I get so many calls from this number. I made the mistake of answering today when I didn't recognize the number. Then the guy used the Police/Special Olympics thing to try and guilt me into donating. When I asked if they had a web site - he said he wasn't sure if they had one. And then said "can we expect your help this year"? When I again said that I really wanted to check out the website first because I didn't feel comfortable making donations over the phone he then said ok, please check out texaspoliceassociation.org, strange considering at first he said that he wasn't even sure if they had a website. The whole thing is bizarre. Also? The URL he provided is non-existant.

Got a call back. Voice answered. Could not figure out anything

Get these calls 2 & 3 times a day never no answer or msg.

They called to get donations for the local police department. It was to give support for the families of those lost while on duty. Something like that.

We're getting calls at odd hours.  Sometime no one is on the line, other times it's been collecting for law enforcement, today it was a 'community' call.

Who does this number belong to? Called at 8:00pm and left no message and I believe they have called before.

This call shows up as a"local" number on caller ID--yet 281 IS NOT my area code! In addition the last call came in at 8:25 PM Central Time on a Sunday evening--no message left on  answering machine.

I had recieved their call too. I wanted to donate but i was afraid it was a scam, so I called the Texas Police Chief association directly and they confirmed that they are doing phone drive. So at least is not a scam.

I have received NUMEROUS calls from this number and each time i let it go to machine ...nothing if I answer nothing. All the calls are after 7pm and have been made as late as 10:15. I am registered with all the DO not call list and these people are beyond annoying me.

Oh and when I call it back it tells me I have reached a number that has been disconnected which if they are calling me 5+ times a week clearly it hasn't been.

I have had multiple calls from this number.  I have also had the same experience where the person just breathes into the phone, but at other times have received solicitations.  As far as I know, it doesn't matter if you register with the "Do Not Call" Registry if the person calling is soliciting donations for a charitable organization.

wow I got a call from this number, and the guy sounded really RUDE like I committed a crime, I asked him who this was n he said I'm calling from the Texas chief of police. That's no way to ask for donations by scaring the s*** outta someone

Who are these people??? Last call was 3/25/09 at 7:36P.M.  They didn't say anything, but we are tired of running to the phone to answer it thinking it might be our son Who is in the Air Force.  You know someone has put you on hold and trying someone elses phone.

Isn't there any way to stop these people???????????

They called today at 5:15 pm.  Left no message just static like it was on a cell phone.

Much of the same here as the previous comments, however has anyone called it back?  When I do, the voice recording of the operator says that the number is disconnected.  Has this happened to anyone?  Also, they leave no message either.  Annoying.

Wanting money for police... Do NOT give to these people - they do NOT support fallen officers or have anything to do with them.  They take your money and send you some worthless sticker to put on your car that you hope will prevent you from getting pulled over or getting a ticket.  It will NOT help because the Police know it is a bunch of BS and are laughing at you for falling for it... don't get scammed. Investigate things, keep your money yours, you earned it.

I hate that when people call and wait for the voice mail and then hang up.When you call it back, "you have reached a number that is no longer in service". These people drive me nuts and my number is on donotcall.gov

Got a call from this number at 7:58 a.m. this morning.  They left no message. Have no idea who/what it is from. I'm always suspicious when no message is left.

I think the Do not call list is really the way these places get our numbers. I am on their list & it seems like more calls since I put my number on there 3 months ago. It rings all day with 2819144701 & a lot more #'s. Everyone wants a donation.

Getting calls from this number.  Finally left a generic message to call back (nothing about "why") and left 281-914-3174.  HER name is D. (or possibly Dee) Ferguson.  Asked for my name, if I have a case number, etc.  Told her I don't have enough information about her and her office to tell her anything about me.  She says it is a private investigator.  I told her "what" I've been reading above and she tried to play it off.  Didn't like my questions so she hung up on me.

Iam recieving phone calls from this number at all hours of the day! I am sick of it because no one answers when I pick up and its just clear air, no static what-so-ever.

I just got a txt from this number. The entire message was just a period. I googled it and this site came up. I seem to be the only one who got a txt instead of call.

This is a quasi-legitimate call and here's why: The U.S.Army which puts on one of the biggest annual charity drives (your choice and they issue a huge booklet with percentages for each organization) state firmly and emphatically to ALWAYS ask what percentage goes for administrative costs and what percentage GOES INTO THE CHARITY'S FUND. I just got off the phone with these people and the answer floored me. "The minimum that goes into the Police Chief's Assoc. is 10 (TEN!!!) % and the MAXIUMUM is 20 (TWENTY)%. Which means that 10 cents of every dollar I would contribute is all that the Police Chief's Assoc. would see.

NO WAY. The Army educated me that NO charity should ever use more than 30% of every dollar contributed for admin costs. This is a way around the Do Not Call Lists. My strongest suggestion is to contribute with a check mailed directly to the organization that you choose. Check with your employer, many will deduct and send tax deductible contributions for you, your choice of recipient..

We also continue to get calls from this number. As has been going on for years, they never leave a message; when we call back, we get an "out of service" message.

I have an unlisted number, that is on the Do Not Call list.  Some deputy sheriff group called looking for donations called.  I do not know how they got my unlisted number.  The guy was not with law enforcement but said they were collecting funds for them and was upset when I told him I was going to report him.
