I don't know who or what company is associated with 281-971-9963, you call back and it asks for you to input your credit card number, how ignorant are they! There is no operator or nothing just an automatic recording! Everyday I get calls from this number, good thing I can store their number in reject mode!

They called me today as well, well actually my mom.  She is older and has been given instructions to only answer calls that begin with certain types of numbers.  When she wanted to know who it was  said "I like you very much" She said you are apparently talking about my daughter.  She wanted to know who it was and she would not give them info. She said they just said, well this is someone that really likes you.  I set up a name on her phone for this number that said "DO NOT ANSWER"

Got a call from this number, caller ID displayed 'Texas' and the phone number. Person on the line was male with a thick Asian (Indian or Pakistani) accent.
Said he was calling from some (unintelligible) company, and that I owed Comcast 234.00 for services provided in July of last year (7/11).  I haven't had Comcast service for over 2 years (Jan 2010 was when we switched service), and I have a written receipt from them showing the account paid in full, with all equipment returned. There would have been no charges on our account from last year.
I asked the man to provide me with any information as to why Comcast would say I owe money, and he couldn't. Just kept asking if I was going to pay the bill. I told him if he couldn't show reason why I owed the money, I wasn't going to pay anything. Also told him that he was not allowed to contact me by phone again, that any further contact regarding this supposed 'debt' was to be by mail only.
I believe this to be a scam, and will report any further attempts at contact to my state's Attorney General for investigation.

Same number called my cell phone... Called it back and it wanted me to enter my credit card number... Entered a bogus number and tried to keep hitting zero to get to an operator with no luck.

To any casual readers of this post - Global Crossing is a phone company, not the caller!

Tod,

According to my information, this line is provisioned by Global Crossing Local on a Nortel DMS 500 switch located at 777 Walker Street Suite C190, Houston.

The DMS line has been popular with cable companies in some areas for providing telephony services to cable customers, so that is a possibility.  The significance of Global Crossing's name as the switch owner is hard to say given the tumult associated with that company, see: <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Crossing> to see what I mean.

If you want to know more about the switch, take a look at: <http://www.datasheetarchive.com/Nortel%20DMS%20500-datasheet.html>

As I am sure you know, calling card operators are a dime a dozen.  It is literally possible to set up a calling card "business" in a matter of hours.  Some calling card operators are running off of compromised VOIP systems and other people's money - every now and then I read about some poor business facing a $250,000 phone bill because of such activity.  (Moral - keep it secure and set billing limits on the account!)

What was the name of the calling card operator?

Have you tried calling these folks from a throwaway line?

Good hunting and good luck.

I've been getting so many calls from this one, I paid five bucks to find out where it's coming from. It's a calling card, purchased from Kema, Texas. So I guess the phone number goes round and round to various scammers. I still wonder what is their angle. If it's a calling card, and I NEVER answer when they call, simple economics would tell them to try elsewhere before the money on the card runs out. I also wonder if it's possible that the call is being made by a machine accidentally. It's all very curious to me. Anyway, just wish they'd get bored and stop ringing my phone.

Have had several calls lately to a business cell phone, caller identifies as "Federal Financial Group", they always have a thick accent which I cannot understand well and when I ask for repetition they just hang up.

I get a call from this number about 6-10 times, PER DAY. I have assigned a ring tone to the number so that I can just click the 'send to voice mail' button when they call. A few days before I began getting these calls, someone called me from a PRIVATE number and asked if I was (first name). Like a fool I said yes, and they hung up. That's whey this call started coming in every day. Maybe a coincidence, but I doubt it The first few times I answered it and a guy asked to speak to (first name). There were noises in the background that sounded like this was coming from a call center. Then they just hang up. I've gotten about 25-30 calls from the same number in about a week. It's annoying, but more so I wonder - just what is the scam is? What incentive would an entire call center full of people have in acquiring my name and number, faking a caller id number to make it look like it's coming from my home state, and then call me 6-10 times a day and hang up? I don't get it.
