The ID said TX Hwy Patrol A. I also answered in case it was an emergency. The caller said they were collecting money for a downed officer, gave a name (which I didn't note), and said they worked directly for the Highway Patrol, so no fees would be taken out of my donation. I'd get a mailer to send the funds to them directly. When I said I wasn't going to participate, he said "Why not?". I hung up.

Answered phone.  Heard a voice say "shut your mouth young man or I will come over the desk and do it for you" when I kept saying hello, hello, they hung up.  This type of phone call is very unnecessary and something should be done.

We were called nine times in three days by the Texas Highway Patrol Association. Very persistent. Would not take no for an answer. After nine times I would hope they got the message.

I for one am sick of these phone calls. We have asked repeatedly to be removed from the caller list. That to me alone screams harassment. If I want to donate I find my own organizations and donate and not to one that DUNS me like Im late on a bill or something. How far could 5.00 go when you hear all that telemarketer noise going on behind them? The the pushiness for the 5.00 hacks me off. The not taking NO for an answer is positively a pain in the butt. He said they would not call me again in 2011 Liar. Donate once and they call you every 4 weeks. I made that mistake 2 years ago and marked iton the calendar every time they called me
SO for now its my 5.00 and Im keeping it or sending to an organization that doesnt bug the hoohoo out of me.

I received a call from 281 477 0812. Caller ID said the Texas Highway Patrol, When I called back the line went dead after a couple of rings. I figured this has to be some kind of scam because in checking CenturyLinkmy DPS directory there is no such number listed.

This is just another scam. No legitimate charity raises money by cold call solicitations. The fund raising costs are far too high. The only ones making any money from this are the sleezy fund raising creeps. If you want to support legitimate public safety officials - law enforcement, fire fighters, and such, donate to
The 100 Club. The 100 Club is ethical and efficient. Check them out with the BBB. Don't throw your money away on sleezy creeps. This sleezy outfit uses a bunch of phone numbers including 281-477-3252. Cheers.

It looks like at least one person has done some of their own investigation.  I want to know for a fact where my money is going before donating. Sounds a little fishy to me. I figure if I am uncomfortable with a call like that, I don't donate.

Recieved a call yesterday. the caller id said "patrol highway". we were disconnected when i picked up. I tried to call them back for half an hour.  at the time my family was traveling on the road, therefore I spent 30 minutes terrified that my family was in a car accident. finally i connected with texas highway association and found out they were solicitors. if you have ever got the call from HP telling you you had lost a family member on the road as i have, you would understand the fear. I'm sure the writer nickname  "pissed off at you" has never had this happen to them.  This is So wrong. i had made it my mission to right this wrong. if you wish to discuss it with me, i am  jshill@gmail.com

Yep - the scam goes on....

THPA *is* a legit org, *BUT*, this phone # is NOT connected to them, and if you DO send any $$, it will NOT go to help anyone but the scammer. The saddest part is they are using crybaby stories to try & gin up sympathy, based on real facts, but the real people who are in need never see s dime.

They are legal and legitimate.  It is very discouraging, though, to know that they raise $1.8 Million a year and only give $10K if an officer is killed.  They ran many great outreach programs, now they just keep the money and pay their "Senior Staff" top $$$...Executive Director $180K yr and marketing director $167K a yr!!!! Legally a non-profit that does nothing!!! My suggestion...give to United Way instead of this outfit.

Well i been helping these guys out for years. I have 2 trooper friends that are membered with the Tx Highway Patrol Assn. My friends said they give good benefits to them and take care of them when one falls in the line of duty. They give Scholorship programs to the officers kids and have dental plans set up for themselves. If you ask me i think this is a legit organization, and actually mike, since 501(c)3 is a non-profit charity. The no call list does not apply to those organizations.

the question is - How much of the money you send in goes to the telemarketer and how much to the organization?

see below for the BBB write up

Despite written Better Business Bureau requests in the past year, this organization either has not provided current information or has declined to be evaluated in relation to BBB's charity standards. While participation in BBB's charity review efforts is voluntary, BBB believes that this lack of cooperation may demonstrate a lack of commitment to transparency. Without the requested information, BBB cannot verify if the charity adheres to BBB charity standards.

According to the head of the Texas Department of Public Safety, this is a scam. they do not have anyone collecting money for any fund for fallen officers or thier families. He's been on the News several times in previous years warning about this particular scammer. Yet somehow they keep operating, changing phone numbers every so often.  If you give money to them, no DPS officers will see it. Just some greedy people who should be killed for lying and stealing from others.

Called my Dallas number and said, "Mr. [my last name]?" and then hung up. Called back but got busy signals. Obviously, I was worried that something happened to a relative. If these people are legitimate, they're just doing harm to the image of law enforcement. If they're scammers, they should be thrown in prison.

CALLER ID  shows Texas Highway Patrol.  Asks for me by name and then announces he is calling on behalf of the Texas Highway Patrol (or state trooper). Then says not to be alarmed (he must know the ploy that the Caller ID shows Texas Highway Patrol)  I am sick and tired of telling these guys NOT to call me any longer!   I told him "for the tenth time, you guys STOP calling me" and hung up.  He called back and I just didn't answer.  I am so sick of this. Am I supposed to be relieved that none of my loved ones are hurt or dead from a car accident and throw money at him for telling me so?

At 7:15pm 12-4-08 I got a call from 281-477-0812 from a man stating he was with the Texas Highway Patrol. I hung up. He called right back and
he asked me why I hung up. I told him I did not want to talk to him.
He then cursed at me with "F--- YOU" and he hung up. When I checked caller
ID it showed TX HWY PATROL ASSOC.  This is a very unprofessional way to
do business and I would suggest AVOID calls from this number at all costs!
Anyone who behaves like that is not professional and is not to be trusted.
BTW - Having your name on the "Do Not Call List" does not protect you from
503c non-profit solicitations.
