Someone called claiming to be from HP claiming that a laptop was ordered from my credit card and recited the last four digits of my credit card.  I told them that I did not order such an item and immediately called my credit card company. There WAS a charge for HP in the amount of $670.00 on my card. I opened a disputed charge claim whereupon they closed that card number then issued me a new card.  I don't understand how they got my phone number & credit card number but also found other fraudulent charges through closer exam of my credit card fraud division helper.  This is very disturbing.

I was working with a tech from HP for a couple of hours on a tech issue. I had to wait for a long download and I asked them to call me back after the download, installation, and I sent them an email. They called and it was the same representative from HP. This is their legitimate phone #.

Someone claiming to be Ally from HP called to verify our cardholder's address so they could ship a computer.  The Caller ID showed as (281) 514-4741 Maria Chacon.  I questeioned this and "Ally" got testy with me and hung up.  Spoke with member THIS WAS FRAUD.

I got a call from this same number from a person saying they were from HP.  It was about a laptop I ordered last night where my billing address is in a state where I currently do not live.

I called HP via the number on their website (888-999-4747) to verify that this call came from HP.  It did indeed come from HP.

I missed this call, so I didn't actually speak with the person, but I got it shortly after I made an order with HP.  The number is apparently not fraudulent (judging by the other comments here), but if someone steals your card and commits fraud, you may get a legitimate call from them if the person stealing your card places an order with HP.

Someone called claiming to be from HP.  My caller ID indicated it was from Hewlet Packard 1-281-514-4740.  She claimed to be confirming my order of a laptop computer that was to be shipped to another state.  She repeated the last four digits of the credit card number.  I said I did not order this and not to ship. She told me to report this to my credit card company. When I verified the card she indicated, Luckily, I found it was on an account I had closed.

Got a call on Sunday afternoon from supposedly Hewlett Packard wanting to ask me "privacy questions". (Big Red Flag) I could barley understand what she was saying. Out of suspicion and frustration I ended the call and promptly called the real HP (866-999-4747). The person I talked to spoke very well and stated they have had alot of fraud cases recently and for me to initiate a call to HP on Monday to verify my recent online laptop purchase to ensure no fraudulent activity has occurred.

I received a call from my cell phone and the individual left a message I could not understand.  I was away and arrived to find a package containing a HP computer that I did not order.  HP could not tell me who ordered it only that it was ordered with my credit card on line.  Through reverse lookup I was advised that it is a cell phone number therefore I could not get any address.  Why would anyone send me a computer or did they make an error and really intend to send it elsewhere.  Any concrete info anyone has as to what this scam is all about would be appreciated.

I've been receiving email and now phone calls at my office allegedly from HP.  The phone calls just started and the message left was from a woman I could not understand (India, I believe).  They state they are calling about my Scanjet warranty request.  I emailed HP over EIGHT months ago about my Scanjet and it was not a warranty issue. I find this all very odd. Maybe HP is selling customer information.

For those who are still wondering, I received a call from this number after placing an order with HP the day before. When I called back and gave them my order number, they explained that it was their policy to verify orders before beginning construction and shipping. Withing an hour of calling back, I received an email confirming my order and giving me tracking information.

I received a call from 281-514-4740.  When I picked up, I heard static and then the line cut off.  I attempted to call back and received a recording saying "invalid extension."

I googled the phone number and found this website.  Today I did place an order with HP so that may be why I received the phone call.

I just came across this post as I received a similar call this morning, did you receive your laptop without calling them back? was everything okay? I'm curious as HP is of no help to me saying "they are not in on Saturdays, "Connie" called me Sat morning and asked for a quick call back.

I too was called by this number (1-281-514-4740) several times over the past 2 days and did not answer.  They never left a message, so I decided to answer it today.  They wanted to know if I had purchased a camera from them using my MasterCard.  I told them that I hadn't and they said that they were going to turn it over to their fraud department.  Someone has used 2 of my credit cards in the last 2 weeks to make 11 online purchases.  This baffles me on how they do that.

I got 3 calls in a row on a weekday afternoon - on my cell phone (which i do not give out).  There is no reason for these calls - I have no orders in with HP.  They called 3 times one after another.  I did not answer.  Something seemed funny and I came across this page after googling the phone number.

On 12/4 at 9:15 am I called 18007520900 HP "Pre-sales" to inquire about Hardware on a Computer I am considering before placing an order. My question was answered and I did not leave a return number. On 12/4 at 2:21 pm a call was recorded on Caller ID 281-514-4740 and indicated "TEXAS" where so many Nuisance calls originate and no message was left. - I find the timing troubling. If this was indeed a legitimate call back it may have been for contact evaluation. They say - "Essentially, HP secures customer information, provides customers access to their information, and does not sell, rent or lease customers' personally identifiable information."

I received a msg on Tue 10/9/2007 from Allison or Lisa caliming to be from HP Credit requesting that I call 888-215-8971 because the bank said my credit card had a bad City and ST for my laptop order(which I made Saturday)
I called as requested and got a doctors office
I called back again assuming I had misdialed the first time and same office; she gave me her number which wasn't the 888# (nor the 281-514-4740 I think)
I called using my cell assuming my place of work's IP phone service was broken and got the same person to whom I apologized for disturbing
I called my messaging service to confirm that the call came from 2815144740
I googled 2815144740 and found callers who had reported this call from HP on whocalled.us so I assumed it was a scam and I'd follow up later
I called HP on Sunday only to be connected with India and frustrated to no end with communication issues (probably will cancel my laptop order)
I called 281-514-4740 to confirm it is a doctor's office and got the "that extension is not valid" per one of the whocalled.us posts
I called the 888-215-8971 and got a greeting for Dr Terrence Cook and Dr Donnie Dunagan
I searched the Internet and found www.cookanddunagan.com where the number is listed as 706-733-1104 in Augusta, GA
My hunch: There truly is someone from HP mistakenly giving out an incorrect 800 number (belonging to doctors) because my HP order was never shipped (bad city/st as in my msg)
When I finally reach HP Credit (India said I have to call Mon at 10am) I will see if I can get to the bottom of this.

I recieved this call while on my other line, so I didn't answer it.
What confuses me is this: if it is for the Proliant Server support center, why are they calling me? I did order a laptop from HP this morning, but somehow I doubt it would classify as a server. (sarcasm)
If the call had to do with my order, why was no message left? When I attempted to call the number back I recieved the message "Invalid extension" and was cut off.
What gives?
