Called today at work ~ lucky me I don't answer Private or Unassigned phone numbers. If it's important they'd leave a message or send something in the mail. Otherwise, I consider it phishing.

You never verify anyone's date of birth and social security number over the phone, unless you absolutely know who it is you're talking with, and certainly not just to anyone who calls you out of the blue.

They ask if i could verify my husbands date of birth and social security number isn't this illegal?

If they call you at work you have the right to request that they do not call you at that number. If you request it they are suppose to honor it. Just state that is not a number you use to discuss personal matters. Also make sure they know they are not to call or discuss your situation with anyone except you. Such as family like parents or siblings.

Left no message. You can hear someone speaking in the background (possibly another person in whatever call center this might be). Never give up information on the phone! These are either unscrupulous debt collectors or phishing scam! Landline call originated from Houston Texas.

Male caller advised the call was being recorded for quality control purposes. Asked if I was [My first/last name - which they had correct], then asked to confirm a date of birth [which was not mine]. When asked what this was, said they wanted to speak with a different person and declined to offer any more info.
