Glad I saw this before I hit the reply button on my email. Dan Casten sent me an email regarding my Craigslist ad, like everybody else he asked my lowest price etc.. Had this urge to research his name/email. He's officially ignored.

Thank you all for the help. Prophet Casten / Dan also contacted me about his interest in my craigslist ad. Thank you for confirming what my gut was telling me: to beware of a scam.

I just got an email from Dan Casten wanting to buy my car advertised on Craig's List. He said he would pay full asking price through PayPal and wanted me to take it off Craig's List. He would then send his agent to pick it up. Thanks to everyone for your posts so that we all know this scumbag is out there doing this! I too was skeptical immediately, but only search "Prophet Dan" which is how he signed his email. I then saw that his email address said Dan Casten. When I emailed that this blog came up. Just curious, why do you think he is doing this? Especially if he is out of the country. How can he make money from this? How could he steal the merchandise if he is so far away? And why does he advertise for job applicants? Can he steal money from the Paypal accounts just by getting an invoice? Or is he just crazy and trying to irritate people? Thanks again for this blog. I wanted you to know he is still at it. Should we all notify the FBI?

You make me concerned for you that you let it drag on that long... please cut things off the second it gets weird or is revealed to be out of the country.  Posting here was a good idea though so we all can see his M.O. now, he was obviously trying to gain sympathy from you and hoping you'd send him money for his "ailing family"... what he really needs is some morals for his ailing soul.

He emailed me today, from this email address and asked me to reply to the one he put in the "to" address (edenravens) even though it arrived in my inbox. I really hate it when people send you an email but in the "To" field, there's someone else's address!  But it's a quick alert that they are a scammer.  A legitimate person doesn't need you to reply to anything but his actual email address.

OMG!  i just got the following scam email from another person named Fred Horton!  apparently the freaks are after me!  BEWARE friends.  i'm gonna pull my ad from craigslist.  i'm tired to this crap!

absolutely beware of any type of transaction with a person named Dan/Daniel Casten, Fast Freight Cargo, Glenn Maxwell, or Carolyn Futrell.  all of this is a huge scam!  i knew it was from the beginning but played along to see how far this jerk would go.  he responded to my ad on craigslist regarding my harley for sale.  He asked all the seemingly correct questions, etc.  he was going to send payment via certified cashiers check and that never came.  then he wanted to pay via paypal.  this also never came.  over the course of a few weeks we corresponded a lot.  he told me he was a border patrol officer in mexico, however when i insisted on speaking to him, he was in nigeria.  i actually did talk to him while he was in nigeria taking care of his ailing family members.  he tried to say he would send me a lot of money for the shipping even tho i found shipment for about half the price.  he was insistent he had made a commitment to this shipper, Fast Freight Cargo.  the contact person was glenn maxwell.  he provided me with a bogus phone number 253-369-9885.  this number is listed on the internet as a scam number.  i actually received a terribly mis-worded email from the supposed shipper but when i replied to the email it came back as undeliverable.  i traced the IP address from the freight company and it came back as a gmail account for glenn maxwell.  dan casten started talking to me about religion and family and being my new friend, blah blah blah.  this went on for over 3 weeks.  carolyn futrell was his "agent" that would receive the Western Union transfer he was requesting for the shipping costs.  she also does not exist and the address he gave for her was bogus.  she also is not a W.U. agent.  i chatted with dan on google chat and sent emails back and forth.  he would never answer any of my questions or provide legitimate phone numbers for the shipper or the agent.  i would bring it to his attention about the shipper being bogus, his agent being bogus, etc.  he finally, just yesterday, admitted it was a scam and asked how i wanted to cope with it and he only did it because he needed money for his family but he was getting out of this type of "s***!"  really?  the next email he sent he sent was begging me to send him $300 for medication for his grandmother.  he spouted about friends and God, etc., saying i was a good person and he knew i'd send him the money.  there is a lot more to this saga but this is the jist of it.  needless to say i sent him a very blunt and not so kind email telling him what i thought of him and his scam.  i told him i never wanted to hear from him again and blocked him on my email.  so if anyone is contacted by this person, delete the emails.  it's all crap.  i plan on turning all emails and information over to the FBI fraud unit.  i hope they shut him and his conspirators down for good.  luckily i knew from the beginning it was a scam and just played it out to see how far this jerk would really go.  if anyone legitimately want to buy a harley low rider, it's on craigslist or contact me at hdlowridergal@msn.com.  also, i will monitor this site to see if anyone else has any encounters with the above mentioned people.  anyone who has can contact me about their experience at my above email address.

i'm encountering the exact same issue as listed above.  i knew from the start it was a scam.  i'm selling my harley and have dinking around with this guy for over 3 weeks.  nothing he has said can be verified, which i've been careful to do.  if he thinks i'm stupid cuz i'm a female, he's wrong.  beware to all those out there!

thanks so much for posting this! daniel casten, board patrol, contacted me about a boat i have for sale with the same request - pink slip, maintenance info, etc. and informed me that an agent would pick it up andhe would pay via paypal. if i hadn't seen your posts, i might have lost a boat! thanks again

Daniel Casten pulled the same thing on us ... he responded to a motorcycle ad here in Hawaii seemingly sincere and asking for more information and lowest asking price.  He wanted to know if we had the pink slip, what the maintenance record was, blah-blah-blah.  I responded to his questions and stated that he would have to send a cashier's check before his "private agent" could go and pick up the bike.  He insisted that he could only submit payment on paypal.  The person we were helping to sell the bike had the sense to google his name and found Matt's entry.  What a scam artist.  He said he was a border patrol agent in Mexico.  Yeah, right.

Daniel Casten <dancasten01@gmail.com> replied to my motorcycle for sale ad asking me for more info on bike and lowest asking price. I replied and he Emailed back that it is very reasonable price and wants to buy bike through paypal but can't be there to view/ride or get so will send an agent to pick up at the property address he wants to know for that.

Yeah I got an email from him after posting an ad on kijiji and didn't think of googling whether it was a scam or not until after I gave him my address :|!!! What do I do?!

A scammer by the name of Daniel Casten is using this number to get people to work as his personal assistant. He wants you to accept packages and he wants you to work from home setting up an office. He says he's a realtor and a investor. He has no information about him on any database for realtors in MIchigan. PLEASE BE ADVISED HE IS A SCAMMER

Scammer advertising fake jobs, but is actually recruiting "mules" to accept stolen/fraudulently obtained merchandise or to launder money.
