I just got a call from a recording telling me they were from Montgomery Bank and my visa debit card was deactivated and I needed to press a certain number to reactivate it. I hung up the phone.

Just got this call on my wifes cell at 1:30AM!!! Call claimed to be from Southern Federal Credit Union stating my debit card had been deactivated as someone else had accessed it (how would they know if I didn't tell them) and we don't bank with SFCU. Same thing as in other reports here, told me to press 1 to connect to their security department to reactivate the card. Since I was a bit pissed and wanted to yell at someone, I pressed 1 and got another (poorly) automated voice telling me to input my card number. I put in all 1's hoping still to yell at someone, but it just comes back and says that the card number is invalid and disconnects you. Calling back receives the fax line others have reported. Next stop is to the FTC site and a call to the real SFCU tomorrow to inform them of the scam and possibly a call to Clark Howard as well to get the word out.

Someone called my cell phone from this number, stating that they were a Credit Union and my debit card had been canceled, however I have never had a card with them? I googled the number and found all of these comments on here. I did not call it back, or press any digits!

Robo call stating my Visa debit was deactivated, said to press one to speak to security. I hung up.

Called at 1:17 a.m. on my cell phone!!!! Did not answer. Listened to message this morning and it was part of a recorded message stating something about pressing 1 and then it disconnected. Called the number back after reading messages on this website and also got a fax tone.

robo call on my cell phone (ATT iPhone) telling my my (nonexistent) clear mountain bank card was deactivated. Please press 1 to have it reactivated. I hung up for fear of being slammed somehow, but if I hadn't been at work, I would have tried it in hopes of getting a real person to berate.

Just spoke with my credit union after my call yesterday, which I hung up on. Pressing 1 gives them a heads up that they have connected with a person that has an active account. Don't encourage them-Don't respond at all.

I picked up a call @ 6:06 pm on Sunday evening- just before the Super Bowl! I got a recording stating that my credit card from the university that I work for has been deactivated. Funny since they don't have a corporate card.....I tried to press numbers to talk to someone but it all seems prerecorded.

I just received a call from this number - 11:21am in Alexandria, VA. Similar message except they said they were from the "Arlington Credit Union". I did press 1, but when I heard I was going to need to supply 3 pieces of information (including my account number), I hung up.
Figured it was a scam.

Same story here... I had three missed calls, but no message was left, so I googled the number. Thanks for the info, everyone!

I got a call from this number first at 5:57pm, which I didn't pick up. Got another call at 6:02pm. It was an automated message
"Your Visa debit card has been temporarily deactivated. To reactivate your card now, please press "1" and you will be immediately redirected to our security department. Thank you."
I hung up..

Received a call from this number last night, but didn't pick it up. Left no msg, but after reading other posts, I'm sure this is a scam attempt

Called me 3 times this morning. Really annoying at 7am! I didn't answer, and I am glad I didn't. No messages left.

Got a call on this last night. no message, just a missed call.

Good one!!! I hope that gets their attention... unfortunately, I doubt that there is any real person around to read the faxes. In case there is a person and an actual physical fax machine there, however, it would be funny if you sent them a bunch of toner-intensive faxes that burned through all of their paper and ink... that's what I'd do if I had a land line or a fax machine ;-)

Got a call this morning at 7:26 AM CST from this number; I blew it off because I don't answer numbers I don't recognize on my cell, and they freaking woke me up! They left me the following voice mail message, which made no sense, as I don't have a Visa debit card:
"Your Visa debit card has been temporarily deactivated. To reactivate your card now, please press "1" and you will be immediately redirected to our security department. Thank you."
I searched for the name of the caller at http://www.phonenumber.com/reversephone and the only information available was that it was reportedly a land line in Fulton, KY.
I live in MN, which doesn't take kindly to interstate scams, but don't really know how to go about reporting this, or what these people were trying to do, exactly... I worry that if I had typed in the "1," I might have unlocked my Blackberry and allowed them to see all of the information stored therein, or worse... does anyone know the nature of this scam? What is the goal? Do they try to solicit personal information if you press "1," or is this an automated thing?
I tried calling the number, and got a computer/fax high-pitched whine.

Checking out Vulcan Furniture's Website, it looks fake. Calling the number they have listed, 410-864-8130, gets you no response and the message is forwarded to a mailbox at 330-242-6430.

Received a call last night at 9:20 p.m. informing me that my debit card has been deactivated and i need to enter my account info to reactivate it. Googling the number, it appears to be a fax number in Kentucky. It sounded like an autodialer.
| Jon 2009-12-08 18:15:11 Unknown |
Yup....same as Al on 27 OCT 2009. Only I went ahead and sent them a fax telling them they are being investigated for fraud.

Call came into my cellphone from 270-568-1978 while I was at work. I didn't recognize the number so I googled the number and found the number is the fax number to Vulcan Furniture in Maryland and this web site stating it is a scam. I never called the number. When talking with my spouse after work, I learned that they too had received a call on the cell phone from a different originating number but still a scammed number. Guess nothing is safe any more! I even have the cell phones numbers blocked through the national phone registry, wonder if that is how the scammer got my number??
