I was trying to get help for my hotmail problem and my tech gurus came up as registered by microsoft to help solve the problem.  I let them go remote and they did some remote work then showed me a ton of urgent notices and said I was desperately needing spyware removed.  I refused and quit the session.
Did they get my personal information????  What do I do now?? to protect myself from here?

I just received a call from this number, same story as above comments.. "Calling from Microsoft, receiving error messages from you computer.. routine checkup".

I recently signed up for internet service from Bell Aliant, and declined their "security software" package.

I am guessing they have sold my information, which led to this call.

Whenever you get a call from Max Torres, he is a rag head and not spanish either, just a total East Indian fraudster, preying on the people who are not that computer literate. If you are dumb enough to listen to him, he will ask you to download a program and steal all your information on your computer, pure and simple. The third time he called from that number, i spoke with a fake East Indian accent, and when i asked him about his home province, he figured his gig was up and started swearing at me in english and punjabi i guess. Total fake no good b*****d he is, who is ripping off everyone and the Police should arrest him, but likely will never shut him down, since he is only looking for computer dummies who believe his bull s***.

Hello All, got more than 5 call's from this number, Max Torres, who is East Indian and when i started to tell him i can't believe that he has a spanish name, he became belligerent and swearing at me over the phone and so i started talking to him back with a fake East Indian accent and he is from India pure and simple. Total 1000% scammers, only want your Credit Card number and of course, to have you download the program AAMMYY to search your computer and control it. Tell them to just F OFF, and he will badger you as well, but bottom line, they are "FRAUDSTERS" who just lie like the "THIEVES" they really are. Pass this on to everyone and have them shut down, the ragheads.

This happened to me just now. Guy calls with a heavy accent, tells me he is from Microsoft, starts asking for my GF by name. I asked him what he wanted and he responded with some BS about how he is from Microsoft and my computer is "sending him signals that there is something wrong" so he is calling to solve the problem. Obviously right there I knew this was a scam so I just told him something along the lines of "I dont know what you are talking about, but I don't want anything from you so don't call back"

At that point I googled the number and found this forum. I read all of the quotes, and then the guy called again while I was reading them. I picked up the phone and right away started to give him attitude, told him he was full of it etc etc and that I am reading stuff about him right now on the internet. I told him if he calls again I'll call the cops, then he just started to curse me out so I cursed him back and hung up.

Don't fall for this dirty piece of garbage

East Indian accent said he was calling from Housten Texas from the Windows team and that my computer had been reporting errors from a virus or other malicious thing.  Never did tell me what I was supposed to do but basically called me a liar when I responded that I WAS sitting in front of my computer ... and I was!  One day the general public will all realize these frauds aren't going to pull one over on us - and they'll stop trying.  One day ... sigh ...

I got a call from 281-760-3712 today and I work from a home office. I have been sending error reports regarding my outlook lately so the timing of this call was very handy. When I explained to the man on the phone that he needs to contact my corporate IT department first and they would conference me into a call if need be. He became more adamant that my computer could shut down and wipe out at anytime if I didn't do what he said. I explained I totally understood what he was saying but he was not listening to me and that he would need to contact my IT department. When I tried to give him the number he hung up on me. Do NOT let these people onto your computer!!

We have received numerous calls (at least 4 times already) from a guy with a heavy Indian accent. He also said he was from Microsoft and called about my computer and that it has numerous viruses and malware unknown to me. I'm 16 years old and am the tech guru of the family, I know that none of our computers has any virus because I check them regularly. Anyway, the person who called me asked for a "Claudio Gas", then I told him that it was the wrong number, then he directed my attention to grab my computer and do some things for him. Before doing anything else, I asked him what company he works for. He couldn't respond so I hung up the phone immediately. Definitely spam! Beware of 281-760-3712!

My 72 year old father in Canada got a call from this number today.  The caller asked for him by name and then identified himself as someone calling from Microsoft about his computer.  When my father replied that he does not have a computer, the caller asked him "Are you sure?"  to which my father replied "Yes, I am sure.  I should know."  The caller then hung up.  Beware, this is a scam!  They remote onto your computer and steal personal information and install malware.  Do not fall for this scam.

Got a call this morning from a man with a heavy East Indian accent.  He knew my name and asked for me.  Then he said he was from Microsoft and this was a courtesy call because my computer was sending out alerts to Microsoft that it had viruses on it.  I responded that I was aware that what he was calling about was not a legitimate Microsoft call (since when does Microsoft call YOU anyway?), and to not call again.
My mother in law was taken in by this scam a couple of months ago.  She is an intelligent woman and it surprised me that she could fall for it, but she said the caller sounded very professional, friendly and helpful.  He accessed her computer remotely and installed a program that was supposed to remove the viruses. It took some time. She had to pay a couple of hundred dollars for the 'service', which she paid.  Then she had to pay several hundred more from a reputable computer store in her town, to remove whatever he installed.

Hi I got a call from this same number and east indian fellow stating the same thing he needed to remotely take over my computer now I have 6 computers (
dont ask me how that happened in a single mom family of 2?)this seemed to confuse him as I said which one is having the issue?? I even called him back 2 times and asked for his name and employee number..he said his name was allen smith..I called microsoft and my internet provider both confirmed this is indeed a scam and they need you to do things so they can completely take over your information, I also reported it to the fedral trade commision under 1 877 382 4351 ref number 31687105 any of you guys have more to add to this complaint just call them during office hours and add to the file perhaps this will nail them before they call someone like my unsuspecting dad or neibhors who are all senior citizens!! Im mad they need to do something about this...

When I anwsered and told them that my parents were busy, the guy yelled "LISTEN!" at me. Then he handed me over to this fast talking guy who asked my name, age and just about everything else (AND I gave away NOTHING). I had no clue what they were trying to sell me, but I said NO and hung up the phone. (well tried to since my phone didn't let me hang up right away- no matter how many times I pushed the button)
Then, they tried calling me once more, but I didn't pick up. I was terrified...
