I see the the robo call scammers have changed from calling themselves a political survey to using another false claim I have an account with them and that I qualify for a loan up to $250,000!

I wish they could put people like these in prison.

Keep in mind that the number you got from Google Voice could have just as easily been used by someone else and spammed prior to your acquisition of the number.

253-382-9999 is listed in caller ID as Pacifictel. It's funny that to remove your name from their listing, you have to make a long distance phone call. Credit bureaus are selling your info. Contact them.

Called at7:56am, May 31, NO message left. I do have a landline I set to "Silent mode" from 9pm to 9am...so the ringer didn't wake me, but I still heard my voice on "Sorry I cant take your call right now...bla bla" So much for that tactic.

Yet a new number that has hit my landline.
The DNC list is a pile of garbage, these robo callers are scumbags.

(Yes I am grouchy, I know. Only thing I can think of at this point is to change my number, stinks since I've had to for 41 years!)

Got a call from 253-382-9999 on 5/23 and a call from 360-529-6924 on5/26 on my cell phone.  I'm registered on the DO NOT CALL list   What's the sense if the calls do not stop.  This is totally unacceptable much less very annoying.  I didn't answer either call - just looked them both up on Google.

Same here, first time I didn't answer, left no message. Second time a couple of hours later, I answered to find out who it was and no one was on the line.  I'm reporting them to do not call list.

I now take a few minutes (I do it daily or or once a week) to Report any call that is suspicious to www.donotcall.gov - so at least they will have these Scam Caller numbers in their data base for future investigation.  Many shysters hide behind the guise of SURVEYS, CHARITIES ETC.  In this day and age you never know 'who' you are really talking with.  And never talk to them or follow the 'Robo' instructions to be 'taken off their list' because this only encourages them by 'confirming' that your number is a valid one.

I only own a cell phone.  I have no land lines.  I never answer calls where I do not recognize the area code or number.  I send them right to voice mail, in which case I usually find that I have received NO message.

When I have the time, I then check the same number with web sites like this one, to see if others have identified this number as bogus.  If I find this is so, I simply pull the bogus phone number from my cell list of "missed calls", and add that bogus telephone number to my regular list of cell phone contacts.

I name the contact "DO NOT ANSWER"...numbers 1, 2, 3, etc.  In this fashion, I have identified and can ignore the number.  I am not wasting my time, wondering whose call I missed.  I don't care about using up my directory capacity with "DO NOT ANSWER" numbers...I don't have that many people I need to be in regularly in touch with anyway.

Call your phone company and report harassing phone calls!  If they call over and over it's illegal!  And to everyone in general, write your congressmen and tell them to change the National Do Not Call Registry so if you're on it, no telemarketers, political organizations or whatever can call you. The law is so loaded with loopholes now it's a joke.

For a "retired telecommunications specialist" you seem to have a very poor grasp of these things.
Ever hear of predictive dialing?

Perhaps you were in the "string and button" division at Sweetheart Paper Cups?
Or was it just that you were really good at using pay phones?

Press #1 to be removed is a common spammer tactic.  Now you've confirmed it's a working number and it will go on a list to be sold to other spammers.  Use caller ID.  If you don't know the number, don't answer it.  If you answer it and they say it's a survey, hang up.  Or do like me, a veteran sailor, and teach them what REAL cussing is :D

Ever hear the term Robo Calling?

It is a computer program that is set up to call every conceivable area code, exchange and four digit extension.

This is why, when some people answer the phone no one is there.  It takes several seconds for the computer to recognize that the phone has been answered.  Then comes the menu picks.

They are using the guise of a "political" call - which the Do Not Call Registry allows.

I am a retired telecommunications specialist - not a telemarketer - and I know how this works.

The call was a recorded message saying that they were taking a survey.  If you participated in the survey you would be awarded an all expense paid vacation, including gratuities.  You would be switched to a trvel agent after completing the survey.  Apparently everybody is wrong about there not being any such thing as a free lunch.  They're scammers.

The call from 253-382-9999 is purportedly a political survey, but that's just a flimsy covering for the "free" Bahamas cruises they're pitching as a "thank you' for participating. Free means they need credit card information for a 'departure tax'. No way in Hades will they ever get that information from me. Complaint filed at FCC.gov. The FTC is also interested in this sort of stuff.

Survey is pretty lame, from polliticalopinionsofamerica.com, but then you are switched over to cruise company 'Caribbean Cruise Lines' www.2012getaway.com in Clearwater, Florida. BTW, the Bahamas are only 90 miles off the Florida coast, so the 'cruise' only takes a few hours each way. They make it sound like a luxury ship but it's little better than a ferry ride with food. Definitely not what they make it sound like.

05-23-2012 @ 9:59 AM, 253-382-9999 called.  Caller ID shows "Pacifictel".  This area code (253) is in the Kent, Tacoma, Washington area.  We are on the Federal and State No Call Lists, but that is a joke.  They still call you wanting to do a "survey", or sell you something you don't want to begin with.  These people have called me before under a different number (253-236-2032), but it's same people trying to scam you.  I wish they'd blow themselves up!

DO NOT CALL THEM BACK!

Yes, they say they will remove you -- but instead they may sell your number to other spam call services.

The POLITICAL SURVEY is a ruse.  They are trying to sell you stuff and "entering you in a contest to win" stuff you don't even want.
