I'm a fitter who works for Lakeside and have done thousands of meter exchanges for them...and never have had an unhappy customer!  We have hundreds of contractor's who work for Lakeside so naturally some have bad days and have been late?  For those who think it is a scam...call your utility company (Enbridge, union gas or kitchener utilities) and ask them.  Oh yea and if you don't call and schedule an appointment after receiving the notice letters...the meter will be  changed either way, and before we can supply gas so your appliances we need to do a general inspection (for free) to ensure it's all safe.

I had good experience. Lakeside came to change to smart meter or new the style and helped big time. My brother had same thing except he got a letter from gas company asking him to call them. He didn't call for a long time and they called him very polite and explained the reason it was important. Then they sent a person out he was on time and did okay work. I really liked the service we got some of these posts are making me wonder I think humans run them like any other place and sometimes it's not perfect. But the service itself is not a scam. Just call the gas company and verify like I did if you're worried it might be fake. I feel like I got free maintenance to my gas supply which is probably a good thing because if it leaks that's heavier then air but can still come up into a window or worse so they should come out and do this job. I tried to get him to show me how to get free gas but he just laughed. He also said his job is really hard now a days because everyone thinks his work is a scam when it's really required maintenance. I got the feeling they are very safe he backed his van into my drive way and inspected it when he arrived and again all the way around when he was leaving.

Are you the person that gives a 1 out of 5 stars for the Sheraton hotel on Expedia when the towels "weren't big enough"? LOL sorry I had to after the comment on the hold music. -- Like I mentioned before these guys were okay for me I couldn't believe when I read your experience. I guess goes to show it can't always be perfect. I had good experience.

Definitely not a scam, but it's probably not a bad thing to check. I had the same thing and it worked out great. Lakeside's gas performed the work and did an absolutely amazing job. The guy was so helpful I promised I would put out good praise for him and his company. That's how I found this site. I imagine his job is very difficult with all of the scam door to door people, but Lakeside's Gas was NOTHING BUT PROFESSIONAL. I don't know about Enbridge as I'm with Union Gas but I imagine it's the same Lakeside's. -?- The guy went out of his way to thoroughly inspect everything for me. He found a few minor "issues" but corrected them for free without making it like a big deal. My brother had them come for the same thing in London, Ontario and he has equally great service. Thank you to the man from Lakeside Gas and the woman I talked to on the phone!! VERY GOOD WORK A+++

i got a missed call in the morning today again

Did you ever think he was contracted by the gas utility to inspect or maintain your gas service?!! I received the very same call. A gentlemen from Lakeside Gas came to our door. He explained why he was there. I asked him politely to wait for a moment while I confirmed with the gas company. After they verified who he was, He completed the required work and was on his way. He actually explained a few interesting things that helped save me time and money on my gas dryer and painted my side of the gas pipe outside even though that's not the gas companies piping. -- I guess I don't act like a gorilla when a uniformed person politely knocks at my door with information. --- But of course if something goes wrong WITH YOUR gas service I'm positive you'll be the first to call screaming at the person that was trying to call you from that number you hung up on LOL and you'll also probably claim they should have "made" you understand the importance of customer service and maintenance. Good Job Buddy!! Lol

You're the ignorant one if you think that someone should allow a random stranger into their home!  If the technician is legitimate, he should have the relevant ID!  And sending someone that late at night would also be a problem.  The poster did the right thing by rescheduling and calling the company the next day.

If the guy was legitimate, then he should have had company ID on him, as well as wearing company uniform.  The poster - who wrote in 2009 btw - was NOT being an idiot for not allowing the guy to enter.  Just because someone says they're from the electric/gas/hydro company, does not make them legitimate. However, OP should have called her gas company for confirmation they'd sent the technician.

Link line is a contractor of enbridge. it is not your meter. it belongs to enbridge. they also contract out to lakeside performance gas. dont be so ignorant.

its their job you idiots, you dont kick them out unless you want your gas shut off. unless your hiding something inside your basement beside your furnace. all the technician needs to do is assure your furnace is in working order. then possibly he will change the meter. He is probably changing it because it could be leaking costing more money for you or for a newer safer model. dont turn him away just because your ignorant to the situation. you pay for gas what do you expect, furnaces cant be very dangerous and people can die from a poorly installed or maintained furnace.

Can I suggest hydro one perhaps? Have fun with them.  You are blessed to have your home fueled by natural gas.  Thank your lucky stars, or in this case your supplier and quit being a moron.

It would seem that lakeside does not have the manpower or the coordination to get the job done on time, yesterday I had an appointment with them to turn the gas meter that they had changed back on , the time frame that their call centre gave me was for between 1 pm and 5 pm but by 5:30 pm they were a no show so I called and was told that they could not have any out until 8:00 pm and gues what that time passed and still no one showed up . I placed another call  and then another and finally well past 10:00 pm they showed up hmm their service is terrible it would seem that between the call centre and the dispatch is a gaping hole! The tech that did show up was very pleasant  and he like I could not understand why no one showed up for the first time slot I hope that this company that is working with endbridge gets their act together as the cold weather is apon us

yea serge is correct, you people dont OWN the meter. lol jesus it is government policy to have these exchanged for upgrading and quality and assurance. enbridge doesnt have the man power to perform all the work so like all the other big companies they farm them out. most of you entitled whiners should just stop being so cynical

Lakeside gas services is the worst company I have ever dealt with. Not only are the employees ignorant, they write down erroneous times is the "notes" on the account. I was told on the phone at 2:07 when I called the number listed on the the door hanger I found I was told that the meter had been changed and the gas would be restored within 4 hours. To me that means at the very latest 6:07. 6:07 came and no lakeside gas services technician had arrived. I called to ask why they hadn't made it to my house they rudely replied "your account notes state that you made an appointment between 4pm and 8pm."  I sharply disagreed with Jeanine and she rudely put me on hold. Oh and originally when I called at 6:07 I was promptly put on hold for 25 minutes with the worst hold music I've ever in my life. Needless to say to errogant technician shows up at 7:50 and doesn't say a word. Very good customer and interpersonal skills. Not. He was in and out in 4 minutes and sat outside my house in his truck slapped with an enbridge gas magnate and probably billed enbridge for 30 minutes of work. Great work lake side and great pick enbridge.

Lakeside came to my home changed my meter. I have had nothing but problems. They were supposed to turn my gas back on between 1 and four. I stayed home from work all day. I lost a days pay and on top of that no one showed up to turn the gas back on.
        They changed the time to turn on the gas no one called me. So now I am sitting here till eight o'clock tonite, no stove to cook with, no hot water and no heat.
       I have kids who are hungry and can't cook them anything nor can I give them a bath.
Way to go ENBRIDGE!
      I am now going to buy an electric water tank, electric stove and put in baseboard heaters.

Got a call from this number to call them back to get gas meter replaced. The message said teh company when I got curious and went online to check only when I found its a scam.

Got a call from this number at 9.30pm!!! A man presented himself as a Link Line Contractors rep was saying "technician running late but will arrive before 11pm". I was shocked, but asked to explain. He clarified: "your gas meter is checked by enbridge and is faulty and needs to be replaced. We are the company that will perform the replacement". I said I don't know a thing about it. He says I should have received a call from enbridge. We settled on rescheduling the visit to tomorrow. I'm calling the enbridge in the morning to confirm that this is a scam as I'm sure it is.

This number is the main line to "Lakeside Gas" - I was forced by Enbridge to get my gas meter replaced, and Lakeside gas was under contract (along with Link Line Contractors Ltd) to install and connect the new meter. The work has NOT been completed, and I have yet to speak with ANYONE at Lakeside Gas.
