Sorry about the misspelling....It was meant to be PROFESSIONAL. Yes, you can call me uneducated, but you would be wrong.
Retired Cop 2011-08-01 04:01:52 Unknown
I know there are good cops, and some not so good cops, even though agencies attempt to weed out the bad ones with psychological exams prior to hiring. I believe the F.O.P. is a good charity however, I never give to mailed on phoned solicitations as most of the funds raised in this manner are spent on the solicitors and a very small percentage goes to the charity. I would be happier and more likely to donate if police and fire agencies would cut all ties to proffesional solicitors.

We get calls from this and like numbers every day. Every year my husband gives money to the state firefighters and they call from a completely different number then this and always in the early spring.
Last night he tried to question these people about it and as soon as he asked it they hung up on him. Red flags are all over these numbers.
360-230-1600
360-547-1900
877-749-7846
253-275-3600
425-437-0640
228-209-8325
List of the numbers recently we've been called by them, sometimes the same number will say they're with different things.

I don't know about you all, but I have gotten at least 75 abandoned calls from these clowns. If you look at their website it's gibberish. If you track down their address it says they live in Lake Forest Park. They are SCAM ARTISTS, folks. I have my number onthe Do Not Call list and they ignore it. They are a bunch of clowns harassing people. I will never in my life give so much as a penny to a bum who calls me twenty times a week. In my case they are using my telephone number as a dump, the telemarketer has to rack up so many calls per hour and I'm one of those. DON'T answer the phone when they call! Report these calls to the FCC and the WA State Attorney General's office. The State Atty General said to contact them every time, as they are building a case against these con artists.

Sometimes its for other FOP's though. Not just Washing Memorial. But that is true its all for the police.
Rebecca 2011-06-06 20:44:17 Unknown
It's not necessarily a scam but if you want to donate ask for a breakdown of where the money goes. I believe only a tiny tiny percentage is donated. THe rest goes to pay their employees and expenses. I had a friend who worked for them and did this and he quit because the job gave him a guilty conscience.
Tyler 2011-06-06 20:44:17 Unknown
It is the Fraternal Order of Police. They are legit. They help with community charity programs and families of police officers who have been killed on duty.
Ngt54 2011-06-06 20:44:17 Unknown
They say they are collecting for the Police Memorial Fund. The Washington State Law Enforcement Memorial Fund DOES NOT solicit by telephone. I went to their website. It believe this is a scam.

I call and get fax. Add 1 to the number and you get customer service,..I requested to be taken off.
Told them is sad in this country to not take care of unemployed, uninsured single father of two. I have needs and would sure love to hink that my family is catered to if I get killed in my work (regardless of what it is). Truth of the matter is, I heard that most of the money made goes to the overhead. It merely creates a few jobs.
They have union pensions and benefits. DON'T SUPPORT! The every day citizen would be living high and mighty with the benefits like they get. Also, they manage to almost triple their income renting themselves out. I know, a relative is an officer that brags about the extra money they make as rentacops.
We pay enough taxes. If we were to start supporting, my opiniopn would be that all officers have recorders that record their every move, word and action. Then they will be accountable. Truckers can't contest a ticket, they pay the fine. A cop breaks the law, he should do the MAX time, no question. When we have a system that isn't so corrupt (and I can't prove it without bringing up phone records twenty years old, but I witnessed a detective lying under oath to get the conviction they wanted).

The man asked for the lady of the house and once I said that was me he tried to be funny and said "don't worry (hehe) you're not in trouble". He went on saying he would only take 60 seconds of my time and went on with the rest of his "speech". He finally asked something like "don't you like knowing the police are out there to protect you?" He actually paused waiting for a response from me so I told him "excuse me, but I'm waiting for a very important call regarding my father who is in the ICU". He interrupted me and started going into the "understand you don't need to contribute at this time" speech and I had to interrupt him by saying "Sir? Sir? Do you understand my 79 year old father is in the ICU at the hospital and I'm waiting for a call about his status? Understand that any money I have will not be yours as it'll go to my family....Bye". That's where I hung up.
If this was legit, then I'd like to think that there would've been a little more compassion based on the info I shared. I only answered the phone because I'll keep getting calls if I don't or if I let the machine get it.

No, they really are from the washington memorial. NOT washington state...its washington fraternal order of police. I donate every year, its not a scam.
Snakeman 2011-03-17 22:39:46 Political Call
Any number with 253-275-36xx is going to be from the Washing Sate Fraternal Order of Police. They're looking for a handout (non tax deductible). I believe them to be the political arm of the Police Department. Your money will go for lobbying.
you are scum 2009-08-11 16:44:14 Unknown
sounds like you are the moron who can't get a real job...or is this your job? You're on here twice already!! Get a life!!!!
Ann 2009-08-11 02:48:42 Unknown
She is a wife of a hard working man. I am thankful for the police dept. and all that they do. My area is alot safer because of the police.
telemarketers-r-scum 2009-08-06 15:40:32 Unknown
You sound like one of the morons who can't get a real job that doesn't involve pestering strangers. You are WRONG, "charities" can't call "anytime" there are restrictions that when violated constitute harassment regardless of the DNC, and they CANNOT call cell phones without prior permission at all period.
And they're mainly not charities or non-profits at all, they are for-profit companies who scam real charities into hiring them for cents-on-the-collected-dollar, and the sooner honest people get a clue and NEVER DONATE OVER THE PHONE, the better off we'll all be EXCEPT YOU SCUM.
you are wrong 2009-08-06 15:38:42 Unknown
Do you KNOW for a FACT that the telemarketer agencies keep 90% donated??? Then you probably shouldn't post that. I know for a FACT that this is a legitimate calling campaign. I work for the company making the calls.
This charity is a great organization and I would urge anyone who would like to contribute to do so. THe funds help in many ways. The money goes to trainging officers to help keep themselves and the public at large safe. It goes to help the families of fallen officers. And much more....
I will agree whole heartedly that there are a lot of scams out there, but this isn't one of them. If you would like to donate directly to the FOP, you can do so on there website http://www.wafop.com/
k 2009-08-06 15:34:23 Unknown
doesn't matter if you are on the do not call list or not...charities and non-profit organizations can call anytime and anyone!!
watchoutnw 2009-08-04 04:01:19 Telemarketer
While "Washington State Fraternal Order Of Police Memorial Foundation" is a legitimate charity (however, I have yet to see a financial report from this organization as it was newly formed in 2008), the telemarketer agencies tend to be very, very shady and keep about 90% of donations as a commission.
Take a look for yourself:
http://www.secstate.wa.gov/CHARITIES/search_detail_cfr.aspx?cfr_id=22124
Contributions $1,268,292
Amount to Charity Clients $196,098
According to the financial information shown at left, 16% of the contributions raised by this organization were returned to or retained by the charity client(s).
This company calls for the following charities in washington:
Committee for Missing Children, Inc., The
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department of Washington
Washington State Fraternal Order Of Police Memorial Foundation
Due to this excessive and highly unusual overhead, if you are moved by the organization asking for money, promptly hang up (don't bother wasting your time saying goodbye, they are not your friends), look up the charity in question, and if legitimate, donate your money *directly*. That way your $100 donation doesn't just end up being $10, with $90 in some guy's wallet.

These jerks just called my cellular, which is on "do not call".
Can the FTC shut these guys down? Can we legally harass them back?

Actually you should assume every call you get from someone asking you to "donate" money is a scam, becuase you'll be right almost all of the time! If it's a good cause, donate to the charity directly.
The clowns that work in this boiler room have been leaving fake posts here in the hopes to increase their profit -- that's right, PROFIT. They make profit by keeping all but a few cents on the dollar, if that, sometimes it's a pure scam and they keep it all. You don't know, so don't take a chance.
Sometimes it's even worse, and they are just phishing for credit card numbers. NEVER donate over the phone by giving out your credit card number. Claiming they collect for some police organization is one of the most effective scams going, don't fall for it.
Alice 2009-07-20 15:55:59 Unknown
Yes it is the FOP. I help them when I can.
Mark 2009-07-17 14:39:02 Unknown
Its the FOP. They help families within the police force. They ask for donations every year.
Mark 2009-07-15 19:49:20 Unknown
They really are for the FOP. Asking for donations for families of the police. They use a company to make all their calls. It could be the Washington Law Enforcement Memorial, it could be the Fraternal Order of Police of Utah...they all use the same company. I donated and it goes to a great cause!
JOhn 2009-07-15 18:18:28 Unknown
wow, so much bickering over a phone call! I have to say that they are actually not scammers. They are the FOP and are helping families of the police. I make a donation every year. The FOP uses a company to make their calls for them. Just be nice and don't assume every unknown number you get is a scam!
