Prank Call
I've been receiving calls from this # for the past month. I never answered it because I was unfamiliar with the area code. But yesterday I decided to see who it was. The man identified himself as Special Agent James Allen. Basically telling me the same as what Tribeca has written. As soon as he told me there was a warrant out on me I knew it was a scam, but I played along with him to see just what he had to say.
Of course I had two options, one I could hang up get an atty and get arrested, second I could send $ to resolve the whole matter.
After about 10 mins of his BS, I told him it was a scam. His parting words were that there were a group of federal agents about 100 yards outside my home waiting for me.
Of course I went outside with my hands up stating I wasn't going resist arrest. OMG I hope there weren't any neighbors watching me. hehehe
But on a serious note, I will call the proper authority and report this.

I received the same.  I went to the police station and they told me that no government agent would ever demand you to wire money and it is a scam.  The officer also told me that I should report it to the FTC and there is another scam where they are telling senior citizens that their grandchild is in prison and they have to wire money to get them back.  When I got this call I was so upset I almost got in a car accident.  Mind said they were from the FBI and they were coming to my work place to cuff and arrest me if I did not wire them between 900 and 2500 immediately.  That is when I went to the police station.  I will also call the above numbers and report this.  I filed a complaint with the FTC.

Prank Call
Received a phone call this morning (10/11/2011) from 260-220-9743 Ft. Wayne, IN.

A Man with a pure American accent was asking for me. Without giving my name, I asked who I was talking to and then was told that he was Special Agent James ???  from the Drug Enforcement Agency and told me he was calling concerning a serious matter, that there was a warrant for my arrest for illegally buying drugs online. I told him, he must have the wrong person and he reacted quite aggressively and authoritarian. I past the phone to my husband, because I was extremely upset. The "DEA Agent" started to inform my husband how serious this matter was and asked for the fine to be paid. Then my husband started to  ask numerous questions and the "DEA Agent" put us on hold and never got back to us, so we hung up. My husband then called the number and a person with a very strong foreign accent answered the phone. In the meantime I googled the number and it confirmed my suspicion that it was a scam and I reported it to the FDA?s Office of Criminal Investigations at (800) 521-5783.

Press Releases ALERT - EXTORTION SCAM - ALERT

DEA Warns Public of Extortion Scam by DEA Special Agent Impersonators

The Drug Enforcement Administration is warning the public about criminals posing as DEA special agents or other law enforcement personnel as part of an international extortion scheme.

The criminals call the victims (who in most cases previously purchased drugs over the lnternet or by telephone) and identify themselves as DEA agents or law enforcement officials from other agencies.  The impersonators inform their victims that purchasing drugs over the lnternet or by telephone is illegal, and that enforcement action will be taken against them unless they pay a fine.  In most cases, the impersonators instruct their victims to pay the "fine" via wire transfer to a designated location, usually overseas.  If victims refuse to send money, the impersonators often threaten to arrest them or search their property.  Some victims who purchased their drugs using a credit card also reported fraudulent use of their credit cards.

Impersonating a federal agent is a violation of federal law.  The public should be aware that no DEA agent will ever contact members of the public by telephone to demand money or any other form of payment.

The DEA reminds the public to use caution when purchasing controlled substance pharmaceuticals by telephone or through the Internet.  It is illegal to purchase controlled substance pharmaceuticals online or by telephone unless very stringent requirements are met.  And, all pharmacies that dispense controlled substance pharmaceuticals by means of the lnternet must be registered with DEA.  By ordering any pharmaceutical medications online or by telephone from unknown entities, members of the public risk receiving unsafe, counterfeit, and/or ineffective drugs from criminals who operate outside the law.  In addition, personal and financial information could be compromised.

Anyone receiving a telephone call from a person purporting to be a DEA special agent or other law enforcement official seeking money should refuse the demand and report the threat.
