They just recently started calling me as well. When I answer they hang up.

Also getting calls from this , and a few other numbers. Damn! How did I get on their radar? No loan apps, nor have I made any calls to unknown numbers on my cell phone. (that is what they are calling). Maybe someone hacked a friends contact list. I hear that is a new way to get good numbers to harass.

I checked a couple of area code sites and they say the 261 area code is bogus.  Here's what  www.namethatnumber.net had to say:

    "The 261 area code appears to be a invalid, it may be spoofed.
     Phone calls originating from within the 261 area code often turn out to be a telemarketer,
     a telephone    survey or bill collector trying to disguise their real phone number."

A bogus area code + heavy accent = scam.    Strongly suggest you look at any call from them with extreme skepticism.    Since they're talking about loans, wouldn't hurt to check your or daughter's credit ratings to see if there is any unauthorized loan activity due to identity theft.

I got a phone call this morning from a guy asking for my daughter, he said that she applied for a car loan and the application had been accepted. My daughter doesn't even have a driver's license. She has driving anxiety, so she takes cabs, or rides with friends or us. I did aqsk her if she applied for a loan though and she said no. Besides, why would she have given them my number and not her own? I tried to call the number back, simply by going back to incomming calls and then hitting talk and I get a recording that it can't be completed as dialed. The guy called me again a couple hours later. When I asked for this guy's supervisor he said the supervisor was busy and he would call me back. I couldn't tell what he said the name of the company was he barely spoke English, and he didn't seem to understand when I said that she did not apply for a loan. I asked him to spell the name of the company, then he repeated that her loan application had been approved. Is there someone that we should call? I mean someone is using our personal information.
