They're sales calls. I got a million of them after switching to Comcast Digital Voice. Called Comcast customer service to complain and the rep was real smarmy, she didn't try to help at all.

I just switched my phone to Comcast Digital Voice two days ago. And today I received a phone call from "Simply Alarms" asking for me by my full name. This is very suspicious being that my number is unlisted and I just got it two days ago. I also haven't even given my number out yet! Because I wanted to get more infofmation out of this suspicious caller, I decided to play the role a little bit. They wanted to know if I was a homeowner; if I had and Alarm system; and if I would be willing to let them come to my home and install a free alarm system. I asked them how they got my number and they said it was on their database! Anyhow, I answered no to all their questions because it's none of their business and I informed them that this was an unlisted number that is also on the National Do Not Call List. After I said that, they hung up on me.. I'm very concerned because it seems to be to me that as soon as I became a Comcast customer, my private info has been compromised. Someone from Comcast must selling names and numbers! How else could I be on "Simply Alarms" database with full name and number within 2 days of getting a phone through Comcast and being with me unlisted at that? This is very disturbing, I wonder how much more of my private info could they be selling or stealing so I am contacting an attorney right away to see if I can file a lawsuit against Comcast.. If this happened to you I suggest you do the same. I also called Comcast about this to file a complaint and there is no one you can address this to over the phone so here's there corporate mailing address...

I live down in Lewis county and have Qwest and do not have my number listed. This is irking me because they call at least once a day. I'm seriously considering filing with the AG and BBB to deal with this issue.

Security Queen, do a little research about your own company before giving any ADVICE.  ADT is currently having a class action suit brought against them.  Systems sold by ADT from 2002 - 2006 are named in the suit.  Criminals targeted these customers knowing the equipment and response would allow them easy access to homes.  They are also accused of installing old analog cellular devices, knowing these systems would no longer work after the digital transition.  Rather than making families safe, they made them targets.  Not the service I expect from THE INDUSTRY LEADER!!!  Don't take my word for it...type "ADT class action suit" on any search engine and you will be shocked.

We continue to get calls on our business line from this number but no one ever speaks on the other line. If you have comcast you can block it by dialing *60 and following the prompts. That's the easiest way I've found to stop these types of calls.

I am one of the owners of Simply Alarms. The calls you were all recieving did not come from us. They came from a company called JDM marketing using our name for marketing.  We do have a telemarketing center and provide a great service.  I invite anyone to come to the office and see the operations and the level of honesty and professional work enviroment we provide.

I'd be more concerned about someone cutting your home phone line.  My old system used a standard home phone line.  My phone box is outside my house and I guess some criminals will cut the phone line outside your house to beat a security system.  If the system can't call the company, it just makes a bunch of noise.  I just had my system upgraded to cellular service.  My new system has a cell device in the control panel.  Now if someone cuts my phone line and breaks in, they are in for a surprise.  I guess my new system also knows if someone ripped my system off the wall and smashed it into a hundred pieces during the entry delay.  I can also access my system via my iphone.  Maybe you need to upgrade your system if you still use a home phone line.

Lynn,
I can tell you they lied about the Seattle PD giving them funding. The Seattle PD dosen't back any security provider. I work for an Dealer for ADT and this is not allowed at all. They could get in big trouble with the Attorney General office.
When you buy a home or get a phone line. Your info is sold on a list. this is most likely how they got your number.

First of all, the company is real and very legitimate.

Simply Alarms, LLC
33400 8th AVE S
Suite 210
Federal Way, WA  98003

They are not scam artists.  They are a security company who is an authorized dealer for Monitronics (www.monitronics.com).  They purchase leads like millions of small company's, so if you're upset that your info. is getting out there, don't be mad at Simply Alarms; someone else is making the money off them calling you.

Simply Alarms, LLC also purchased the assets of a few other security company's, absorbing their customers, etc.  Some of these customers were flagged to receive an upgrade to their security system, but the upgrade never occured since the previous company "went out of business" or was bought by Simply Alarms, so Simply Alarms contacts these customers via telephone to arrange for a consultation regarding their free upgrade.  There is no cost for the initial equipment (unless you wish to purchase more), and also, Simply Alarms is not associated with ADT.  Some of the company's from which they purchased assets were dealers for ADT, but they are not.  So, if you take advantage of the upgrade, you may be switched to Monitronics that offers 2-Way voice communication through your panel, similiar to OnStar for your car and one of the fastest response times in the country.

Yes, it's important for consumers to be cautious about calls like this, but they are a real company.

Also, someone mentioned that it was dubious that Simply Alarms wouldn't send anything out via mail...That's not dubious...That's cost-effective.  Most small companys that rely partly on leads purchased from other company's do not keep a stock of printed materials that they can mail to everyone that requests them.  They also don't offer that becase someone who markets over the phone wants to talk to you, not send correspondance via snail mail.  You'd probably be surprised at the number of company's out there that don't/won't send you any printed materials.

I received a phone call on my cell phone from 253-245-5066 which was Simply Alarms. I was traveling and asked if he could mail me the information.  When he said they couldn't do that and they only work by phone I became very suspicious.  It seems odd that a legitimate company with an alarm monitoring system does not have anything in writing to send to you.

This definitely sounds like a scam - I just filed a report with the Attorney General's Office and will also be calling the police. I got a call from the phone number (253) 736-2902. A representative named "Tara" said that her business, Simply Alarms, is replacing the alarms for exisiting ADT customers. She wanted to send a technician out to "upgrade my system." I'm afraid what she planned to do was to take out my functioning alarm system and install a fake one and/or just rob me right then. Please beware and warn your neighbors. I have no idea how they got my name or phone number.

If someone is offering a free security system RUN!!  The police do not ever endorse an alarm co. I work for ADT. If you chosse to go with a little local guy suchas this company you will be very sorry. You get what you pay for. Monitoring with ADT is top notch over 5 monitoring centers. So take my free advice don't talk to them!! The fact that they don't know your name tells me Comcast is selling your info to them.

I received a call from this number in the evening and an older woman asked me if I was the homeowner, and I head her move a paper near the phone, she hesitated, and then asked me if we had a security system, offering to install a Honeywell security system if we didn't have one.  I tried to call the number back and received a disconnected phone signal.  I don't believe that there is a 253 area code in Seattle.  Tacoma, perhaps SETAC has 253.

I just recently switched to VERIZON and got a new #.
I see everyone talking about comcast being the culprit. I think it has to do with updating your number in the directory. The security co. thinks you just moved in.
I have changed my # a few times this year and I always get this crap!
