Wanted permission to place a sign in my yard "for free" as a visual deterrent.
First off nothing is free, ever, when telemarketers are involved.
Secondly, I've searched for half an hour and still can't find a General Electric Home Security or even GE Home Security for Mobile, Al.

I am not sure if this is a scam or a really bad telemarket ploy.
Man asked to speak to Mrs._____ (got the name right)
Odd sounds in background, not exactly a busy telemarket office sound, poor connection.
Asked for permission to place a sign in my yard as a visual deterrent.
Told them I have security and no thank you.
It may be a genuine sales pitch but poor set up, nothing is free, and there is no GE Security in my area.

Chris from General Electric Home Security. You could hear the phone banks in the background. I hung up.

This number called my elderly In-Laws to schedule a installation of a GE security system. Even after being told no they still told them they would be there between 12:00 and 1:00 pm to install the system and that it would only be 39.95 per month after that.

Like some of the other calls received, the first call was a male voice saying, "hello, hello, I can't hear..somethings wrong with my phone." Then a few minutes later a female voice was on when I answred. She started talking about bring a GE security sign to place in our yard. I told her no thank you and she continued talking so I simply hung the phone up.

Just like the post from Mike on 9 Jan 2012, the first call was from a male saying "Hello, Hello, I can't hear on this line, let me call you right back." Then the second call from the same number was a telemarketer from GE Security asking if I would use a free security system with a sign in my yard. I asked what it would cost me monthly to have their sign in my yard and she said it would be a $39 monthly maintenance fee. That was when I told her I was not interested. From the other posts, I'm pretty sure that the first call is a recording. When they realize it is a real caller they call back.

I got a call just now and said hello a couple of times.... I could hear a bunch of talking in the background and heard one male say something about "if it's a real call back....." No one would ever say anything directly to me.

answered the first call and a recording was of a male saying ..."hello, hello,, I think something is wrong with my phone I will call you back" I let the 2nd call go to voicemail and a black male voice on the other line was cursing " I think I got that Bi*** on the line" etc etc. but was selling security systems in the back ground.

Supposedly GE Security trying to sell security systems. I just answered, said "no thanks", and asked to be removed from their calling list. We shall see...
