old phone numbers!  I owe nobody! And this is 22 calls in 1 week!

I had this # call me all day as well.  Claiming a debt I have with the province. I have no clue how they got my phone # as my phone in new and unlisted. They tried verifying who I am. I refused to give my address as I need verification of who they are. Their answer to that was they would put revenu services on the line. Really? Sounds fishy to me.

They state that they are a collection agency, and they keep on calling my number from several other numbers (switching every few days):
250 940 0280
778 945 0062
877 762 7070
250 940 0449
604 336 8359
250 999 1106

Most don't even leave a message for you, calls me back continuously (almost 3-5 times per day, every single day), to the point where I've added their numbers on my phone simply labelled as SPAM so I don't pick up, and leave my phone on vibrate when they do call.

The funny thing is that they keep on calling my CELLPHONE. For every government-related document, all that I have listed is my Home Landline, which is in a whole 'nother city in BC. If they have beef with me about anything legitimate, then they would call my house and my parents would let me know what's up (like how they would send me documents to my house address rather than to me directly to where I am currently staying at, since I'm still a student).

This company can be one of several things:
1. A scam where some company buys off or steals your private information, like phone numbers and names, and try to siphon money from you pretending that they are from a legitimate company because there are probably a good handful of people who will actually believe them (which I think they are). Then they recycle through a bunch of random unused numbers and run your number back through their machines.
2. A collection agency that's bought off government debts of the person who owned your (cell)phone # before you took over it (unlikely).

What to do when this happens and it turns out to be a scam:
1. Collect all of the numbers harassing your # and report them to your cellphone company or to a government administrator for fraud and harassment.
2. If you are nearing the end of your contract for your cellphone (like me), consider switching to a new phone company and a new # (which I will be doing very soon because this is driving me INSANE).
3. Block the numbers if you are on a landline or your cellphone contract cannot be renewed yet.

Seriously, I'm at the end of my line. I am planning on switching to a new cellphone by the end of the month. This is ridiculous and getting out of hand. I can't always go to my phone 3-5 times a day for another month thinking that it's "SPAM" calling again.

Phone numbers get recycled all the time.
They recycle phone numbers after 3 months, so many people could have had your phone number before.
Don't worry about it.

I answered but didn't say anything.. then the caller 'left a message' saying that they are calling on behalf of the Revenue Services of Canada.... but I thought they changed their name to CRA (Canadian Revenue Agency)??

I do owe for Medical though... so maybe it has to do with that. But then again, why wouldn't the Government contact me directly?
really?
really?

I have to laugh while reading these comments. This number just called my parents house looking for a relative who I know has debt and likely owes to the government. Regardless, how do you people know if you owe or don't owe money to MSP or another government agency? In 31 years of my existence I have never had any issues with collections or holding debt; however, just recently I received a reassessment from Canada Revenue from a previous tax filing and apparently I owe some money back to the government. If you people simply avoid these phone calls and cry out publicly every time someone from this number calls, you will never know what the situation is. Why don't you just answer it, determine what they want, and actually deal with it.

They are collection company that buys debts from the goverment. THEY ARE NOT PART OF THE GOVERMENT!! Any collection agency is only allowed BY LAW, to contact you once a month, any more then that is harassment! The debt is also only good for 7 years from the time they bought it from whomever sold them the debt in court. Basiclly these debts get bid on in a sort of auction through court. After 7 years, BY LAW they can not collect anything thanks to the statute of limitations law. FYI and pass it on.

Just go to your telephone company web site and BLOCK the offending number, so it will not be able to come thru.
But that's nothing permanent, because those Caller ID spoofers use a number for one day or so, then start to use some other number. The numbers they use are abandoned numbers, not yet reassigned by the telephone companies.
From Wikipedia:

Caller ID spoofing is the practice of causing the telephone network to display a number on the recipient's Caller ID display which is not that of the actual originating station. The term is commonly used to describe situations in which the motivation is considered malicious by the speaker or writer. Just as e-mail spoofing can make it appear that a message came from any e-mail address the sender chooses, Caller ID spoofing can make a call appear to have come from any phone number the caller wishes. Because of the high trust people tend to have in the Caller ID system, spoofing can call the system's value into question.

It is amazing that such a crooked practice is allowed to go on!
Where are the feds when I need them????? I wrote to my US Rep...no response!

Bottom line: IGNORE IT and never give the other side ANY information. PERIOD!

You don't need a valid debt or a derogatory trade line on your credit reports to be hassled by debt collectors. They call third parties to alleged debtors all the time for permitted skip tracing purposes, or often pretending it's a trace to annoy and shame an intended target whose location is already known. Runaway skip tracing is arguably the most common problem the debt industry creates.
