I received a voicemail from this caller identified as this number.  The call center operator was a) speaking Hindi as the message started, then to heavily accented English interspersed with laughter and giggling.  I would ignore this until such time as a legal notice is served, if indeed there is a genuine legal issue.  Otherwise I would absolutely pay no attention to the caller.

These people have been making obscene phone calls to my home for months. The language is profane, they make threats of violence. I am disabled and home alone often. It is stalking, and I will not be a VICTIM. If he keeps calling me, however, he WILL be a VICTIM.

They will not be caught.   They are located in India.   Once you got that call you should have contacted the official IRS numbers dealing with your payment plan.  They would have told you immediately that it was a scam.

Why would you just give away money to a complete stranger (using an untraceable  green card of all things) , when you know the IRS only accepts checks or credit cards or money orders or special wire transfers).  Someone  just calls you on the  phone, when you already have an existing IRS payment plan and gives you contradictory instructions and you just fall for it?  How is that possible?    How could you fall for that?    Well, in the unlikely event you used a credit or debit card, the bank might be able to reverse the charge.

Report them:  http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Warns-of-Pervasive-Telephone-Scam

Beware.  If they scammed you this easily, they're sure going to try it again-- you've proven yourself to be an easy mark.

***

Can't believe how many people are STILL falling for this scam.

Same as most of the above.  I was actually terrified because I am currently on a payment plan for my taxes, although I have been paying them.  On top of that, the guy called me the day before my wedding, so I panicked because I thought if I tried to leave the country on my honeymoon, I would get arrested.  Of course, by the time I caught on, it was already too late.  I lost about $1200.  I broke down and lost it.  The worst thing was telling my fiancé that the money I had saved to spend on my honeymoon is gone...if these guys are ever caught and can be tried, I will go wherever I have to to testify.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

Callers: This is a scam to retrieve money from you. I am a Texas Peace Officer and just worked a case here in Burkburnett, TX where a woman was scammed out of $500. The caller told her she owed money for back taxes from the IRS, and if she hung the phone up during their conversation then he would have her arrested immediately. He said he represented the John Curry Law Firm. First of all, a law firm can't have you arrested for anything. Any warrants have to come from a court of law, not a lawyer. If you have any questions about these type of calls, then hang up and contact your local police department.

I received a call from this number this morning. at 7:30 am. I asked why is he calling so early, they're not supposed to call before 8am. He said within two hours someone was going to come and arrest me. That did not happen. I knew this was a scam but i thought I'd have some fun and go along with it for a little bit. He also said I need a lawyer, I owed back taxes of $989.62, I asked to speak to the supervisor and was told "they went home for the day." I asked where their office was and he said Florida. So then I asked why it was a Washington number calling me. Then he said yes, he was in Washington...DC! ((what happened to florida???!)) I asked why he had just told me he was in FLORIDA when he was in "Washington DC" he said  "no no, i told you my supervisor went home to florida."

I have had this number calling me since last Friday. His name is Jason Tylor from the dept. of legal affairs. Last Friday he said he was putting a warrant out for my arrest because I refused to pay $1942.00. I said go ahead. Then the guy called me on Memorial Day with the same exact voicemail. Apparently he forgot that he was putting a warrant out for me.... Last time I checked the IRS is closed on Memorial Day. He just called again. I did not answer.

It's just ridiculous! I have reported the number. I wish authorities would handle this. It's harrassment!!

Caller claimed to be from the Treasury department, and that they were bringing legal action against me for a debt (I'm debt free. I've heard of this scam already) He threatened that someone would be coming to arrest me if I did not give them information. The number that called was 253-216-4397.  I had fun messing with him for a few minutes until he told me to F off and hung up.

This number has called me many times I just hung up. But today they called my mother. As I'm listening to what they are saying to her I automatically new it was a scam. They told her if she did not pay them right now they would send the cops to her house to arrest her and take her to jail for 6 months. She was freaking out. My mother is a good woman doesn't own anyone anything. So when me and my brother convinced her it was a scam. I called the number and told them I had a voicemail stating I needed to call them. He asked my name I told him. He then told me that I owed money and blah blah blah. So I then told him I was lying I didn't have a voicemail from them I just wanted to show my mother that you were actually a scam. They hung up on me.

Had I thought quick enough to look up this #, it would have saved me from a lot of stress wondering what I did wrong. A law suit in my name? Wow. Thankfully, my son checked it out and put me at ease. Now I was ready to have some fun with these creeps. I answered their call after the 3rd time and spoke with Jason snyder. I played along and was really proud of myself until he put me on hold to speak with "a higher authority" to see if I could pay $3000. While on hold I called my hubby from another phone and wanted him to listen in. Guess what? I wasn't on hold and he called me out on it. I told him I was reporting him to the attorney generals office. His first reply was "I wouldn't do that" and then he laughed and laughed which really infuriated me. Needless to say, nobody came to my door to arrest me as he said and I didn't need to go to 7 11 for a "voucher" to wire $ to their PayPal acct. Unbelievable.

Not an hour ago I received a call from this number, some Indian in a CALL center (obviously, you could hear dozens of Indians in the background) asking for me.  I told him I was MY son, to see what he wanted.  He then told me that "Your dad is in serious trouble with the US Government" and that I was being sued for some reason and that I needed to have my "dad" call this number and talk to some guy named John Schnieder.

This thick voiced Indian seemed NOT to know the reason why, but I was to call and talk to this "representative" of the US Gov right away and take care of this back issue.

This heavy-accented caller identifying himself first as "James Wilson" and later as "James Huggins" called about an "important issue" that he was not too specific about.  He used the threat that if I ought to get back to him and make sure I do it through my attorney.

I'm glad I looked this scam number up.  What I cannot understand is how he got mine.

The guy called me with a heavy accent. He told me that I was in trouble because I had not paid my taxes and I was close to going to jail and that this call was recorded for security. I told him I didn't owe taxes, I always got taxes back. He said it was from 2010 and did I want to take care of it. He said I could go to the Idaho tax office and see that my name was on the list. I told him I would do just that. He said I didn't have time to do that and did I want to take care of it. I knew by then it was a scam but wanted to see what he had planned. I said I did want to take care of it, did he want me to pay him over the phone? He said no - he would transfer me to the IRS treasury department. Someone else got on the line, also with a slight accent asking how can I help you. At that point I just hung up. How did he know my name? He kept calling me Miss Linda
